Well a little more progress today....
Even while nursing some broken ribs. Though a little help from Captain Morgan didn't hurt.
All parts cleaned, threads chased and tagged and bagged.

Rotary shaft rebuilt with OEM parts
155.jpg

And everything boxed up for storage.
156.jpg

So the window for this project might have closed for this year as my parts supplier is lagging and I have to get my wife's 51' Ford pickup going this summer.
157.jpg

Sad times.

If only it was that easy I would. It was my wife's quick, cheap rat rod. But 3 years later you can see the progress. So this summer my goal is to get it running and done. It's a 51' Ford 5 star deluxe F1.

My old man has a 49 Ford Dump Truck sitting at his place

Well no actual progress but big brown boxes have started to arrive

293.jpg

On top of that I actually got the 96' XP out for its second tank of break in fuel. Only took two years.

So I finally got a little time and started building the engine.
380.jpg
The OEM cranks look great as usual.
I like to use 1184 over 1211 since it is semi drying and doesn't set up as fast. It also is what all the Japanese use and all dirt bike cases too. I apply a thin coat to each half with these little wooden sticks, although I can't remember where I got them but I think they are a medical supply and work amazing
381.jpg

Bottoms up
382.jpg

Cylinders on with OEM pistons and bored by Group K.
383.jpg
384.jpg

Now for the pressure test....
385.jpg
. Ten minutes at 9 psi and not a single psi drop. Nice!
386.jpg
now some masking and a fresh coat of paint tomorrow
387.jpg

Okay, a little more progress over the long weekend.
21.jpg

Got the 720 done and two 787's rebuilt and painted.
Starting to get all the hoses fittings and parts back in the bare hull
22.jpg

And tried to put the fresh engine in only to find the bedplate is bent
23.jpg

So another call to good old Minnetonka4me and I am once again waiting on parts.

May i ask a dumb question.
Why bother with 787 motors and not go for something with 957 motor ?
I see people building racing seadoos with 787 motors instead of 957 i dont understand it

The 787 are for something else the 717 is going in the hx

That is correct. The 787's are for two 97' GSX's that I got for free. They got new top ends and balancers rebuilt and are going to be sold.

The HX I just want to keep stock.

The 787's are much more reliable and in the correct hull are not any worse than a 951 and in a GSX hull the 787 is actually more fun and handles better than the 951 in my opinion and uses less fuel.

But on the other hand I do love my 2001 XP with the 951.

Nice write up! New to the forum, first post. I'll add my profile/greeting in the users section. Literally just picked up an 1997 HX for free, hasn't been used since 2008, been sitting in covered storage. Your thread is going to help me with mine, nice detailed pics. I'll be creating a thread on mine in the next couple of days.

Very nice and welcome Kingdom.
The 1997 is a little nicer as they have a better muffler, came with a fuel gauge and better graphics in my opinion otherwise it is the same as mine.

I will be looking for your thread.

Had a HX 1995 years ago and these things are a blast! Good luck with the resto. With only 250 invested, you have some wiggle room to invest some money in a good resto and you should have a solid ski in the end.

Well a little closer.
So with the new bedplate the engine was about a 1/4" too low with no shims so the only option was to pull the pump shoe and shim it to bring the driveshaft up to the engine
10.jpg
11.jpg

As you can see it took a lot of shims
12.jpg

But once it was all back together the alignment tool slides into the PTO perfectly with no shims on the engine.

Hopefully today I can make some more progress but we are supposed to get record heat here of 98 degrees. That's hot for us since no homes have AC.

And more progress yesterday. All hoses and electrical back together and had to make a new battery cable.

Only thing left is the carbs.
It was 106 here yesterday, broke a record from 1939. I don't know how you guys survive on the east coast.

I am not sure what part you are asking about. Mine is 100% stock.

Thanks Racerxxx.

I was talking about the knee pad/seat cover. I seen on eBay a set that was a one piece cover. I don't know what u did with urs. That look great that's why I was asking so I could get something like that

I have never seen a 1 piece seat for the HX unless it was one of the special Carbon Fiber ones. Mine is all stock with the hard to find stock knee pads. It is a bunch of pieces attached to an aluminum plate that bolts to the seat. They are getting extremely hard to find in good shape.
