Yesterday I saw the highest speedo reading 38mph with the whole family on board.
I think 518 did its job with the new cone.

I checked the compression today before fogging. 129/130PSI cold start. Then I ran it for 20 seconds. Then checked the compression again, now the head is warm, I got 125/125PSI.

Then I fogged the engine.

The compression on this boat after the rebuild is always like that and run very well. Never seen the magic "135" :-D.

Tested the 3000RPM issue again yesterday. More info: it can run at 3000RPM for 20 minutes or more no problem very stable. It only happens, not always, when increase the speed from idle into 3000 range. And when speed drops, it dropped to idle speed, but I didn't wait long enough to see what happens next. I just pull the throttle back and fast forward to fix it.

I will take the carb off in the winter to take a closer look because this was not there before the carb rebuild.

Is it something to do with the high speed screws? They were 1/4 open before, and I totally closed them after the rebuild.

it would be tempting to open those high side adjusters back 1/4 turn and see if it cleans up if you can run the boat one more time before putting it to bed for the winter.

I actually measured 137psi on mine the first time the day I bought it, that was immediately after running 20~30 seconds first. Oil was TCW3 I'm sure and the numbers are still permanent sharpie marker on the head where I wrote them. Haven't seen those numbers since.

Kind of strange that warm head gives 5psi less. Is warm air softer than cold air? LOL

Maybe we can have one more record high warm day :-)
I will adjust them and get ready for that day.

Based on the hesitation seems to be only occasional this makes me think you may have an air leak in your fuel line, most likely at the fuel/water separator cup.

I would take the fuel line lose from the carb, turn the fuel valve to off position, and pressurize the fuel line with no more than 3psi and see if air leaks from around the o-ring of the F/W separator cup.
