How about the crank shaft gear and counterbalance shaft gear. If they contact, is there a space for oil to pass?

Yes, the only purpose of the CB cavity oil is to provide lube for these two gears. As long as these gears are running in an oil bath, they remain happy. The bearings at each end of the CB shaft can fail eventually, so feel the housing there at the bearing to see if it's getting hot from friction.

Right. Is this why this counterbalance shaft oil got consumed, because of the oil is being sipped by the other gear?

I put 10ml high performance gear oil (doesn't say synthetic on the label) in, hand tighten the screw, and cranked the motor without spark plugs for 30 seconds, and sucked 10ml out.
Then put 10 more gear oil back in. By hand turning the fly wheel, I managed to get 4 for ml into the hole. So the gears should be happy. Good news is the old oil was enough and no signs of water.

I guess in this case the CB cavity must be filled with oil before assembling the case halves, thus it cannot be more than 1/2 filled but something less than 1/2.

I think after the final assembly is OK. When the cylinder is in vertical position, the plug is above the half level. the oil will flow into the chamber and find its ways by gravity.

And the oil level inspection is only to check if it is too low, in which case you can only add 10 to 12ml anyway, hoping more oil is around other cavities or surfaces. So mix cannot be avoided. The old oil and the new gear oil are mixed in a cup too. I will report the condition after a few hours.

Actually it is very easy to access and inspect the level. Most of my time was spent fighting with the "40"ml number. After checked the drawing I gave up, because you cannot fight with Newton's Law.

So in the inspection, just suck the old oil out as much as you can (you cannot get more than 15ml out). and put 12ml back in and tighten the plug.
The tool will help is a 6mm allen key with 12" extension.
And a syringe with a 1/8 OD tube about 4" long. I used heat shrink. Wiggle the tube a little and get at least 4" into the hole.

I think the oil can leak out of the CB cavity after the crankshaft seals are worn from many hours. And yes, it's possible for water to enter the CB cavity if the crankcase has water inside and the crankshaft seals are worn, but this is very unlikely, I think.

But I think if the CB cavity was only partially filled at the factory slow seepage past the crankshaft seals will eventually allow the gears to run dry and cause damage, so this oil should be checked occasionally, maybe every 50~100 hours is my guess.

I think in your case the previous owner must've filled your CB cavity with oil. In my case the motor had never been serviced by anyone (only winterized) thus the remaining factory oil was still inside the CB cavity but I couldn't see or remove any, so I added the gear oil and now I know there is oil to provide lubrication. I didn't fill it completely, just enough so I could see the top of the oil.

I didn't suck it out or try to change it, I only added the mercruiser HP gear oil (also it doesn't mention what the oil base is if synthetic or not, it's a proprietary blend!) I know the Mercruiser HP gear oil is good oil, and those are gears so I used gear oil, LOL

951-DI specifies gear oil, I think b/c it runs a little hotter due to the crankcase isn't cooled by fuel evaporation from direct injection strategy, our carb motor crankcase is cooled partially by the fuel evaporation absorbing heat as the air/fuel mixture travels through the crankcase.

Or maybe the DI specifies gear oil b/c BRP found the gear wear was too rapid and for the new engine they changed the CB oil specification? I don't know the real answer.

The good news is, no boats were harmed during the making of this thread.

Seems like the PO has done a fair bit of work on this boat. :-D

He was trying to remove the exhaust pipe?

Also feel really lucky that I didn't break the manifold with one broken bracket and one without screws. What was holding it then, only the manifold? Anything bolted to the hull? Scary :-D

Put the "boots" on. I have been running without them.

Did I put them in the right way?

Oh no, my expansion pipe support bracket is COMPLETELY MISSING!!! :(

Looks like seadoo over designed this :-D
When I ordered my bracket, I ordered the wrong one, which is the one you are missing. It is sitting on the shelf now. If I am in the states, I would send it to you :-)

Yes, I think your boat can pull that raft quite well. I think I would use the rear toe eye if your bar is damaged. For the bar, once you repair it just raise it a small amount to clear the hatch and avoid damage, you'll have to be more careful not to snag the rope and make sure it's not snagged on the rear hatch before taking off and making ...

Had as great day at Lake Erie. Ski post worked great. The tube worked great. I had my wife and two kids on the tube, I was driving. No problem, fast enough for them to be jumping on the tube :-)
Then had two guys on the tube. Boat was cutting though wakes from other boats. One guy eventually got bumped into the lake LOL.

All good.

A little surprise at the beginning, actually a big one: the weed!

On our way out, I saw two guys riding a jet ski stopped and one guy jumped into water and doing something underneath the boat. Didn't know why.

Then when we were in the open, I couldn't get the boat on the plane! The water came out of the pump didn't form a nice sharp stream. I couldn't believe the boat got cavitation in a sudden. I tried a few times and opened the engine hood, the carbon ring is nice and tight. I pushed it, the water was pouring in! (Now I believe the "sinking" stories). All good. Wife suggested pull the boat back up and take a look. Of course I agreed, but with a but. I said one more try then we take a look. I jumped into the water. Water was surprisely warm! I reached the grill, a LOT of weeds. A lot! Cleaned all of them, couldn't do anything inside the pump.
After that, then All good.

Thanks for the offer except I already bought one including bolts and washers after I returned home, LOL, cannot stand any missing pieces. Nice day here too, water was 88*F(31*C) but too much loud music so I got angry.

Good to hear your family had an enjoyable day on Erie using the boat, very nice! :)

My guess is the PO was doing some maintenance on the boat after season last year (He play ATVs, bikes this type of things). But his wife didn't want to keep the boat in the single garage anymore because she was pregnant and need space in the garage.

I have never been to loud area. Kids love tubing. They said more fun on the tube than on the boat. That's probably true. They get bored after 5 minutes of cruising around. Only the very first time when the boat got on the plane, they were very very excited. That's it. :-D

Boat is a good storage for camping trip too. I put the boat coat on. With the bimini in the back, you cannot cover the back totally, so I used a long strap to tie up the back. If I can get a used same color boat cover, I could custom make one to fit the bimini. Or I will check if I can do a small modification to the bimini mounting to have an easier way to remove and install.

One thing I noticed is the gas consumption jumped from 12.5L/100KM to 18L/100KM on high way.

There are still some weeds in the pump, I need to get a plumber tool to get them out of there.

Another interesting one: I met a family with a double engine seadoo boat at the boat ramp. He told me that he bought a mask especially for this weed issue, so that he can dive underneath the boat to check :-D

"his wife didn't want to keep the boat in the single garage anymore because she was pregnant and need space in the garage."

I know who's fault THAT WAS!

"I have never been to loud area."

I call it the redneck yacht club.

Absolutely, this is correct!

Do you have an OBDII scanner to measure automatic transmission fluid temperature? I guess if over 104*C you may consider an auxiliary transmission cooler for many long trips while towing.

My jeep can show the OBDII codes on the dash board with start key going back and forth. Not sure is it only show error codes when there is a problem or can show the normal temperature.
I need to check the code list

Edit: checked the error code on the Jeep. It displayed ----- for a while and displayed "done". So there is no error code so far. :-)

Sensor feedback values will be found in the parameter identification list (PID list) if the system can display it, all of the PCM I/O devices have an PID address, including the AC compressor high side gas pressure is available if you have the means to access it.

If your Jeep system will not report the temp, you can use an iphone or Android OBDII app (like Torque Pro open source ~$5.00) to access the info or if you can write in C++ or some language (even hyperterminal AT commands using an ELM327 interface) maybe you can ask the PCM for any kind of info?

Here's an example of the data available in real time:

OBD2 Bluetooth dongle probably is a good investment.

Yes, if you can pair your iphone. I hear it's not easy to pair the iphone if it's locked but I don't have one so not sure. Does the iphone have an USB port? If yes, then the ELM327 is also available in USB type.

Just ordered a ELM327 WIFI. It will creat a hotspot for iphone to connect. There are a few iOS apps available. I will check them out after I received the part.

The hardware is $13.30.

Sometimes the apps do suck concerning a limited list of PID's but a few of the apps allow you to configure your user PID list so basically the app just requests the PID you specify in addition to the provided list..

So you need an app that allows the user to configure and specify the PID if you want to expand on the PID's provided.

Hull trim openning

One more thing I noticed a couple of times is the trim around the boat popped out.

a segment of the blue trim opened a couple times. I just pushed it back and it snapped back in nicely.
Is it something I need to be concerned? Is the top hull and bottom hull going to split if the trim is damaged?
