Alright its getting starting to get pretty cold, so what the best way to winterize my ski (a link to well informed thread would work also)?? I did search and everything was about like jet boats and I don't wanna mess anything up so by going off one of those threads. Thanks Guys!!! Brrrrrrrr

There is one thing I do that's not on the list but I think it is because of where I live. I plug up all exterior openings tape or rags. Nozzle, exhaust, pee tale, water inlet, etc. We have alot of dirt dobbers, snakes, field rats, wasps, and chipmunks. One summer I cranked it and there was a wasp nest right in front of the impellor above the inlet grate. That was prolly the fastest I ever ran.

Ok thanks, now I have two question
Spray a protective anti-corrosion film on the external parts of engine (WD-40 Or what should I use)

Drain the engine block and manifolds and fill the engine with anti-freeze (I don't get that antifreeze part?? and What is there to drain on the ski??)

Thanks for the help as it my first year with a jet ski!!!

I use WD-40.

I am sure there is a better way I have never read the proper way. I take the hose off going to the rear that lets the water in and stick it in a antifreeze 50/50 bottle, crank it when I see antifreeze comming out the back I turn it off and zip tie the hose up high. There are directions in the owners manual I am told.

Everytime I take it out of the river I crank it and rev it for about 15 sec to flush water out of it.

I'm sure someone else will chime in and tell you an easyer way.

Solas impeller's 17-25, 15-23, and 15-20.

I am guessing the 17-25 is more top end and 15-20 is hole shot, and 15-23 is in the middle?

Hu??

Did I miss a question somewhere else?

If you tried to use a 15/20 on an 800... you would probably be bouncing off the rev-limiter. For a Concord, a 15/23 is what a stock engine will push. OR, an 16.5/23.5 for an "X"

I don't like WD 40 as a storage oil. It has too much solvent in it... and it can attack platic and rubber parts. IF... you need to get salt water cleaned out... it's fine.

For storage... use a silicon spray. I personally use the seadoo brand storage oil, and fogging oil for everything I own.

The anti-freeze is if you are leaving it outside in freezing temps. It's hard to get all the water out of a seadoo engine, and putting some anti-freeze in it, will keep you from cracking the jugs. (and killing the engine) If you live in a warm part of the world... or you keep it in the garage (above freezing) then it really doesn't matter. (but it still helps keep corrosion under control)

Soo I just got done cracking the pump oil seal and I almost puked when I smelled that oil!!! I wish I wouldn't have done it in the garage...... :puke:
I still havn't gone back out to finish it hoping the garage will clear a little!! Yuck Photo on 2011-09-23 at 18.29.jpg

Is that oil ok or do I need to service the pump?? If so how do I do that??

If you haven't heard any strange noises from the pump, other than the SeaDoo rattle. I would just refill with pump oil. I use Mobile 1, 75w-90 synthetic, GL-5, you can get it at most auto parts stores. It doesn't smell near as bad as the SeaDoo pump oil, and it's a lot cheaper, about 10.00 a quart.

Bought one of those battery RPM gauge's I saw on another thread (TTO Trail Tach). The guage works great, I put it in when I rebuillt the top end because it also has an hour gauge. When I am wide open I run at 6740 I figure thats good I have heard 6800. I hated not having a tach this was easy install just FYI.

I can believe that! burnt / old jet pump oil is WICKED smelling! down right evil smelling stuff.

SOOO jealous!! LOOK AT THAT CLEAN CLEAN ENGINE!....yea, i heard that stuff was wretched, but havent got to my pump yet..(impeller looks like its in great shape, but driveshaft looks pitted up pretty bad, have a spare one in better shape)..

HACKETE;
Ispoke to Louie about this recently, and he said I couldn't use a MultiPurposeGauge on mine,(a 96spx), so what is that RPM gauge you talk about? is it an inline installation?and it will tell any new hours i put on the ski? can you send me a link to it? thanks mang!

That's the one I got but it was $29 when I got it. It runs off an internal battery that is supposed to last 5 years. It keeps track of hours ran from the point you put it on. All you do is wrap the wire around your spark plug wire. Minnetonka4e posted about it which is what I had read.

Think I finally found my X4 800, (I have a 95 XP 717 currently). Looks to be in good shape, bad trim motor (no biggie). I know I'll have to replace the fuel lines and rebuild the carbs. Going to check it out tomorrow, but doubt I'll be able to put it in water. Any suggestions on what I should look for in terms of condition? I can check the compression, but anything other suggestions while on the trailer? The good news is I have all winter to work out any problems. Thanks guys!

edit- It's a 97 SPX.

I would just check the basics at least, get under the machine and check the pump intake and impeller, wear ring, etc. Verify that the fuel guage works and the little magnet has not dropped in the bottom of the tank to render the guage always reading empty. (happened on 2 that I have owned) All tools to help negotiate price ;)

I've dealt with the magnet problem before as well. I suppose giving the engine a good 'shake', to check the motor mounts, couldn't hurt either.

One more X4 - 800 I just bought a 97 SPX for $1200, trailer included. Now I need to find a double trailer to pair my 95 XP 717 with it. It's in good condition, still has the gray fuel lines which will be my first project. Also has what looks like mildew inside. It sat in storage for a while from what I understand. I'm guessing with the seat on.

What can you guys suggest to clean her up? I haven't done a search yet, but I'm sure there are plenty of good tips out there. Any good tricks to get the mildew out? Engine cleaner safe to use on the non-engine parts? What do you use on the hood to clean and restore the original color? Someone decided to paint the handlebar covers, so that will probably be replaced.

Simply Green is pretty good stuff and safe too. Bleach is good for mold/mildew but is very strong stuff. Don't breathe it.
Seadoolou just painted his handlebar cover and it looks good.

Well I hope to be joining the club this weekend. Technically I have a X4 now (96 SPX) but i'm going to get a 96 XP this coming weekend! i've only been riding two years now and ever since I rode a 96 XP last year i've been wanting to ditch the couch I had which was a 98 GTX RFI and get one. The one i'm looking at has aftermarket sponsons, a scoop grate, and aftermarket trim tabs. It should handle like its on rails!
