Seems like it would rev. higher faster, but using basic physics, when you jump a wake I don't think without the flywheel the ski would have trouble maintaining power.

when i see something like that i wonder, if it is so good you figure the factory would go with it, it would probably be a lot cheaper to produce

yeah thats a double egded sword. as technolagy progresses products can be devolped that was not thought of/ not posable to crate/produce at that time.( i.e when the 1969 camero was produced fuel injection and the ls series engines where not even dreamed of.) however you do make a good point here, why not go with it from the factory? well the answer to that could be many things, buy mainly, imo, it could be one( or more of these 3 reasons: 1: it just does not work/reliable, 2: it was not economical to produce/to hard to produce, or 3. it did not meet the regulations that seadoo had to conform to when they where being mass produced.

I tend to agree, I've always thought that BRP knows more about building SeaDoo's than I do. Except for intake grates and impellers, I've never been one to modify my ski's.

Thought I'd make my first post in this thread since I have finally finished the xp.

Got through breaking in top end and got GPS reading of over 53 mph.
Should be able to scuff off a few extra mph once I can hold WOT.

You really have to hold on once your on the gas and man does it turn on dime and want to rip you arms out of it sockets.

I think wifey will prefer the GTI once she rides the xp. Be to scary for her :p

yes, the x4 hull takes some getting used to,... but once you get a handle on it, it really is a good ride, a well set up ride will offer you everything you can ask for except fuel economy.

The light weight drive shaft coupler should be considered a "Race Only" mod since the negative will out weigh the positive for recreational use.

Most watercraft don't use 2 "Flywheels" like Rotax does. Yamaha, Kawi, and Polaris all use a plain coupler such as the one on eBay. (normally with a rubber damper in them) BUT... none of those engines run a rotary valve. There may be some limitations on accel, and Decel that we are not aware of. Also... without the extra mass... when you come out of the water... you will quickly rev past the Max RPM's. Yes, the rev-limiter will take care of it... but it may jump to +8000 RPM before it's slowed down.

The coupler it self won't do any damage, and it will allow better acceleration... but it will also bring out cavitation quicker too. Oh.... and it does nothing for top speed. It will just get you around a corner faster... assuming your pump is in perfect condition.

Lightened flywheels have been around forever, but they are almost never pimped to the recreational user.

Just my 2 cents... take it for what it's worth.

Well after a long search and a long drive i've got a 787 powered X4! I bought this from dustin88 over on the pwc forum. It was about a 600 mile round trip for me but for the price it was well worth it. The motor looks to be original, it doesn't look like its ever been out of the ski, still has a OEM starter, carbs cleaned, new fuel lines and has 170 170 on a mac tools gauge and 165 165 on a Sears gauge. It doesn't smoke a ton after setting so the rotary valve seals should be in good shape. I checked the compression after running it to be sure anything that could have leaked into the cylinders was burnt off. The engine bay is super clean! It just needs a wear ring and a good cleaning! It also has a Jet Dynamics scoop grate, unknown brand trim tabs (maybe you guys will know) and what looks to be Beach House Sponsons. Sorry for the night picture I had just got it home and its pouring rain out now.

Hey guys got a question, so how do you guys keep your jet ski clean (like engine compartment and hull)? Mine is spotless right now from the last owner and I wanna keep it that way.

Castrol Super Clean, I cut it just a little, about 75% cleaner 25% water, spray it on wait a few mins. hose it off. If you can't find it Purple Power works pretty well also. The Castrol is the best my wife dilutes it about 50% and uses it for household cleaner, she says its the best she's ever used.

purple power is my favorite... i put some in an old windex bottle, spray down anything that got grease grime on it, and the inside of the hull, then rinse off a minute later, good as new... I also use c-block (corrosion block) and hit all the electrical connections, bolt heads, etc etc after rinsing to help keep water/salt from getting back in there.

purple-power.jpg

wally world $8.

Lear-Chem-ni-f09-1_fb.jpg

$18ish at West Marine or on line

or you can use fluid film.
Fluid%20Film.jpg

at john deer, but a tad pricier than c-block.
don't use wd40, imo it doesn't help much, but it IS better than nothing i spoze', and don't use silicone spray, again, it helps, but you get a lot of buildup with repeated use, and it rinses off too easily... with cblock and fluid film, its kind of spray on and forget about it, its good for several rides.

for the outside, honestly, its a seasonal wax, and a rinse/wipe down at the end of every ride , (ok ok, at the end of most rides) my primary hull cleaner is brake cleaner for grease.

for the "inside" of the engine, assuming you see salt/brackish now and then

that is dependent a a lot of factors, but i'm gussing the polaris in the back? lol jk
or is that a yahamy? i can't tell the differance.

and it that seroiusly a splash gaurd on the middle one?

the 4 stroke on the end is a GTX, i think its a 07', and actually its the slowest of the bunch, around 55mph

the middle one (splash guard) is around 56, and the far right has identical setup.

the Fastest, (NOT MINE) on the left, white/black is a 93 with a 951 and spec II squeezed into it with 48 novi's, not sure on gps with the novi's but it was gps'd at 61 before the carbs were upgraded last week. (the carb's on the 93 dam near cost more than either 96's complete as is) hahah...

an actually, i hate to admit it, but I like the ski with the splash guard, it really works in mild chop and since we ride all winter and the water gets dam chilly, I certainly won't vote to take it off, eventually it will just fall off :)

^ Where in Fl?

That pic was taken at the Franklin Locks in Ft Myers, about 2 hours west of you.
however, I have ridden south miami, monument island, haulover, etc a time or two, but 90% of my riding is west coast and the occasional "guy getaway" weekend up in the Harris Chain of Lakes in central florida.
