On another note I maybe going to pick up another 96 xp this weekend. The comp test is good but she's pretty wore Hull wise. If I pick her up I'll post pics.

I don't disconnect mine and i'm on my 2nd season with my battery, i use the quick connects with the tender that are provided. so IMO it makes no difference. maybe it just depends on how anal you are, and if you want to go thru the trouble, if its for a long time, say, more than 30 days between rides, sure, disconnect it, but I ride weekly and charge weekly, with no problems.

is there an improvement in replacing the 96 xp stock waterbox with a 97-99 SPX waterbox ?
any difference in sound or performance ?

Yup Bill says they flowed better...whatever that means! 100-200rpm
Also the GP 760 yami boxes are supposed to be the chit...i like the sound. I have one for $80 shipped if interested.

96 XP Recall!
I'm not sure if you guys know this, there's an open fuel tank recall for all 96 XP's. The fuel tank may crack around the filler neck and must be replaced. Call your dealer with your HIN to see if your tank has been replaced yet. This same recall also applies to:
1996 SP, SPX, SPi, GTS, GTi
1995 SP, SPX, SPi, XP800, XP, GTS, GTX
1994 SP, SPX, SPi, XP
1993 XP

does the engine have to come out to replace the 9 gallon tank ? I know it has to come out for the 12 gallon. but honestly, there is no way in hell i'm going to let my local dealer pull my engine !
There is recall, I checked last summer and mine was not effected (15 gal tank) but my neighbors GTi was. I made a thread about that but I can't find it, but I found this one. Read post #8 from Chester.

Going on the wall in my garage above my X4's. Ill post another pic when its hung. I found it on ebay last week for pretty cheap. Its 11ft x 3ft!

i know i've brought this up before but has any1 successfully designed any kind of fuel/cooler rack for the back of the x4 ?
i'd love to see something, these skis are so short on storage, and fuel range.
if not a rack, still looking for some kind of mountable fuel pack that could go on the back and add 3 gallons.
all the fuel packs i find are too dam wide

Fortunately the X4 is all about fun, not storage and range. If you want range and lots of storage, try the 4 seat LRV.
The original XP800 was made for the race track and that's why it's so quick and agile. Kinda like comparing a Ferrari to an SUV.

yes chester I know, but i'm not giving up my xp !!! part of my problem is that we have tons of long river runs in my area, in addition to the gulf of mexico, and its a pain to have to stick within 20 miles of the ramp.
the closest can I can find that will mount on the back (and cover up my beloved Di46 sticker) would be something like this.. a 3 gallon can. a 3 gallon rotopax. What I do now is mount a 5 gallon race can on the back of my buddy's 4 stroke (problem solved) but it would be nice to be able to carry my own.
this little bugger, although expensive, I think would mount quite nicely w/o hanging out the sides
16 L x 15 W x 4 1/2 H 3 Gallons.

The 2.5 gallon red jug fits it the front storage bin snug up against the tubes.
Also if you remove bin tank fits on top the existing gas tank or on the side of tank and hull.

I thought I was crazy with the 2.5 gal tank but I found one. Its an older tank
