I'm making a stand against 15+ year old fuel selectors. I have seen two dead engines this year due to them and neither was a blockage issue. One drew in air and the other would pass between ON and RES. They are only $23 shipped with a new knob so why take your chances?

I was bypassing them and just running RES to filter bowl to carbs. That was until Brock ran out of gas that night!

Forgot to mention that... unless the ski has never been run on ethanol fuel, every one i've seen that hasn't been run with ethanol fuels have been perfectly clean. Still for 23 bucks be safe rather then sorry...

On a second note, i used my heat gun to change my rear black corner plastic on my 96 xp from gray to the orig black, then used the heat gun to turn my faded yellow hood back to the orig yellow, worked great!!!

I use ebay a lot but I think the vendor is one of the usual suspects....Watercraft Superstore. I've got to get a heat gun.

I think that ethanol is to blame for alot of things...over the years I have come to the conclusion that its actually the other additives different regions add to their gas that is the true culprit of lines actually rotting.

I have yet to find ANY rotten Tempo lines up here....BUT the green goo issue from the tempo lines reacting with the brass nipples is off the charts up here.

I think that holds true for the selectors too...I clean and pressure test them and have very rarely found a clogged or leaking one. Always spray some silicone spray on the rubber parts for them to turn nice and smooth and make a good seal.

One other place to pay close attention to is the Oring on the fuel/water separator...they can distort when carb cleaner is sprayed on them and leak air. All Westside Powersports Fuel Restorations get a new OEM one just to eliminate a potential issue.

Also while we are on the fuel line subject I will also add my 2 cents on see thru fuel lines. They suck. They get hard and cloud up from ethanol and should never be used. Black auto fuel line is the best thing you can use. If you have to have clear...Tygon line is the only choice but its VERY spendy. This is coming from a guy who put them on my personal machines about 5 years ago...I switched one over this year and plan to do the back up boat next year.

Can I join the XP club? Bought a clean 96 xp 2 days ago, rode it today, sore all over tonight. But happy with the ski, it realllly turns well!

Now that the SPX is actually running and has been on the lake again after a 7 year break, Can I join the X4 cult?

Trying to upload a pic for the first time and see if my avatar picture went up. 563880_4571626526544_94139677_n.jpg

OH my!!! So tearing down my 96 xp and figured out why it wasn't hooking up the way it should. It does have a solas prop......it just so happens to be too big. The guy apparently had a "new" wear ring installed. How they managed to get it in is beyond me.

So I'll be looking for a good stock prop and selling this one. Fortunately a buddy of mine MAY have one.

Guess at some point I'll post my own thread, but it can't hold a candle to racerxxx.

Not sure I could get it good enough, and that would take quite a bit of time. Is the solas prop really worth keeping?

Naw, send it to me for $20 :drool5: Honestly it is probably an XO and as good in that condition as many impellers being ridden out there. If you get another prop then make sure it is properly pitched for your ski. Either way, you need a wear ring.

Yeah wear ring is certain. I'm guessing it's solas based on the solas stickers on this thing.
