Is it on all rebuilds or only on premium rebuilds? Is it an extra cost or included in the price? I am just asking you because I know you talked to him. The website does not have many details on it.

It will be on all motors, he will give a ship date at the time of ordering your motor. If he does not make that ship date it will be free. There is no extra fee.

If the motor shipped there today, it would ship back April 2.

Shipped today 3/11 it will get there by the 14th....then must ship out by the 28th to be received by April 2nd.
That gives them about 13 days to do the rebuild. Two weeks seems like a short time period to do that considering it takes them 3-7 months on some motors.
Sounds like some freebies will be coming.

Holy crack monkey that sounds like a good deal.

I'll take some free rebuilds!

I hear ya, I will take a free motor all day long for being a couple days late. The problem is, I doubt that if he missed the deadline that it will only be a day or two, probably more like a week or 2.

He maintains that he has always met his ship dates other then a few here and there. Of course the ones you hear about first are the ones that dont make it on schedule. That is why he has gone to the guarantee, if he or his shipper screws up there will be no charge.

Don't get me wrong, I am not promoting or endorsing SES, nor am I denouncing SES. Just relaying information from the source.

Sorry, let me clarify. When I say "motor shipped there today" that is the time he receives it as per your tracking number. When it "ships back" that is the time it will arrive back to your door. If anyone is going this route make sure the clarify this with him and you have a good understanding.

OK, that gives him a few extra days.
If he gets it on (lets say) March 15th, he could guarantee the return shipping date to be August 15....that should be enough time.....would you think?

He tells me that he can do 2 motors a day, so the guarantee ship date will change every day. He just looks at what is in his shop and devides by 2 per day and that is how many days out he is.
The only thing I am not 100% sure on is that once it leaves his shop and is delayed cause UPS screwed up, if that qualifies for a free motor.

I doubt it, he can only control his part. He says it is a guaranteed ship date, not a guaranteed delivery to your door date. We'll see what happens. I did notice that his prices have increased somewhat.

How can a whole shop like that only do 2 a day? I would like to think you could do as many as 10/day? This isn't pay per hour work. This is pay for job. Get in, get out.

10 a day....are you kidding me?!?!

He probably has 4-6 people working for him. (Kicker, can you verify this?) So maybe two 2-3 man teams to do one motor a piece per day.
I would rather have slow but good work than fast and sloppy work.

I dont know how many people he has working for him. I doubt you can run more then 2 a day out of that little shop, but what do I know, I have never rebuilt my own. He has said from the start that he does 4-500 engines a year. Some on the forum doubt he does that many.

I guess he has a certain capacity that he can handle, i don't think that he would take extra long just to make his costumers upset. The real issue with him in the past is people were not getting their engines on the date they were promised, and I think he has addressed that with the shipping guarantee.

Kicker said they will be starting it soon but did not have a date when that will start and does not know if applies to all rebuilds. I only saw it on premium builds. I was wondering if it is just the premium engines if the regular builds would get pushed to the back shelf. As of recently though everyone had had good turn around times. Besides Adam.
How about besides me, I think I hold the record in the waiting category

Nope Adam has you beat, august of last year and he is still waiting

Not entirely true, Adam knows how long I've been waiting... Tom recieved my engine in May 2012, it arrived at my house 2/15/13, if my grammer is correct, that adds up to 9 months with 1 lost engine in shipping. Adam will be right at 7 months, if it arrives tuesday, also with 1 lost engine. therefore we have a winner!! :) Not that this subject matter is that important to anyone, including me... I just wanted my 1 minute of fame to claim since this has been such a hot and heavy topic regarding SES and their turnaround/shipping issue. Adam and I being victims to extremely long wait times for our motors. No harm no foul Jetski, just having a little fun on here now that Adam and I have our engines back home.

You win!!!!!!!

The brown van just delivered my engine. It is 50 degrees and raining outside but Summer is now in sight! I am just glad that this whole deal is over. 7 months was a long wait. I hope it runs good with no problems for a few years.

As promised, I am updating this post to share my experience with my SES rebuild thus far.

In summary, the engine (a 587) shipped out of Richmond, VA on 02/11. I received a call from Tom at SES on 03/06 to tell me that my motor was done and being shipped out. My motor arrived back on 03/08 - less than a 30 day turn around. While I had not noticed it prior to sending my motor in, it had a crack from where the PTO bearing failed. SES welded the crack at no additional charge as well as replaced the oil injector lines.

Since then the motor started fine, and has been ran for several hours using break-in procedures. While I am looking forward to running it without caution, so far it is running very well. YAY!! I am definitely a happy customer. Hopefully that will be my position 2 years from now :)

I have a 787 that is locked and head bolts that have snapped off. I'll be checking with Tom to see if he is interested in rebuilding it, too.

Just wanted to add a note to refresh the thread. I've spoken with Tom a few times, once after reading this thread, and, IMO, he is a straight-up person and cares about his customers and the service he provides. He DOES have guaranteed ship times, and quotes a 6-week turnaround to ensure he has it out on time. I called him and was leaving a message, and he called me back before I even finished, as he saw my number as a missed call. I'll be shipping him my 657X this week (if I can get it packed up) and expect to have it back early/mid January. I'll post an update when appropriate.

As an aside, in response to some of the comments I've read here about how long rebuilt engines have been running, Tom said the that this particular engine can be expected to run upwards of 200 hours, larger engines up to 300 hours. Not sure if anyone has other thoughts or actual experience with an older rebuild, but thought I'd pass this along.

Thanks,
Michael

tom received my 787rfi oct 19 and according to the tracking it will be on my doorstep dec 12 this thursday 8 weeks from the time i shipped it to the time i get it back. he's been very prompt on returning calls within a few minutes. looks like he stepped it up on the time frame.
for the off season i dont mind the wait but if it were summer sbt would be the way to go if you want it super quick.
