yea,, I found the TINIEST chunk of rock(sand) in my water control valve( caused my overheat buzzer to drive me crazy).... I guess that's what I get for being a Nice guy,,,
My buddy who was on the ski that day says,,"yea,, I owned a couple jet skis before". so he says,,and O I trusted that he was an experienced owner..... I bet he never did any maintenance on them and sold them at the first sign of trouble since he is NOT mechanically inclined... So,,, I surely thought it was safe to let him operate one of mine,,, well,, right off the bat,, he was getting seriously close to me trying to "have some fun" so he says,,, he has NO idea about how much water is launched off the back of a jet ski when you are "having fun" trying to splash someone,, and I even had HIS 5 year old daughter in front of me on the seat.,, most of the time he was trying to have fun,, I was busy trying to protect his OWN CHILD from the massive gallons of water being thrown into our faces( he damn near hit me once too) and I didn't want her to have a bad experience about jet skis),, seems he really doesn't have a clue about the total responsibility of his actions. I only took him out a second time because he has helped me out before and I owe him a few favors.,,, so THAT's how sand ended up in my water control valve.
I tried to tell him more than once to keep clear of water less that 3 feet deep.. and now it it ME who gets to fix his learning,, pay for HIS education... I usually LOVE to learn,, and it's not so bad when I can learn something without it costing me anything,,, but I have to really be SO careful about being a nice guy and letting people use MY equipment...
I remember one time,, I was on the beach at our local river bank park in Salem Oregon, and some stranger was talking to a guy next to me,,, asking if he could use his ski for just a little bit,,, and was thinking about buying one himself but wanted to see what all the excitement was about,,,, well,, the guy next to me said,, well ok,, go ahead,, gave him a few rudimentary tips and let him go,,, he was out for a bit and began to do a bunch of stupid things(that have ruined a bunch of things for the rest of us who ARE responsible),,, that culminated in his ending his trip with a 50 mph skid right up the angles and steeply rutted boat ramp. You could hear the bottom of that ski being ground off (at least 30 feet) up the ramp,, up and down the entire beach,, it was ear wrenching... It was just like the fingernails running down a chalkboard,, and I can still hear the grinding sound to this day 14 years later. I saw a lot of people on the beach that day just CRINGE hearing that grinding......
SO the guy gets off,, with a REALLY guilty smile on his face,,leaves the ski on the ramp,, and,, being several yards away,, says,, "thanks,, that was really FUN",, and got the hell out of there.
THAT"S what people get for "loaning" out any boat of any kind...
And now,, I have found myself,, forgetting that lesson,, and having to "eat" someone else's mistakes.. History always repeats itself,,, DAMN!!!
I have had a really hard and nasty boating accident experience wen I was 17,, where a woman got a broken jaw over me letting a buddy use my boat before,,, maybe I will tell that story here,, if anyone wants to hear it,,It's a whole other story,,
I keep asking myself,,"when will I ever learn to deny my friends"?
Thank God I have the tools,,, a smart mind,, and people like you on this site to help me.,,but do you have a cure for my stupidity?,, Do you have a section for boating accidents?,, so we can all learn from each other as to what NOT to do in the future?
THANK YOU!
