just curious, what compression do those 43cc heads give you? I have a head off of a stock 95xp 800 which came with HUGE pistons and a head to match, well, on a 96 engine, it gives me like 185psi of compression. In fear of blowing my motor, I've been using my stock 96xp head with std (82mm) pistons. I'm toying with the idea of bolting it on and seeing how it does, but again, don't want to blow my motor right away...

I thought you only have to increase the octane when you up the RPMs you run at... Hell, with those kind of compression numbers, I'm half tempted to disconnect the plugs and just run diesel through it :)

Doc 12- I absolutely love your boat! I think you have Trackers sponsons as well.

IDoSeaDoo- You must measure the squish when bolting on that foreign head. That is everything. 185 psi would be the very roof for premium pump gas if you had a Fat enough squish. My guess would be .060-.070. Even at that it would be safe to mix in some AV or race gas. 43cc seems like it should be more around 160psi to me but I'm still learning all this stuff myself.

IDoSeaDoo - RPM's do not affect necessary motor octane. Cranking Compression and squish does. I feel that cranking compression has a higher affect. In a snowmobile application 185 would be race gas.

Matt Braley - Thanks for the compliments. I love the look of this Doo stock. It has a New Hampshire 1996 watercross championships sticker on it. I would like to put some beach house sponsons on it. Probably build a motor from the bottom up with welded crank, ported cylinders, different rotary valve. Eventually I'd love to build a VE 920. Obvious things like hydroturf will be added. My previous HX had it and I loved it. I plan on keeping it and I have a bad history of not keeping things stock.

If anyone is interested. I have a UMI steering and UMI Bar set-up with KMI finger throttle. For sale. $380

i have two cyl's with some funky porting on them, came in a misc purchase when I was picking up cases and a crank for a friend, i wouldn't mind getting rid of them but i've been too lazy to throw them on ebay and frankly didn't know how to describe them, if you'd like some pic's shoot me a PM, they are mismatched right now, a std and a loose .25 so they'd probably need rebored to work, the porting business is over my head.

I don't see pulling off Trackers to bolt on BeachHouse but if you do sell me the old ones. What's so wrong with the ski's current setup? It could be a 63mph ski with a fuel cleaning. The official watercross sticker suggests that they were running more that pump gas in it, at least back then(so does that VP sticker).

Flying96- you still have the center piece of the R&D trim tab set installed on your ski. Take it off and it will handle better and gain MPH.

Typically more than 180 you want to be using at least 50/50 up to 200psi then full race gas....according to group K that is the cutoff for premium.

Alright I am still trying to figure out all the changes to my XP. How do you tell a factory spec 1 from a spec 2?

The Spec 1 uses the stock manifold while the Spec 2 has a manifold from FPP. If Spec 2 now you need to figure if you have the race or rec chamber. If you have the race chamber then is it the long or short version?

OK, so it has a full Factory Spec 2 pipe with manifold(Y-Pipe), I also noticed it has bungs for EGT's. The only thing that is stock is the purple waterbox which I will be swapping in a 98 SPX(heard its the ideal set-up). I am not sure about the long or short version, how do I tell? I will get a picture. So far I have also learned that the accelerator pumps have been removed on the stock carbs and aftermarket fuel pump has been installed. I have purchased a big hub pump from an RFI, and will soon be purchasing a prop for it. I also plan on reinstalling the oil pump and bottle for oil injection rather then the hassle of premix.

Ah fair enough. Aftermarket on the ski as of now is: R&D flame arrestors, R&D 85/88 nozzle, R&D ride plate/trim tabs, Solas X0 prop, R&D intake grate, Worx sponsons, primer kit and renthal bars with UMI switches.

correct me if im wrong but did you lose power with the xo AND the r&d 85/88? i know with your mods a xo alone or 85/88 alone are a great mod but together you'll need headwork or pipe.... I've been debating doing one or the other on my 96xp...

I have a couple white 97SPX waterboxes for sale...They are supposed to flow better and not break baffles according to Bill Oneil.

I also have 97 GSX's and 95 XP hoses which do the same thing....the exit is in a different spot on the waterbox and the 95 XP hose is shorter and more direct.

yes, to a degree that does apply, you 'might' see a slow down with both unless you have the power to push both, i'm NOT a tuner, but i've seen that happen, actually saw that combo push RPM's down, = top speed drops somewhat, then you have to compensate to get top speed back and rpm's up. a buddy (with a spec pipe) saw his drop to 7600 rpm and about a 3mph loss, we hard jetted the watebox and added prok's to compensate, got most of the rpm's back.

It might be because of the pitch. I know with my swirl and nozzles i'm still pulling 6900.

I was just pricing some race sponsons but before i pull the trigger and get them how much of a difference will i notice....also does anybody have any that they wanna sell

Heck ya Brock, don't you spend $279 on those worx. Buy used and set your price at $100 total cost to you. Make sure it includes the hardware. PM me if you want me to tell you where a couple good sets are advertised now.

Two things: 1- a 717 X4 with a Factory pipe is an awesome thing that will beat a stock 96er if set up right.
2- I flew my body off one yesterday like a flying/flopping ragdoll trying to U-turn a crap trap at about 40mph! I'm OK but sore and banged up my knee a little. I really thought I was badder than it was.....NOPE! I have warned a hundred people that a X4 with sponsons will do this, but never really demonstrated it myself before. Both mine and my wifes phones were in my pocket....oh, Costa's are consumed by the lake as well. I still fell asleep smiling and surprised that that little X4 got the better of me and looking forward to another ride.
