Hey is that not marble Hydro Turf on a X4? Ask and you shall receive I guess.

lol, looks like the picture was taken from an overpass or something but ya that looks marble :)

can i have a brief laundry list of what would cause loss of rpm from 7K to 6400. this is on a buddy's ski 96 xp 787.

he hasn't been out since it last ran at only 6400 i'm going to try and go out with him 2morrow after work.
i got a verbal rundown this evening...
cleaned up a gummy rave & replaced rave gasket
replaced exhaust gasket, meebe he saw something there that might have indicated a bad seal i dunno
checked comp, 150/150

what's next on the list to check...
water regulator ? (i could hard jet him fairly easy)

the only change he made that I can recall in the last 30 days was going from stock nozzle to r&d 85/88 but my left brain says that wouldn't drop 500+, maybe 150-200.

I took those pics on the ferry on the way home, phone camera sucked. I don't know if I'd consider it marble or camo. I would have preferred it be black but it doesn't look bad on there.

Hey guys!

I have a question for all you X4 owners because I have been hurting myself a lot on my XP.

The first problem I'm having is the way I ride the ski, I set with my feet behind me not in front of me and I sit way back on the seat because I'm so tall and my arms are long. It feels natural to ride this way and its real easy to stand right up also, But my ankle bones constantly rub and bounce off both sides of the hull and by the time I'm done riding their sore as shit.

The next problem is reboarding. Its not so bad if you only do it once or twice per ride but if your like me and constantly being aggressive and getting tossed off then your knees are in for HELL. Those stock mats and rivets do nothing but dig in and the pain increases everytime I have to climb back on.

I obviously know I need some nice soft squishy matting and that would make reboarding much better, But what can I do about my ankles grinding into the hull? Im never in the same position for long, Im jumping, Spinning, Turning hard, WOT and the whole 9 yards.

Im curious as to what you aggressive riders do to to protect your ankles, shins and knees? Because I can't keep doing this, Im limping around for four days after one day of riding and then after I'm better I go do it again. Im not getting tougher, Im getting the shit kicked outta me :D

Lol... Why not put some foam like hydro turf on the sides of the foot Wells where your ankles rub? May not look the best, but it well be easier on them. And get hydro turf on the back and replace stock. Gets rid of the rivets.

I'm not that aggressive of a rider, but I can tell you what I have done. First of all you need to get rid of the stock mats, and get either Hydro Turf or Black Tip mats. Another thing you can do is get some water shoes, they really help a lot. I too ride, when I'm riding aggressively with my feet back, and flat on the footwells, and let my legs take part of the shock, it will beat you to death if you try to sit when jumping wakes.

Lou

I thought about putting the turf on the sides Thumper, Have you heard of or seen anyone doing that before?

Yea Lou, The black tip mats are a must. My knees can't take much more. I was training my wife on reboarding out in the middle of the lake sunday and we both got on and off like ten times in a row and by the last time my knees were toast.

Nope.. You can be the first lol.

I have seen wave runners with foam/rubber all around the inside of the foot Wells.

It's funny the first and only time I have fallen off my ski it was colder and I was back on it before I knew what happened. When you do it quickly you don't even notice our in a panic cause the water is so cold lol.

i have a friend that turfed his entire footwell of his x4, i can take some pic's he lives 5 minutes from me :)
its overkill but actually serves a purpose, his ankles get beat up, i have no idea why, the only spot I get rubbed on is my calf. i don't get tossed that often,im not that adventurous.
he bought some b stock and cut it himself. and you can just do ankles on either side, about an 8" by 4" piece on either side where your ankles are should do the trick.
get rid of those terrible mats ! they are half the problem, probably why your slipping so much.
re: reboarding,,,, i don't use my knees at all,,, (except as springs to pop up) i grab the grab bar, get my feet up on the back in a squat position and mount right up with the balls of my feet on the back of the ski, hop up quickly and kind of leap frog into the seat before the ski tips back and sinks you :)

it never really occurred to me to use my knees, that sounds painful :(

Man that would be huge spim, would ya? I would love to see pics before my x4 gets camo padded :D

Is your neighbor tall? Im 6'5 or does he lean a lot? I lean way over sometimes, almost like sport bike style.

Im to long to reboard like you do, I can hop on it sideways on to my butt and stand up though. I found that out when I was tired of hurting my knees so I found another way. I usually grab the bar and put both knees on the back and then start the ski (still on my knees in the back) and take off, Then I pull myself up while on a plain. It would be perfect for me if my knees didn't get hurt doing it. I use my knees because my legs are so long I can't get my feet up.

I doubt it. I put the nozzles and a skat swirl on mine and according to my tach it's still hitting 6720. However, could the nozzle and prop cause a loss of 180 rpm? 6850-6900 is where it should be. I understand i'll lose about 4-5 mph with the swirl, intake grate and nozzle.

So I got a head scrather for you guys. The XP800 I just got. Took it out on the water today, kinda. I checked compression before I bought them, 150psi in both. Starts right up on the trailer. Got it in the water and all she would do is crank with a sputter every now and then. So I pop the seat off to have a look around. First thing I notice is it reaks of gas. I had put 20 bucks in before I left because it was empty. So anyway, check a few things press the start button and it fires right up. Great! put the seat on, hop on, push the button and it fires then dies out. WTF! So I slide the seat back, press the button and it starts. Take off riding and the thing rips. It must have a prop in it because it wants to rip your arms off on the top end acceleration. Way quicker up top than my SPX. Anway, riding with the seat slid back a little if I relatch it the motor will choke out and die. Open the seat and itll start right back up. Air is flowing through the seat as I can see through the passages in the seat. I did notice that the gas tank appears to be leaking causing the gas smell under the seat. Dont know if its the tank thats no good or the seal around the sender. Seadoo has an open recall on leaking tanks from 93-96 so Ill be calling the dealer tomorrow. But heres my thoughts, let me know what you think. The leaking fuel in the bilge is creating enough vapor that when the seat is on theres no air for the motor to breath in, causing it to choke itself out. Anyone else care to add any thought on this issue?

First on my list is track down the fuel leak and repair as needed. Then to see if it runs. Im going to swap another seat on to see if that helps although I doubt its a seat issue.

The PO was pretty dishonest about this, said he had it out on sunday and thats why it had very little gas. Its ok cause I beat him up on the price and aside from this issue am very pleased with what I have. I liken its acceleration pull to that of a yamaha GP1300r

i'll do my very best to take a pic tomorrow.

he's about 5'10, and complains about his ankles all the time, and again, it baffled me a little bit since my ankles never feel abused (sore like my knees, calfs, thighs and glutes but not banged up)

he's new to the x4 so maybe he does more than his share of spinouts or is not landing well balanced when he comes off a boat wake, i've never really tried to figure it out but maybe i'll pay closer attention

definately fix that leak, we don't want you to be shiskabobbed

never hear of the vapors choking out the oxygen, thats a new one..., curious what somebody else would say

With the leak its unsafe to ride. Im going to call the dealer tomorrow, this ski should be covered by the open recall. It appears to be leaking from exactly where the reall states. All 93-96 tanks are covered.

I cant come up with any other explaination as to why the motor will run perfect with the seat off but wont even start with it on other than a lack of air. I have fuel and spark and with the seat off, plenty of air so....

I wish I knew the name of these old mats. I bought them used(craigslist add believe it or not). I could feel that sore ankle feeling as soon as I heard it(ouch). This design worked for me cause the ski is ugly, but the padding on the inside of the hull takes away those sore ankles.
At the races I saw Hydroturf everywhere on those skis. some guys buy it by the yard and just dip it in the stuff. I'm talkin over vents in front of seat(he had some fancy seat), all over the hood, covering the nose, etc. Those guys are function first and just tired of getting banged up I guess.

Just to clarify...not all tanks are cover by the recall...only the 12 gallon and maybe the 9 gallons tanks are covered. The 15 Gallon in the GTX is not effected by the problem.

Check out the hydro turf lift wedges. They keep your ankles from beating the hull and give you something to "grip" when your in the air.

Camero...its usually a leaky exhaust that chokes out the motors...but I guess...if there is not enough oxygen...it wont go.

I use the wedges...if you contact Gary at Jettrim around November and beg....he will make a mat with a built in wedge and extra padding everywhere else. Maybe we could get a group order together...that will get him in the mood!

The carbon monoxide would decrease the oxygen content in the engine bay, so i guess it makes sense that it could be a leaking exhaust; which is why it runs with the seat off.
