Just picked up a 96 XP this morning for almost no money. Has nokey, looks extremely clean and should start once I burn a key to it. Has R&D trim tabs, ride plate extension, and scoop grate. Looks like its got a prop too

Looks like these things are coming out of the wood work this year. Post some pics camaro430.
Any idea on the R&D tabs and extension? Mine came with them too but have read not too good for jumping. Just wanted to know from soembody that had both if they should be run together or one or the other and effects.

I can still get pretty good air with my trim tabs, but I can tell its harder to get big air on my XP vs my bones stock SPX.

The more I look at that 96XP the more I think its going to get parted. I want to try burning a key first to see what happens but it looks like its got some wiring issues. Put a battery in it yesterday and jumped the solendoid, the motor turns and has 148 per hole. VTS and all the gauges work. Its discustingly dirty inside the hull. I think this is going to make a better parts ski than a keep ski but well see what happens when I make a key. Heres a pic from when I picked it up, busted trailer didnt come with it.

FINALLY!!!

After ...
replacing grey lines and cleaning filters and selector
rebuilding carbs
cleaning rave valves
buying new battery
playing with carbs
stowing for winter
replacing voltage rectifier
rebuilding starter
investing in pop-off tester
changing carb springs to achieve 22-23 in each
buying another new battery - AGM this time
cleaning and re-oiling K&N flame arrestor

It ran AWESOME today!!! I can barely walk my legs are so wobbly but had a great time!
THANK YOU SO MUCH to those that helped me get this thing to behave.

Scored a 97 gsx last night for 400 bucks. Wasn't winterized right and both jugs cracked. Ski has R&D pipe, R&D intake, and R&D flame arrester. All of which will be going on one of my X4s. Then I'll fix the gsx and sell as a stock ski.... Score

I'm hopefully putting it together for this weekend.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to setup my carbs for this setup?
95 XP800, strong 787, R&D pipe, R&D intake, R&D power tower flame arrester.

75 piolets, 145 mains, 2.0 n/s, 65 gram springs, Mag HS 1, PTO HS 1 1/4, LS adjusters at 1 1/4 -- that is a good starting point for the screw settings-- the jets were spot on for my 97 GSX back in the day-- the gas may have changed some from when I tuned my ski thou. 160 and 160 in the top 2 fittings and a 120 for the stinger jet. I fed the 160's w/ the 1/4 line that came from the WB regulator-- start with the regulator turned all the way in and tune from there-- relative to water temp you run in.

The R&D pipe had a noticable better "hit" -- bottom to top than the stocker and pulled a consistant 100 additional RPM on the top end

This is the answer I was given and I followed it to a tee. So far so good!

Hmm thats weird. What is your setting on the water regulator. The adjustment is just above flush.

i looked at the water regulator today and the red cap was flush tomaro im going to try and take some pictures of the iside and mabe you could see anything wron or something like that

So after long Hiatus I finally said screw it and took the ski in.. Waiting on final diagnosis but it sounds like when the previous owner had the engine rebuilt they didnt shim the pump or align the pump shaft. thus all my vibration and exhaust coming loose. I cant wait to finally get more than 15 minutes ride time this year!

a mis-aligned engine would definitely do the trick :)

I was looking at that. I passed without actually going to check it out.

Its a parts ski. The kid has been tring to sell it since march but was asking way too much. In june he relisted it for a more reasonable price and I made an offer, he accepted. I drove almost an hour to go get it only for him to blow me off. A week ago Igot in contact with him again, shot him a crazy low offer and he took it. The hull is pretty clean but its a wiring nightmare. Had a car battery in it. Spun the motor it makes 150psi in both jugs so thats good. Had an R&D grate, ride plate extender, and 3 degree trim tabs. I snagged the tabs for my XP, sold the ride plate extender and the grate is on my buddys HX. Only other thing I need to snag off it is the primer for my XP and then the rest will prolly end up on ebay as a whole ski

So ive been emailing with Jet-Trim about a humped seat cover. The cover itself is only 145 but to send my seat out to have the foam installed is another 55 plus shipping. Has anyone bought the cover and made a hump themselves? If so what material did you use?
Thanks guys!

not sure, has to be some form of marine foam, semi stiff, I do have the # (and i'd be happy to pass it along to you if you PM me) of a custom builder in Bradenton that i'm sure can do everything, build it up, and make a custom cover for it, any style/color you want..., and he's suprisingly inexpensive. he did two seats for me, i'm lucky that he's only a hour drive so I can avoid the shipping costs, which can be a deal breaker. it is probably cheaper in the long run to find a hump seat locally, and order a seat cover and install it yourself, precut covers are not really hard to install if you have an air stapler and a helper.

he did this seat for me on my XPL, we emailed back and forth a few design idea's until we got it right, then he got to work...

i found him after following a few of his threads on another site, where he was building cruiser seats for guys on 4 strokes...

When I bought both my Jettrim 2" riser seat covers they included the foam when they shipped them. You simply glue the foam to your seat cover with contact cement then install the cover.

wow... thats good to know...

but hold on a second...i'm a bit confused...

Why the hell are the hump seats so expensive then ? why would anybody buy a 'hump' seat if all we need to do to convert the basic seat into a hump seat is that little bit of foam ? I thought the hump seats were actually different,, with the molded plastic forming the hump... and then i figured, well maybe a pro could build up that rear part with hard stuff, then apply the foam, then recover.

forgive me for being stupid on this, but i've never actually seen a hump seat with the cover off,, only covered.

My thoughts exactly.

They're so expensive because people are willing to pay the price.

Is there a place you can buy the foam? Or a type that is recommended? I dont mind doing it myself if i can get the materials needed.
