yeah i thought that 279.00 was NUTS i would never spend that much just to turn sharper.....unless i was racing..... also i have a 96 xp with the 787 not a 717 i think you got that mixed up....... i traded the 717 for the 787...... i found a few sets on ebay used and im bidding on one right now thats only 25 bucks so we will see what happends

Heck ya Brock, don't you spend $279 on those worx. Buy used and set your price at $100 total cost to you. Make sure it includes the hardware. PM me if you want me to tell you where a couple good sets are advertised now.

Two things: 1- a 717 X4 with a Factory pipe is an awesome thing that will beat a stock 96er if set up right.
2- I flew my body off one yesterday like a flying/flopping ragdoll trying to U-turn a crap trap at about 40mph! I'm OK but sore and banged up my knee a little. I really thought I was badder than it was.....NOPE! I have warned a hundred people that a X4 with sponsons will do this, but never really demonstrated it myself before. Both mine and my wifes phones were in my pocket....oh, Costa's are consumed by the lake as well. I still fell asleep smiling and surprised that that little X4 got the better of me and looking forward to another ride.

Got me a set of these

and they float

Just ordered my Sea Specs, thanks!

Brock, sorry the first response was to you on the sponsons and my second was just a general statement and admittance. I re-fell in love with that 95XP in my avatar yesterday. If it wants to run with the 787s then I'm gonna let it.

yes, to a degree that does apply, you 'might' see a slow down with both unless you have the power to push both, i'm NOT a tuner, but i've seen that happen, actually saw that combo push RPM's down, = top speed drops somewhat, then you have to compensate to get top speed back and rpm's up. a buddy (with a spec pipe) saw his drop to 7600 rpm and about a 3mph loss, we hard jetted the watebox and added prok's to compensate, got most of the rpm's back.

yes adding a factory pipe spec 1 would bring the rpm's back up and "fix" the condition created by the 85/88 and x0 prop. groupk has a similar thing on their page as well as where i obtained this info, bill oneill from one of his many posts on pwctoday.... Personally i don't have the answer whether the r&d nozzle is better alone then a x0 alone.... from what i read both do pretty much the same but i'd lean tward a xo not losing anything low but gaining a little top end i think the nozzle loses a little low but gains top but also efficiency in some conditions.

ya, pretty much right, there is no real answer and no perfect setup, since machines, riders, styles, and conditions differ.

so.... onto a question...

has anyone every tried to modify the flush fitting from another model ski to the x4 so we can stop using that stupid flush clip ? some kind of thru hull fitting ? I thought I might try to rig something up but if its been done, perhaps I can learn from someone's mistakes.

does everyone clamp off the back of the line when the flush their x4 also ?

Heck yeah I clamp the back of the line. That is the only way to force the water through and out in the 96GSX manner that you are talking about. I am always fighting the salt damage and I want the best flush. When you pinch it off the pisser sprays from 4 feet to 8-10 feet! The modded back flushing you describe will do it because the water will not be able to rush right out the path of least resistance(open 12mm exit).

The best all around flush tool is Lou's cut washer hose and a 1/4" nut driver. I can make it fit everything and flush from multiple points.

just checking on the clamp, i clamp it, but only because I was told to,i certainly wouldn't have thought of this on my own... it occurred to me yesterday when I was flushing that maybe not everybody knows this...

not familiar with lou's contraption, i'd be interested seeing it..

and i'd love to figure out a way to modify this on the x4 so that you can:

use a standard hose fitting
dont' have to clamp

1....use a radiator flush adaptor...kind of old school they used to cut into the heat coil lines and insert them to flush it.

2...put a plastic pool valve in.

Wow that's huge air.....documented. I can't be the only one with a X4 bruised leg from last weekend after seeing that. That's not your brother Jess this time either is it? Looks like you are spreading the talent and enthusiasm to your Minnesota crew.

Spimnatious, I think if you could replace the plastic through-hull water outlet that points down toward the pump with a female garden hose fitting(maybe on a 90 so it's facing you), then you would have it. Same result as having the hose pinched off when you are flushing yet nothing more to do when the hose is disconnected. I like the "idiot proofness" of it cause some rider that has clouded his head up somehow may forget to turn the valve back otherwise.

Dude that is intense!!! I would be on cloud 9 if I got half as high as you guys were getting. Does it hurt when you land with the ski? I noticed you guys were keeping your feet and body as close to the bars as you can. I told my bro's I wanted to set something up like that and they said I was crazy.

Big air for sure. I am heading back out today for more jumping and will be equipped with a gopro.

Sunday ended bad with one of my starters crapping out. The armature actually bent preventing the bendix from engaging.

thanks tonka & matt, i'll tinker with it and see what kind of contraption i can create, and if it works, i'll post a how to.

tonka ! nice video, huge hair, keep posting ! We rarely have good video (i'm the only one with a go pro in my group) but I can tell you that nobody in my group is getting that high or traveling that far in the air, i'm dam sure of that !

ok you guys have me convinced to get a gopro and take it with me out on the bay......we had 25mph winds last night and the marine radio was reporting 4-6ft waves so my bro. drove out from an hour away and we went out and tore it up....talk about some huge air...the waves on the bay are nice because they are so spread apart so you can build up some speed then launch at the curl of the wave...Ill get some vid. of it and you will se what im talking abiout

hey i see alot of guys taking the stickers off the xp's ...whats the best way to get them off...something like a blow dryer

something like that,,, more like a heat gun :)

i've peeled so many stickers off ski's that I swear my fingertips are immune to the heat now

heat gun will do the trick, $9.99 at harbor freight, on sale this week :) most of the time once you heat them up they peel right off but there is always a spot or two that gets stubborn and you really have to work at it :)

Which lake are you headed to?

great idea modding it so it goes through the outside of the hull, my neighbor put a garden hose fitting on his with a brass cap that gets reinstalled after flushing. I never thought to pinch the hose or put an inline shutoff so 100% of the water goes through the salty engine ski. I bought a inline shutoff for the water intake hose from lowes so if my ski has to ever get towed in i can go more then 5mph and not flood the ski, wrong waterline though. A 90 degree out by the jetpump would be like newer ski's and the male/female quick detach would be the ticket!

tonka you have pics and mod list for those ski's? great vid btw. I gotta work on my landings or im getting old (33) because after a few big jumps it starts to take its toll... do you guys premix your ski's or use the oil injection? if you use the oil injection do you add lil extra oil to the gas?

Scott

Thanks guys!!! My brother was in town for the weekend so I had to spend half the week swapping in another used motor into my machine. The one with the white hood/seat is me, and the one with the tribal flames is my brother. I had the camera till you see us swap helmets. We had already burned up a tank of gas with little break and it was humid as hell so I was pretty spent when the boats came out of the cove. Im 33 also with a tweaked back so yes....landings are tough. On double ups the take off is always hard to launch; if you watch my bails you'll see the machine bounce funny into the transition. That, being tired, and needing to walk the next day were the reasons for bailing so much.

I have spread the love for X-4s like the guests on Maury spread their seed....LOLOL

These are some new friends I made last year and now they both own a pair. There is also a handful of highschoolers with X-4s I've been helping keep them running this summer.

I run the Twin Cities Jet Pilots and our big freeride is Aug 24-26 in Lake City MN. I am typically the only one with X-4s...it looks like we could have as many as 15 out there this year. If anyone wants info just let me know its a great weekend of riding at an AMAZING campground!

Now as far as setup...yes I run premix in both my skis; mostly due to modifications and increased RPM.

My machine: 180psi head, Spec 1 pipe with race chamber, decked stock manifold, and water injection , yami 760 waterbox, Buckshot 46s on a Rossier mani and pro-ks (dual fuel pumps), Rev limiter, 6vein mag w/ a 16/24 prop, skat nozzles w/ 86/89 rings, manual trim, JD #17 intake grate.

My backup: 180psi head, Rossier pipe w/ water inj, Group K true 40 mm Bored carbs w/ k&N filters, Rev limiter, skat 17/22 prop, 85/88 nozzles, Manual trim, Inventioneering grate.

I also mod the battery box and front ebox mount to handle the jolts from hitting cross chop.

I have only busted one front mount...but on that last swap I put in the set of Rhaas urethane mounts. I sent him a huge box of cores to get a set.

great pic! is that manual trim on the handlebars? much better then vts? more pics! tonka whats your feeling of impeller upgrade vs nozzle/venturi upgrade (r&d, scat etc)? do you run stock trim tabs?

ya oops, urethane mounts, not gel... i saw the prices (over $200 if i remember right) and i decided against upgrading myself, and being a swamp rider its not nearly as important for me as it obviously is for you lol

did you go rec or race when you ordered your set...
