The X4 Thread

Hello All,

Just wanted to take a little time to introduce myself... I've been lurking in the shadows for quite a while now. I wanted to thank Dr. Honda, Seadoosnipe, Minnetonka4me, etc. for all the extremely helpful info they have made available on this forum. Here’s a few pics of my X4 that I picked up two years ago. Lots of cosmetic work but the engine is stock. I swapped the stock prop for a Solas XO & added a R&D nozzle.

Welcome. Yes I do Seadoo regularly

I like all the gauges and the graphics choices.....especially the hood paint with the Bombardier strip.

Do you tow it with the Mazda 3??? I have a Mazda 3 and tow mine with it lol...

Yes I do. Although, according to Mazda towing anything with a Mazda 3 is "Not Recommended". I pretty much have to submerge the rear end to launch the ski. Had some nice size wake come in while launching one time. Trunk was flooded.

Give it a couple more years and see how that trans is treating you lol, just because you can doesnt mean you should, I.E fat chicks and spandex, Just messing with you manolocross, i see people pulling pwc's with all types of cars, the trailer and seadoo are relatively light, not much more than sticking 4 full grown men in the car and its not like you tow with it everyday. I wouldnt go crazy and pull a double trailer with gtx's or pull a boat.

Nice! How did you do the vinyl with the hump seat like that? glue?

That's how the seat was when I bought it off fleabay.

I was going to say.. that's just a '95 sport seat painted black. I have one on my '96. I like it much better than the regular seat.

I like the extra gauges. I've thought about moving my multi-gauge, and adding a tach up top.

Great ski, i took like the gauges, debating putting a 95xp factory tach on my xp, which wire did you tap into on the mpem? With the xo and the r&D nozzle (im assuming 85/88) what top rpm do you get? I was thinking of getting an xo to add on my R&D but wasn't sure about speed loss. I Know stock nozzle and xo is great but with the reduction nozzle i don't know without engine mods.

Theres vinyl paint that will stretch w/o peeling?

I'd bet that seat has been recovered, the grain of the vinyl doesn't look the same as the hump seat I just bought, not the same as my tattered yellow seat either. Perhaps it was done at a professional upholstery shop that used automotive grade(IE, not the 3M stuff from a can) spray adhesive. If you zoom in on it you can see a little better. SEM does make some amazing vinyl paints though.

Anyway, it's a clean looking ski and I also like the gauges!

I like the nozzle, do you have to constantly polish it, my fiance's brother polished his on his 95 xp and it oxidized really quickly, after the first time out it look grey.

On the x4 thread, last night I got half way through this thread, I started at the beginning.

Great choice Lou on not trading your 96xp for the 96 spx.

Hey nice ski and that's pretty nifty what you did puting it on the trailer backwards like that I'm assuming that's because there is no reverse and so you can drive it right off I would have never thought of doing that :hurray:

For those running bilge pumps do you run a manual or automatic? My buddy I ride with bought a houseboat so there are going to be some nights where the skis will be tied to the boat floating and i'm just kinda scared i'll wake up one mourning after a long night of partying with a ski floating upside down!! I guess for that situation you would for sure need an automatic. If you run a automatic how long can you leave it on before it runs your battery down? Our other thought was to have a pump for each ski loose on the houseboat and if we stay out all night just place a pump in each ski. Then make a wiring harness with gator clips to hook to one of the houseboat batteries that the generator keeps charged. Thoughts or suggestions? No a jetski lift is not a option on the ghetto fabulous 78 River Queen! :D You know how we roll here in KY

Get the automatic rule pump, then just splice into the pink wire that runs into your hood. You may have to keep your key on the machine over night though, im not sure on that, when my carbon seal was leaking I would leave the jetski moored and left the key on it, when the float was triggered on the pump it would automaticly turn on an kick out the water, I never left it out there more than a 5 hours but it would start right up without problems, if you are worried about the battery you could keep an extra battery on the boat. The 98 spx we are redoing right now has a rule pump too but this one has a switch.

Cool sounds like the battery "should" handle the pump overnight. If not there is a charger besides the master charger on the boat and a offline / backup battery on the boat I could always jump from. Where is the best place to get one of those trick bilge pump through hull fittings?

EDIT: Just looked at the specs and the bilge pump only uses .5 amps in a 24 hour period. Should be no problem for my 20ah agm battery.

Just thought I post a pic of my previous two XP's, I finally found one. I had them on an aluminum Raven's double place trailer. The trailer was completely engine turned aluminum--this trailer was probably the first aluminum trailer out, well before Triton I would venture to guess. They only made them for three years from 95-97 then they got out of the PWC trailer business. They could make a heck of an aluminum trailer for big rigs but the PWC trailer was prone to cracking and fracturing. Mine actually suffered from the stress cracks. If you look under the work box you'll see a large piece of box tubing that was 1-1/2" X 6 and lateraled back, then I removed the torsion axle and boxed the frame with 3/8" aluminum plate to re-support the torsion axle. The trailer also had flush mount lights and a super long tongue it was a true dream to trailer with. This set-up looked like a million bucks rolling down the street and always got compliments. Sorry about the pic quality, it's a scanned pic as this was before digital cameras (the pic is like 1997 or 1998).

If anyone know's of a Ravens two place trailer like the one pictured, PLEASE let me know, broken or not. It would be cool to have my XP and HX on one of these trailers. There was one a while back in Ohio with a Yahamahauler on it but I never called on it.

Here's what they really could make!
