RESTO Rosie's Rebuild and More!:)

For the future. If you are pulling the motor leave the pipes connected, do not seperate them. Pull the motor out, then disconnect the waterbox and pull the other 2 out connected. Take your pipes to be fixed still togethor. Lay them back in the hull then put the motor back in. This way you do not have to mess with getting that back togethor. You will find that it is much easier that way.

Funny thing you mention that JSG, i was actually reading through one of your restos and saw you say that , now Im kicking myself for splitting them.

Thanks JSG,
what about the pipe to manifold? seems like every photo i see , you see people using red RTV on that connection.

Adam,
Talked myself out of the pipe..for now;)
Picked up the head just for some acceleration gains.

We do not put any there, and never had a leak. If you want to, put a light(very light) coat on the gasket and then put it togethor. I wouldnt but if it will make you feel better than do it. People also put a whole bottle of rtv on their pumps too. I hate when I get one where someone did that.

Thanks for all he advice JSG, appreciate it . As of now looking like this .
Put battery box back in hull
Put in exhaust hose and waterbox . Drop in the seperated pipes
Drop in the motor.
Connect pipes and connect pipes to motor.
motor alignment
Then drop back in rear electrical box.
carbs etc..

That order look good ? lol

Yup. i would attach the rear oil line and front oil line first. Same with the ground wire and water line on the back. It is easier to get that stuff on the motor first before you drop it in. Do not over tighten the oil lines or you will slice the lines and have a big mess.

Align the motor before you attach the pipes to it.

Premixing this motor JSG. Which water line and ground are you talking about?
Im assuming by water line you mean the cylinder drain water line.

Yes on the cylinder drain and then the ground wire from the battery to the starter. You may be premixing but you still need the rotary bath fed with oil. So the return line is a pain in the a$$ when the motor is bolted down.

The return line is attached too, you just can not see it.

Digging that purple.. on your starter it looks like you also have a nut on the backside of the bolt ?

You are supposed to have a rubber coated loop to run your fuel supply line through on the back of the bolt, that nut, with a star washer holds that clamp on.

I have a pic somewhere. I do that so I know how it should go back together and so I get the offset clamp the right way.

Looks like im not gonna be able to have the exhaust ready this weekend as it is supposed to rain all weekend :/. Thinking I may mount the engine anyway . The bottom section of the pipe will be dropped in before i put the engine in as it is already painted. Can i put the "top" section in after engine installation?

Really? i was almost certain that on most build people had put the head pipe(exhaust manifold) on before dropping the motor in. Maybe not though!

Thanks racer. Mount the head pipe though before putting the motor in i assume?

You asked about the TOP section-----Yes that can go in after the engine is in

Head pipe is the top half of the pipe

Exhaust manifold is the exhaust manifold

Ok sorry about the confusion... The tuned pipe splits into two sections.. The bottom portion is painted/cleaned ready for install. The top section will not be ready.
The exhaust manifold is painted/cleaned ready for install. Should i, or shouldn't I attach it to the motor before putting the motor in the hull?

Since we are all on the same page now lol

Lay the lower half in the hull then attach it once the engine is in there, that's the way I like to do it. I also leave the carbs off. My biggest pet peeve is chips or scratches around the seat opening.

The top section "head pipe" that has 4 welch plugs that always corrode and leak that have to be repaired can go in after engine is installed.

Lower section that connects to muffler and runs parallel with footwell will have to be placed in hull prior to engine install.

Exhaust manifold that bolts onto engine near raves can go on now prior to engine install.

Yep, if you notice on the mani there is a"ring" to lift from. I use the head pipe stud to hang a chain from them use my hoist to lower it in.
