SES Engines - My Experience

I thought your avatar looked familiar, you were the 2nd person to send out their motor to him, you and sabr put right on the thread we will post all of our findings. You were in the same thread I posted and in the same post numbers I posted, so the same applies to your build, he had to do it right and fast, just to rebuild his rep. If his rep is bad here he will lose alot of future business. Out of all the people who have used him in the past it looks like 3 of you had a good experience. I am glad you guys had a good experience but can any of you defend Adams experience and if you beleive the shipping thing, then Tom has the worst luck in the world because this has happened with alot of customers. I will return to this thread with a VERY Interesting, long, educational, detailed, post in a couple months.

Yes, I had a positive experience with SES, possibly the posts had something to do with it, but I am in no way defending or promoting their buisness. I was looking for a "deal", got it, and am pleased with the results.

our turn around is always around 3 weeks in the shop w/ shipping could be a month, some times we are a lot quicker for basic good core with no holes or welded crank so on. rebuilds can be quicker or slower we do call people when there is a issue that will extend turn around, we want your business plane and simple but we are not sbt and i can't blow motors out in a day if you need fast turn around there are other shops other than sbt i haven't herd of anyone beating our times.

Just to let you know a little backround on me, I am by no means a shop but We restore many seadoos a year, we currently have 6 machines we are working on, we were hoping to find a reputable business to send our motors to, to help our turnaround time. We have not made any descisions yet, If you could clear these issues up, then maybe you could sway us into using you.

I do have everything shipped to my house because of past problems with delivery at our shop. hence the google map photo is my humble house.

The qoute under this is from a member that is currently waiting for his motor and you did not call him, he has been calling you. What is the explanation for this one. Since we have you here now and he will read your responce today.

My engine has been at SES since August 2012. I called and left a message a few weeks ago asking what was taking so long. Tom quoted me 6-8 weeks originally and it has been nearly 6 months now. Tom returned my call and left a message saying it was done and he was personally taking to his shipping broker that day and I should receive it in 5-6 days. Tomorrow will be 21 days and I still have not seen my engine. I called 3 days ago to find out what was up. Tom said he would call his shipping broker to track it and call me back. I did not get a call back. Next week will be 6 months since he received my engine. If I dont see my engine by next Friday I am going to call my credit card and Paypal to pursue a refund. I should have spent another $400 bucks and gone with SBT. I just hope I can somehow get my engine back so atleast I will have a core. At this point without a core I am screwed.

So here's an update to my 717 engine I sent Tom back in early may 2012. I emailed him on Oct 1st inquiring about the status of my engine, thinking it would be back by then, and he replied saying he had it done for a while but waiting on rotary valve shaft that was back ordered. Keep in mind at that point it was october, so riding was done for the year and I was in no major hurry to get it back as I will have all winter to working on getting it back in. He said it shouldnt be too much longer and not it's December 8th and it's still not here, so it looks like I'm going on 24 weeks before getting it back. I've read on here people are getting there's back anywhere from 8 to 16 weeks. Other than the part being on back order, mine sure is taking a long time. SO still waiting, patiently, for it to return. What's interesting is when I sent my engine to him, he had put me in a 5 week turnabout spot, as he said was the last spot for that time frame. I guess that idea was shot down. I will post on here as soon as it returns and give a TOTAL time frame for my motor. I've read and heard too many good things about SES engines but there wait time was long, I'm seeing that for myself!

Here is another one, to know who wrote that just go back and read this thread. Check the first 3 pages. Adam b is one of your customers and this is something I would remember having a phone conversation about. If your turn around time is quick and you do alot of motors you wouldnt remember everyone, but if shipping isnt a big issue, then you would remember the ones that were lost or had big wait times

If you have a nice shop, post up some photos! get photos of the outside and inside. There are many people here who have never seen the inside of an engine. Post a page of 'our rebuild process' (or something like that) with a photo of the original engine (just any engine, I wouldn't do this for EVERY person!) Then a photo of it torn down. A photo of it partially assembled, then a photo of the final engine.

The more info, (accurate info) you put on your web site, the more people will engage your company.

Anytime I plan to buy anything big or spend $, the FIRST thing I do is research the company, reviews, web sites, forums, etc.

Tesla = kick butt web site = makes me feel more comfortable interacting with them (I'd love to buy a Model X)
PennDOT = god awful web site = makes me feel sick to my stomach.

this was Brandon. he received his this week. it was lost in ups our fault because we did not track it and he hadn't called us to say he hadn't got it and we though no news was good news. so we sent him another engine right away. when we found out last week from some one on this forum.

If you use UPS, why cant you give people tracking numbers? You dont need computer skills for that, you can have ups text or email the person and you dont have to do anything but give ups the customers info. Ups takes over and does it.

we have been using rbs brokers and trucking but we are trying to start to do our own shipping Ups only. shipping is tough because in order to provide free shipping we need super cheap shipping. and I know you think why use them if there is so many problems but we shipped 435 Seadoo engines in 2012 and had less than ten that were lost.

because we drop 10 off more engines off at a time they process's and ship them it is very difficult to get those tracking #s that's why we are trying to set up to do our own shipping. some were on here i saw that some one wrote they would rather pay $25 or $30 more for easier shipping and tracking info but most people wont and depending on were you live its very expensive to ship my customers that live on west cost would have to pay $90 (if they don't have an account) each way if i didn't offer free shipping.

Another question, You have worked for and have been known as MetalGod,East coast, and now SES, with all of that being said, it seems as though it is always the same complaints, Turnaround. Now here is the question, many people have said they have talked to you personally and you will tell them it is done and going in the mail that day, yet when they call back later you still have not shipped it. How does your day to day operations work? Do you have a set pick up time everyday with a shipper? Do you take them yourself? Are you the only employee or do you have employees? How many motors can you process a week? Can you post some pictures of your entire operation so we can have some piece of mind? How much product do you keep in stock? How many projects do you take on at once? These are questions that would be huge in making my descision to use your company. These things would be what i would take into consideration when deciding where to go.

I was partners in metal god bought them out. east coast I never worked there we did some machine work and we contracted there warranty work when the close there engine shop.

I would rather pay the extra that was my qoute. In reality you are not offering free shipping, it is worked into your price, so some people are actually getting over charged in shipping. I offer free shipping to and me shipping something to Ohio is alot cheaper than shipping something to California. You should maybe tracking an option. Then people would know the exact day you shipped and the actual turn around time. Most companies are now doing free return shipping, sbt, fullbore, you but you are the only one that doesnt use tracking.

no your wrong our price is what it is when we offer free shipping we eat that difference we do pay much less than average its bases on our volume take a look at everyone else's prices and compare them to ours. also we do free shipping both ways. no one else does.

The issue is 10 motors were lost. That is alot, esp if you are responsible which ultimately you are. If a customer knows its on the way he will know to email you after it doesnt show. It took forever, then you shipped it w/o the guys knowledge so when it was lost he had no idea...he thought you didnt finish it yet. Total disaster.

The goal of these questions is not to kill your business, but to let people know exactly what to expect. Us junkies have to recommend places and people who we feel are trust worthy for the sake of our reputation.

Personally I cant recommend a place that makes excuses and puts up a front. If you cant handle the customer service side of things it doesnt matter how many quality motors you build and how many make it to a customer on time. I would much rather recommend a place that costs more b/c they communicate.

I used to recommend a place locally here all the time but once he started flaking on people I know, I cant recommend him and I hardly use him myself anymore. And it wasnt typically the quality of work that was the issue, it was his communication and being caught in lies.

no news is good news?? you have got to be kidding. I want to go out of my way to make a customer happy enough to take the time to contact me personally and/or publicly. I've been selling parts longer than you have been SES...just try to find one bad thing written on the internet about me. Good luck.

Have you ever worked at Smith Marine? Can you please post up a picture of YOU so we can see the guy we will be working with and to throw out all the rumors of you being the guy from, Smith marine, East coast, Metalgod

But you are not doing it free. It is worked into your profit. Everyone is doing that now. Yes people dont pay a seperate shippine fee but you must have worked that into your price ir you would not still be in business today, shipping would kill you if not. I am not saying you rip people off with shipping. I do the same thing, also people cant complain about shipping when its free right.

yes you are right some what about our profit but when we offer free shipping it comes out of the profit shrinking the profit margin.

So you pretty much did not cleared up any real issues or answered any of the real questions that offer insight. Answering these questions isnt for an individual person but for a collective of seadoo enthustiasts.
