Also, I Took everything apart and cleaned it and could not get the bubbles to stop coming when I pressurized it. At first before I took it apart I swear the bubbles were coming from around the screw and/or retaining plate that holds seat down but then after cleaning it, it looked like it was bubbling from the seat area. Now I’m scared it will do the same after my rebuild kit comes in. It was rusty just like the one in your thread. That machine has an Uxbridge small engine racing sticker on it, even though the spring and probably needle and seat were not correct everything else pointed to it having genuine Mikuni parts in it. Is it possible that it had some after market parts on it before and the spring, needle and seat were changed to accommodate the after market parts? Just asking, I have no idea what I’m even talking about
Nope, looks normal and stock, just a leaking needle and seat and or seat o-ring

Just looking around on amazon for a thread chasing set. Are the cylinder cover bolts M8 or M10? Happen to know the pitch of the thread? I will look tomorrow through the manual and see what it says. Would they be a 1.75 pitch?

I looked up understanding metric threads. It’s my understanding that if a thread pitch isn’t specified it’s understood to be a course thread (1.75 pitch). Looked in the parts manual and it describes the bolts as M8x70 so 8 diameter and 70mm length. Looking at a cheap kit on amazon for 39.99 includes M6-1.00, M8-1.25 M10 1.5 and 1.25, M12-1.25, M12-1.50, and M12-1.75. I don’t think that M8-1.25 chaser would work would it?

Searched seadoo forum the M8’s are a 1.25 pitch so I’m going to pick up that cheap set for 39.95. Be nice to get a good set but I think I’ve spent around 700.00 on this HX so far and yesterday blew a belt on my Yamaha Nytro ( another 140.00) so better keep it cheap.

Parts from OSD cane in today, ordered on March 2nd. I was very impressed with the speed of the delivery from them. Just waiting on the parts from Seadoo warehouse and then find the time. Probably be able to work on it a couple of hours here and there at night. Also ordered a cheap thread chasing set.

Darn, I forgot about gel coat, there is a spot on the hull that should be repaired. As much as I would just like to get it fixed and try it out, now is the time while the engine is out. Any suggestions on where to get the yellow gel coat? Any good threads on doing the gel coat repair, I remember reading about the in the past but it’s been so long. Also what is the procedure for bringing the gel coat back to life? I’ve had pretty good luck with just running compound but can I do a better job with wet sanding?what would I start and finish with? 1000 and 2000 grit? I remember seeing in your HX restoration thread about taking the hood off to flip it upside down. I have it in the shop on t he trailer now. I was thinking I could just lay a couple of 2x4’s perpendicular to the bunks to flip it onto?

From what I see online my best bet and only one I see for Color matches for seadoo is gelcoat international. I only see the 1 white which is super white and super yellow looks like the proper yellow for the hull. I hate to put to much into this machine till I know for sure what it needs to run proper but again now is the time while the engine is out. And really the gelcoat May be expensive enough but I should have lots left over for many more repairs. I bet I won’t end up costing more than 100.00 in gelcoat, sand paper, rubbing compound, polish and wax plus a few little odds and ends like brushes, tape, Mylar and acetone. Plus I find anything done cosmetically very rewarding. This machine is missing a few body pieces and I read somewhere that without the piece that fits over the seat shock it will end up at the bottom of the river, is it true this piece is important at keeping water out?

It's never going to be perfect. I would just get the EverCoat Gelcoat patch kit and do the best you can.

I’m thinking of going with the match from gelcoat international mainly because the price goes down significantly with larger quantities. 101.00 for a quart (32oz.) and 44.95 for 2oz. I know it won’t be perfect but I’m hoping I can get it closer with the match from gelcoat international. I have a 95 XP that I’m sure will need some repairs too. I’m going to find out what kind of shelf life for the gelcoat first. Don’t mind spending and having it, but not if it’s just going to be garbage after sitting

DF872A4E-7F27-4901-AC87-073A1F34228C.jpegNot 100 percent sure how to get the steering cable out, I read through the manual and it said to remove the 2 nuts in the picture, then remove the steering cable pin from the steering lever, remove the grommet that the cable goes through on the hood and slide it all out. I’m not looking at it this very secondbut what is going to come out looks fairly bulky. I was wondering if there was a way to separate the cable. If I’m missing something let me know please otherwise I may be able to get it after taking a better look

Take the two 10mm bolts out and you will be left with the cable and adjusting nut.

CDC156C3-721E-485F-8213-3F2197F477F4.jpegThe hood is off, not a hard job, would have been even easier without the tachometer and info gauge but I’m a worrier and always doubt myself until I’ve done it. Actually until it’s back together.

I was going to take 2 2x4’s, wrap them in foam and lay them across the bunks of the trailer. The one would be resting on the seat. You see any issues with that? I’m a little worried that the 2x4 may leave a permanent impression in the seat.I do plan to replace the vinyl once I find out if it runs.

I would just remove the seat. It will be easier to polish the hull.
WSM makes new shock boots if yours is bad because it ill let in a ton of water.

Also your HX had some dealer installed items as the DESS, Tach and fuel gauge were not installed from the factory.

Ok, thanks. I’m just at canadian tire now to get sandpaper, rubbing compound polish and wax. Any recommendations? I may end up
Ordering online. Just wasting some time. I will get the sandpaper here though. What grits of wet paper would you use? I was thinking of starting with 1000 and finish with maybe 2000? But would like to know what steps you do

If it is really bad I start with 600-800. Then 1000 and 2000.
For polish I like the Meguair's Marine products as they have more oils and lubricants for the old dry gelcoat compared to the automotive products.

I’m looking at Meguires right now in marine section. For some reason the 3M cleaner and wax is on clearance for 13.93 and 3M liquid wax is on clearance for 11.93. Regular 29.99. They are both for marine use. Would they be ok, or would the Meguires be better?
