Ok X4 gurus, need your help. Im not new to seadoo or X4s in general but this ones got me stumped. I picked up a very very clean 96 XP in nonrunning condition from a friend in exchange for painting his stand up. Anyway, im stumped. Plug the lanyard on and itll beep, all gauges come to life and work, vts works, will not crank. The motor will spin freely by hand however. Swapped mpems with another 96 XP and same deal. Im thinking maybe a ground issue? Id ideally like to get it running again casue I do love how this hull handles and the thing is super clean. Plus its got R&D ride plate, trim tabs, and intake grate.... Help

OK questions as I'm also trying to learn.

If ground was bad would anything work?

How about a bad solenoid??

start with the solenoid. then check grounds from the rear e-box to the battery ( make sure the is a good conection between the wire and the conector.)

it really sounds like a bad solenoid to me. i picked mine up in the same condistion, i bought it for $500 non-running, put in a $28 part and she fired right up.

Well I'm in a bit of a dilemma..bought a 95 xp 720 clean has the beach house sponsons and wave shield. had intake grate, has primer for dual carbs. has r and d flame arrestor solas impeller the oil lines broke at the banjo fitting and the pistons are gauled up but the cylinders are ok even the fuel gauge works AND THE SEAT HAS NO RIPS IN IT! All of the stickers on the hull are like brand new the only parts that are worn is the hood bit faded and the grab handle is a bit gummy. I have a spare 720 I'm going to throw in it tomorrow until I get all of my engine parts in....question is this, I was planning to part the ski out and sell the trailer, but now am having second thoughts of parting it out and riding it like I stole it for a couple of months. What do these ski's bring in the spring time with clean titles and vts working?

Put a black grab handle on it if the purple one is really bad.

The really mint ones should be perserved if at all possible. I have parted a couple i wasnt proud of...but most of the machines i part down are total turds.

Got the engine done and took the xp out in 2 ft surf this afternoon. No issues ran great but fell off the damn thing 2 times. Too used to the bigger gts hulls. I think I'm gonna start looking for an xp 800. I had this one airborne 4 feet and my arms feel like rubber. But I forgot how front heavy the ski's I've been running are. Maybe selling the gts's instead now..

yes, its a great ride, but the 800 has significantly more power !
i'm thinking the 95 720 would be worth about $1100-1600 max in Florida running on a trailer, depending on the buyer, and how much of a hurry your in.

Yeah I think that's a generous figure...thanks for not trying to take the wind out of my sails. I've come across 6-8 xp 800 for the same or cheaper around here. I'm too big for this thing and the kids are scared of it, Hate to do it but I think parting it out would be the most sensible choice even tho I hate to do it.

I just went ahead and bought one man. You could make something that would work, but you would have to remove the factory style "T" that the hose hooks to and figure out another route. For $20 it really wasn't worth the research and trial and error time.

I can't make the edit function work, here's a couple of pictures of the ODI Rouge Grips.

What length ODI grips fit the 96 XP?

I use Scott waffle grips on all my stuff. They are cheap, and still have good grip when wet. FYI... get the ATV version. The dirt bike version has an oversized grip for a twist throttle.

You can see them in this pic of my 90 Si restoration project.

Did they make a 800 xp in the 70's?

Picked this one up last night...thinking about using some really groovy shag carpet for hydo turf, maybe fuzzy dice for the mirrors.
