The X4 Thread

It should fit, the 96GTI (I have one), is an elongated X4 hull, and the tank will to through the front hatch. But it is a tight fit, I've had mine out. However you're only going to gain 3gals. The XP is a 12gal. tank, the GTI is 15gal.

the '96 XP is only 9 gal.

9 gal vs 15 gal is huge.... even at 11.7 GPH WOT big difference and might actually keep the nose down in chop which for me in NJ is normal! If it fits though the x4 front opening that would be good info to know....

Anyone know if you can buy replacement UMI cross bar pads without buying new handle bars? I picked up a used UMI setup and everything is clean except for the pad cover :(. I would like to keep it saying UMI if it doesn't cost an arm and leg.

The easy/cheap answer would be to get 2 of the 2.5gal blitz cans, and just put them under the hood. I'm sure you can figure out a way to strap one to each side of the hull, in the front compartment. (There is a lot of open room)

The realistic answer is... do you really want to do 80 miles on an XP????? They are fun to throw around, and get wet on... but you will be beat to death on it, using it for a "Destination" ride. This is exactly why I have my Big 4 person, Polaris Genesis. The seat is much wider, and MUCH softer. AND... it's so long, that it rides smooth even over the rough stuff. If I'm only holding it at 75% power (about 49~50 MPH) I can go +120 miles.

A 4-stroke may be out of your price range... but I would recommend a 3 or 4 seater for destination rides.

Just my 2 cents.

this is a long twisty river ride, smooth as glass... no bump's at all, 80 miles on an xp IS a long ride if its choppy, but on smooth water, 80 is nothing :) in theory we could do the ride in just over two hours, but we'll drag it out to 4, have lunch, etc etc.

its basically 80 miles of this...

can's inside that front are are NOT a bad idea, had not considered that, i'll wander out to the garage in a few and peek in there :)

i've had a big wide 3 seater, got rid of it cuz it was ONLY good for destination rides :)

two problems with the four stroke,,

1) wife
2) its not that I can't afford a 4 stroke i just don't wanna break the bank fixing it :), i know with my xp, that no matter what happens to it, it can be fixed for less than a weeks pay :)

yes, larger 96GTI/95GTX gas tank...... evidently it fits right in a x4, just need straps and sender and cut the filler hose(at least thats what info i gathered)

Scott

Yup...I will have to see if you can fit them into the hood hole. I'm thinking the motor has to come out to get it in.

btw anyone had a problem with the exhaust waterbox bracket being loose what did you guys do to secure it? stainless screws? Mine apparently rusted and snapped the heads off.

Scott

The thing that straps around the waterbox? Its pop riveted in. move it over and re-secure.

Call UMI...I think they are $20. They kinda suck being vinyl...they crack quickly.

Yes my pop rivets are long gone maybe stainless screws might last longer its tough to get in there.

that photo looks awesome, i want to ride there

The X4s tank was funny last summer, a friend was riding with us, me on a 14 gallon XP, wife on 15 gallon GTX, him on a 9 gallon XP...

he thought we were heading in lol, and of course his fuel guage doesn't work (I'm OCD about that so mine does)...

anyway; he ended up being a human tow rope for over a mile....

Still looking for a '01 RX Carb... they have a 15 gallon tank :)

the '96 XP is only 9 gal.

and the upgrade is only to 12 gallons

i'm pretty dam sure the upgrade is 9-12 not 9-15. (i'm speakng about x4 hulls) not the wishbone hull.

either way its only a 3 gallon pickup, but thats is still significant, but they fill pretty slowly too, the fuel filling has to be rerouted, and the storage bin, which is about right for a bottle of water and a pair of flip flops, now will have room for one of the other, but not both !

if you like that pic, here's a short video (not mine) that gives you an idea of what twistie runs look like, and you'll get an idea why we like this as a change of pace to the gulf riding.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Vqtvc-p54o

its a lot of fun as long as nobody breaks down and that the group is small enough that everybody behaves, if you get a large group you always run the risk of one guy being a pita.

tonka, it might be a baker system so, do you think it would be worth the 275.00? it's not a must have for me.

omg that looks fun! Nothing like the wide open lakes around here! Last summer I was in Naples, FL and they have a bunch of rivers that looked like that. We are planning on going back next summer and this time I'm bringing the skis!

So I just remember last year when I was taking my battery out, my battery box was broken. Does anyone have one forsale?

I'm out of battery boxes for the same reason. I just got a 97GSX and as soon as I saw his battery I knew the box would be cracked.

VTS motor...I hear Nissan window motors are plug and play...300zx I think.
