Criss,

I have some dialithium crystals, or better yet we need to upgrade your machine with a "Mr. Fusion".

Lou

Really!I have been looking high and low for some of that. The closest I could find was Autodialithium crystals.I might come over yesterday and we can fit the Mr. Fusion today. It will save a heap on fuel costs.See you in about an hour ago.

94 seadoo engine

I have been searching for what the heck these round black things(with a red button on top) are on my 96 seadoo gtx,,657 engine.,,Sensors?,, they have a pop off top,, with a rubber nipple thing inside,,, I do not know what they are,, or what they are called,,or what their purpose is,, if I have a problem with my engine,, I need to be able to rule them out,, or in,,, if I just knew what they were there for,, they are at the top of the head,, just above the manifold.,,this ski has the engine at an angle.

Even though they are nice and round with nipple things on them, they are not breasticles. No Siree.
The things you are talking about are called RAVE valves. They change the size of the porting to the engine to give better performance at different engine speeds. They are a major part of the engine. They are a simple thing to work on and there is a huge amount of info on this site about the breasty nipply things called..RAVE valves.I hope this info was of use to you .It was brought to you from the pages of."Ask Jake and Lou"

If you have a 96GSX you have the 787 engine, especially if it has rave valves. I pretty sure the 657 engine did not have rave valves. The 787 produces about 35 more HP than the 657. Anyway if you're interested in servicing the rave valves, something that needs to be done annually here's a thread on how to do it. Order new base gaskets and "O" rings before you do this, less than $10.00 in parts.

Bennlemire,
Just to add, there is a 3rd valve that has a top that LOOK just like a RAVE valve on top of the waterbox/muffler in the left rear corner of the hull. That is the Water control valve that controls flow of water into the Tuned Pipe (that the exhaust big pipe on the left side of you engine). It has a small orifice that can get plugged with sand. You might want to take that apart and clean it out too).

re the RAVES the easiet way to clean the guillotine slides is with Easy Off oven cleaner. Do not use any cleaner on the rubber or plastic parts, just wipe them clean with a rag. And don't miss the small hole (less than 1/8" diameter) in the metal housing that gets plugged up with oil.
There is not clearance to remove the front rave as a full unit. You have to remove the black cap (careful there is a spring that will fly off underneath that controls the pressure on the valve). Then unscrew the plastic valve underneat with the rubber bellows attached (it is scresed onto the top of the actual rave). Then unbolt the housing and remove then you can lift out the rave to clean. ONE SIDE OF THE RAVES IN MARKED "TOP". TAKE NOTE WHEN YOU REMOVE THE RAVES. IT IS CRITICAL THAT THAT BE REPLACE FACING THE PROPER DIRECTION OR IT WILL HIT THE PISTON.

Jake, I tried using Easy Off oven cleaner, but my wife said it makes the cookies taste bad. To tell the truth I can hardly tell the cookies from the rave valves, they taste about the same.

are you preheating the oven to 350 before putting the Raves in?

hey that reminds me of an old Chernobol joke.
Did you hear the new recipe for Chicken Kiev?
First pre-heat the city to 2000 degrees...

expensive jetski accidents and education

yea,, I found the TINIEST chunk of rock(sand) in my water control valve( caused my overheat buzzer to drive me crazy).... I guess that's what I get for being a Nice guy,,,

My buddy who was on the ski that day says,,"yea,, I owned a couple jet skis before". so he says,,and O I trusted that he was an experienced owner..... I bet he never did any maintenance on them and sold them at the first sign of trouble since he is NOT mechanically inclined... So,,, I surely thought it was safe to let him operate one of mine,,, well,, right off the bat,, he was getting seriously close to me trying to "have some fun" so he says,,, he has NO idea about how much water is launched off the back of a jet ski when you are "having fun" trying to splash someone,, and I even had HIS 5 year old daughter in front of me on the seat.,, most of the time he was trying to have fun,, I was busy trying to protect his OWN CHILD from the massive gallons of water being thrown into our faces( he damn near hit me once too) and I didn't want her to have a bad experience about jet skis),, seems he really doesn't have a clue about the total responsibility of his actions. I only took him out a second time because he has helped me out before and I owe him a few favors.,,, so THAT's how sand ended up in my water control valve.
I tried to tell him more than once to keep clear of water less that 3 feet deep.. and now it it ME who gets to fix his learning,, pay for HIS education... I usually LOVE to learn,, and it's not so bad when I can learn something without it costing me anything,,, but I have to really be SO careful about being a nice guy and letting people use MY equipment...

I remember one time,, I was on the beach at our local river bank park in Salem Oregon, and some stranger was talking to a guy next to me,,, asking if he could use his ski for just a little bit,,, and was thinking about buying one himself but wanted to see what all the excitement was about,,,, well,, the guy next to me said,, well ok,, go ahead,, gave him a few rudimentary tips and let him go,,, he was out for a bit and began to do a bunch of stupid things(that have ruined a bunch of things for the rest of us who ARE responsible),,, that culminated in his ending his trip with a 50 mph skid right up the angles and steeply rutted boat ramp. You could hear the bottom of that ski being ground off (at least 30 feet) up the ramp,, up and down the entire beach,, it was ear wrenching... It was just like the fingernails running down a chalkboard,, and I can still hear the grinding sound to this day 14 years later. I saw a lot of people on the beach that day just CRINGE hearing that grinding......
SO the guy gets off,, with a REALLY guilty smile on his face,,leaves the ski on the ramp,, and,, being several yards away,, says,, "thanks,, that was really FUN",, and got the hell out of there.

THAT"S what people get for "loaning" out any boat of any kind...
And now,, I have found myself,, forgetting that lesson,, and having to "eat" someone else's mistakes.. History always repeats itself,,, DAMN!!!

I have had a really hard and nasty boating accident experience wen I was 17,, where a woman got a broken jaw over me letting a buddy use my boat before,,, maybe I will tell that story here,, if anyone wants to hear it,,It's a whole other story,,

I keep asking myself,,"when will I ever learn to deny my friends"?
Thank God I have the tools,,, a smart mind,, and people like you on this site to help me.,,but do you have a cure for my stupidity?,, Do you have a section for boating accidents?,, so we can all learn from each other as to what NOT to do in the future?
THANK YOU!
Ben LeMire

There is not a lot we can add to this. You covered it pretty well. All we can do is pat you on the shoulder and hand you a tissue. If he asks again.Tell him you treat your ski like you treat your wife.If he wants to ride YOUR ski you want to ride what he's got.Don't do this if she is a fugly one. We''l help you any way we can.

well, the good thing is that you got your water valve cleared before the hoses on it melted. that is a usualy occurrence with clogged water regulators. not a section for boating accidents per se but there was a thread last month about "would you let a stranger ride your ski"
