there's more to it than the ad says, the hood and its related parts on the 02 is from a 97. and the 96 has a hump seat so there might be more than meets the eye there as well.

wow.. good eye...i should have noticed that, considering I have a 97, and I used to have a 2002, the 2002 is grey bottom yellow top , not yellow/black

the 2002 should look like this.

not this

edit
after looking at those two next to each other maybe the top one is a 2001,, not sure now..

what do you guys think, i'm gonna pick this up on sat after i watertest it, it starts right up, she said she had the carbs rebuilt last year, very clean top half and engine, bottom part of hull has a lot of scratches, oddly though, the compression is 165 in front and 145 in back, gonna get it with trailer for $800, i figured for a running ski that's not bad

looks like a very nice buy, run compression again, maybe he just had some oil in there and it threw off the numbers.
I thought you were out of space !!!

yea i'm pretty much out of space, might throw the ski on some tires and put it on the floor, til i modify some of those harbor freight dolly or hopefully rearrange and get the single trailer in. 2 skiis isn't enough for 8 family members, and plus i'm kinda addicted. but i think i'm done at 3 skiis, unless i come across something that's an instant purchase and flip.

I like a 96 GSX. My son was mad at me cause I sold ours earlier in the season. Luckily I found another one cheap to fix up. The water test is key. Make sure that it snatches your arms back good when you gas it cause mine had a cavitation problem that I never beat fully. They really are great family machines with good range and great performance. If you do not find it's performance to be better than the SPI then something is wrong.

yea it's funny the spi with 2 people will beat the gsx with 1 person, maybe i have a super "prototype" spi. i saw the differences in the wear ring with this 96 gsx and mine, it's a world of difference, there is pretty much no gap in the 96.

Well I was low on money but still managed to clean up an old Polaris 4 wheeler(plus a $200 check) and trade it today for Seadoo boat #4. It's a 96 Challenger and really clean other than ripped seats. It has a single 787 and I like that over the twin 717's. I might keep this one a minute and enjoy with the family. His dad bought it a silver SBT engine and all new cables. It's a GA boat that has never seen the salt.

Hope you had a good day also Nam.

boat looks to be in good shape!

thanks matt, I spent most of the day cleaning the garage AGAIN, put the double trailer in diagonally, i'm pretty sure I'll be able to fit the single trailer in also :)

spim, are you still grabbing that 98 GSXL for tomorrow?

I know for a fact you can put a double and a single roadmaster plus a 2010 xterra In a 2-car garage and still have space to open the door to get in/out

I'm the proud owner of this 96 gsx. I went and saw it a couple days ago, and the owner said it revved fine, I don't recall, because she was so adamant about only running it with water. She texted me right before I got there and said they were checking to see if there was enough gas, and when they revved it, it would cut off. It still idles fine and stays on, but once you give it gas, it cuts off. She said the carbs were rebuilt last year, but it still has the gray tempo lines. I believe it could be the carbs, and el toro confirmed that could be suspicious, what do you guys think? And thanks el toro for your advice!

The reving problem is coming from a bad rectifier in your grey box. To confirm this pull the red wire and see if it allows the engine to rev up all the way. I don't like the grey lines still on it though so a carb cleaning would be a great idea too. Did this problem further discount the price for you? Looks good from the pics. It's the best all-round model imo. Congrats on the addition. Here is a reminder pic of the on I will be bringing back

thanks for the info Matt, i'll def do that before the carb cleaning, cause honestly, i know how to get a carb off, and replace the diaphragms, but pretty clueless with the lil needles and settings. Yea, it was supposed to be 800 with trailer, after this problem, they wanted 700, and i got them down to 650.

also where is the timing info stored on the ski, i'm assuming the mpem and not the gauges right? cause hopefully they haven't been switched or anything, but there is only 43 hrs on my 96 and 73 hrs on my 97

It's SOOOOOOOOO clean Nam! I think the low hours are authentic. You deserve the score too for being a compulsive everyday shopper (takes one to know one). LouDoo is the guy to hit up on the 96GSX stuff. He's got his looking and performing just right.

it's not authentic clean though, she recovered the seat, and the hood and handlebar covers were painted, not sure why they did that, but hey, it looks good.

oh man, as far as everyday shopper, i check multiple cities, multiple times, everyday, i even have to search "seadoo" "sea doo" "seadoos" sea doos" and what kills me is that "sea do" even yields results :(

So does Seedoo, jetski, jet ski, wave, waverunner, pwc, jet, ect.

I was running dry, I used jet twice.

haha, there was even that 96 xp with the hispanic woman on it, and i think the only description was "jet sky for sale 650"

I actually don't have a gray box, but I think this black box is it, could you please point me in the direction of which red wire to remove? thanks

No no that is your "rear electrical box. Open the front trunk(nice that it locks upward on the GSX) pull the storage bin out and it is there on your left from the rider's position. You can pull the rubber strap and un-click the box from it's holder and then get it split apart. Your regulator is a square shaped component with 4 wire coming out of it(three yellow and one red). Pull the red apart(I use two pair of small needle nose) and see if it will release the engine to rev. This is only a quick test because you will be throwing too many volts into your system when revved up with the regulator unhooked.
