And I'd love to see some pic's & steal ideas :)
Then I'll see your pics and continue to steal your ideas. You already had a "sexy" looking engine. I got my Spec 2, looking for my T-tank. Why the top end? High hours? low compression? I saw an engine pic last week that had custom automotive billet high pressure oil lines that thread on used for the main water lines. That's kinda over the top but it happened.[/QUOTE]

hours weren't that high on this engine, approx 120 but my last three rides were in 4+ ft seas, and at some point water got in the engine. Oh well, chit happens. One of the downsides of running proks I guess even with outerwears sometimes you can get splashed.

Just a little fyi to everyone, if you drop a nut and bolt or socket while changing your sponsons, it's gone for good. There is a little void in between the styrofoam bracing and the Hull.

Alas my x4 claims the another 10mm socket....damnit.

hmmm, weird, when i pulled mine, I found a nice 10mm socket... what comes around goes around :)

These 95XP 800 seem to be popping up all of a sudden. I was told only 500 were made. Since I bought mine I've seen one in Ohio. The one in Miami doesn't have the original hood, the original has a single gauge and no mirrors.

saw this one in NJ.... rebuilt motor removed oil pump/premix, young kid owned it claims its a 96 but we know better, battery was stone dead even disconnected and charged i couldn't get a good compression number best on both cyl were about 140 but again the battery was dead! Waterbox valve was missing was hard watered to it. Rear section looked repainted quite a bit of chipped paint but yet another 95xp800...

Picked myself up a 96 xp 787 that needs the fuel system gone through and a starter solenoid put in for $150. Score

It causes me a little physical pain to know I've missed another deal like that. I throw $150 at an X4 every time the wind blows. It really looks like a winner too, great score man.

YES, good score. How do people find deals like this? I look on the sides of streets and on CL for deals...nothing!!!!!

Same here and i've found nothing!! I put a wanted ad out for a X4 and explained what years I was looking for as most don't know what a X4 is and I only got one reply in like 3 weeks. It was for a ratted out 99 SPX and a 96 XP with no motor.

Try the "Search Tempest" to spread out your CL search. From the FL panhandle I've gone up to AL a couple times for deals. Usually the best I get is a complete but well broken and faded turd for around $300. When I said "i throw $150 at an X4 when the wind blows" I mean parts cost trying to make something out of a ski I have much more in.
I do good at boat repair places. People take skis to the guys that spend their days fixing Mercruisers and Evinrudes and sometimes they can be found out back collecting mildew. You would be surprised how many of those guys don't ebay or anything and have a pile of BRP parts in the corner that they don't value that much. Then they start telling you what their buddy's got, and so on.

search tempest rocks ! but you have to be willing to drive, and in my experience, its hard to scoop up a deal thats 4 hours away cuz you usually want to wait till the weekend to make that long drive and by then a good deal is history. I've missed out on some nice deals because I couldn't get there the same day which is why i generally try to stay local. (and your more inclined to walk away if it only took 20 minutes to get there and find out its total crap)

and a local that does this for supplemental income will call on those deals, then flag the hell out of the listing to get it removed so you don't get to see it.. happens all the time... bastages !

So true on both parts! If I didn't invest much time in checking out the ski I will be much more likely to walk away if its not a steal. And around here the good deals come and go in a single day. If you don't check CL daily you will never even see the good deal ads.

My first ski is a '96 XP. From everything I read they are a blast. Can't wait to take it out for its maiden voyage. Hope it goes well. I tossed on some Turf and am now waiting for my new VTS boot to arrive. Then I need to get out and give it a go to see if any other issues arrive. Thinking about swapping to dirt bike bars and a finger throttle too.

DUMB QUESTION ALERT!!!!

What size needle and seats do I need to get for my 96 XP?

Its giving me a blubbering rich problem on the top end and won't reach max rpm so I figure the carbs need rebuilt. Compression is perfect, air intake is clean, needles are at stock settings. If I pull the choke while its blubbering it dies and I turned the fuel selector off and back on while running it one time for testing purposes. In which case it picked up and ran like a raped ape for a few seconds and started blubbering again.

I like the 2.0 as a replacement but I believe stock is 1.5. Check out Seadoosource(anglefire) carb reference chart.

anyone ever do, or see some creative sticker jobs on an x4 hull, specifically the 96 xp ?

i'm poking around and saw some weird azz skidoo stickers the here kitty kitty ones...

too much ?
