Its too bad on that trailer...the look was super bad asz! Triton started making them about the same time 93ish. I had a first generation triton I picked up with some skis a few years ago...it had super goofy tie down strap style winches on the front.

What I really dont like on Tritons is the fixed axle position. My tongue weight sucks...but I'd rather have it heavy than having my skis past the back of the trailer.

This is a second gen from 95 when they went to regular winches, but stupid really bendable bump stop brackets...

I got tired of hearing my gf complain about the spx being unstable and it being hard to get back on so I started looking for a 96-97 GTX. This one popped up on craigslist 2 hours away for a smoking deal so I jumped on it! Like I felt bad, but hey it isn't my fault ole dude didn't read up before he figured the price. Apparently the guy that had it bought some commercial property from a buddy of his and this and some other stuff was on it. He didn't know much about it other than his buddy had it rebuilt not long ago by a mechanic friend. I get up there, pop the seat, and it has a fresh looking sbt motor with 165 in both holes. Should be about on the money after running it. I'm gonna call sbt tomorrow and see when it was sold. Hopefully it still has a warranty! :P Just order Mikuni kits and all that stuff to give it the used seadoo treatment. Looks like i'll be selling my spx when it warms up. Before I could get out of the driveway the dude was like man I think there is some stuff in here that goes with it. He ran inside and brought out a pair of ski's, a huge 3 man tube, a cover, and said take it. SCORE!!!

Tonka i'll be hollering at you soon with a parts list for it once I figure out what all it needs.

Nice!!! I bet you can ask SBT to check the invoice and see if they bought carb kits at the same time. Does it still have grey lines?

Technically yes....its a X-4 hull. Its a single carbed 720 with no trim.

We refer to the X-4 as a 787 motored one...easier than typing 95xp800, 96 XP, 97-99 SPX

I disagree, I've owned a 95XP 720, a 96XP and currently a 95XP 800 and I consider all of them X4 hulls. A 97SP is essentially the same as the 95XP 720, the single carb. puts out the same HP (85).

Things are a little slow and I'm trying to get a discussion started.

:confused::confused:I think we need to get on the same page with this, cause it drives me nuts in many posts. I don't quite understand all the differences between these X4's, 4Tecs etc. Everytime I think I got it right there is another post that is conflicting.

Are these names from the bombardier office or is it made up slang from the seadoo community.

When I had my 95XP 720, I really loved that ski, at the time I thought it was quick enough, it pulled real smooth, the 96XP is like a crotch rocket. I thought and still do think the 95XP is the perfect ski, low maintenance, trouble free smooth power I was perfectly satisfied until I rode the 96XP.

I would say the 95XP 720 is like the Rally Sport, and the 96XP is the Super Sport.

Damn I think I'm talking myself into getting another 95XP 720.

X4-L 787 powered

X4-U 720 powered

X4-OL 951 powered

L= Lay down

U= Upright

OL= Opposite Lay down

Seems like to much work, but fun none the less.

The GSX hull never got a name...neither did the first gen hulls. LOL pretty much X-4 or parabolic (XPL)

Seadoo came up with the X-4 name...it was the code name for the racers b/c they had it in their hands in 93-94. They actually had a 657 mod in the first one...then the 720 in 94 and late races in 94 the 787 was introduced.

Matt can maybe confirm...Bill O has explained it a few times and I still cant keep it all straight.

Thanks for the info! I found one for $500. I didn't know they made sp that year and was curious

Is that SP red and white? That's what I call the hidden X4. I think it would be most closely related to the 96SPX because of the lack of the 95 only pump extension. The difference being the single carb and probably one less gauge. Nothing wrong with a 720 powered X4. I have a couple 717 based performance engines I'm gonna put cool projects together with in my future.

I think every X4 is an X4. Quickly distinguished by weather or not you can replace the trim tabs. After that its just a matter of how it's currently powered. I just watched my 951 96XP drive off on a double trailer behind Gary13's car. From here I'm taking on the job of getting the most out of the smaller engines.

I'm calling the Rossier piped XP800 the Wife's ski and my avatar ski will be my rec rider now. I'm gonna put in the big 96 GTI "T" tank for range and back off the compression, pipe choice and timing to be able to run pump gas.

Wtf u sold the 951xp???? The Neptune ski a rec rider??? Lol can't wait to see the superstock in action. U know how I feel every ski is a rec ski you just race it on the side. We aren't factory backed riders we have no sponsors we are our own race crew.

Matt, Thanks for the great deal on the 951Xp thumper! I am hoping with a little tweaking I will be able to keep up with my Wife's RXT!

BTW we discussed swapping the home made sponsons for the beach houses on my other 96, do you think switching the R&D trim tabs from the 787 to the 951 would be a good idea?

Thanks again!

Honestly I'm seeing those slightly extended black ones on the pro built racers. That pair had the middle holes pulled through for some reason but they should stay put with "the Right Stuff" from Permatex that I used. If you keep those then I would silicone the gaps so it's smooth underneath. I have stock sponsons that you could use for your for sale model.

remember, you have to pull the engine to do that...
also, plan your fuel filler line routing carefully... i had some issues with that.... and the dam 2" fuel filler line was like $15 a foot, the price really pissed me off...

Yeah I've saved every fuel filler hose from all the dead Doo's I salvaged so hopefully it will pay off. I've got the motor just laying in there unattached and I'm debating on what pipe. I pressure tested all my Neptune pipes today(7) and only three were good. One of them seems to only have a small hole so I'm going to try and get it welded tomorrow. If that fixes it then I will use it in the rec ski but if not then I'm going to try Coffman's rec pipe.

yeah I know, every place I check was within 50 cents a foot of each other.
I had to buy a new filler hose for my boat last year. I needed about 6 feet of it. Some places would only sell it in the 10 ft section that it came in, but I found one nearby that would cut it down to what I needed....& what a PITA to bend when you can't reach under the floor very well.

ya that might work, and you can (well you shouldn't but you can) use pvc couplers to join the fuel filler hoses, if you want pic's of how I set up mine or how chuck set his up, i'll be glad to take a few, but its really just simple physics, the main issue is to try and route it so its steadily going down to the fitting on the tank, which is in a terrible spot :( try to avoid any spot that makes the fuel run uphill, that way when your filling up at the station you don't have to go agonizingly slow because it will back up on you and drive you a little nutso... the triton hose works nicely but its pretty stiff and hard to bend just right..
