you said replacing the check valves helped your fuel problems? could they cause max rpm to be inconsistent if they're not functioning properly?

What mine was doing is this: 0-75% throttle seems fine, WOT it would hit 6k for about 2 seconds then fall to 4k instantly. I heald it at wot long enough to feel it do it consistantly 3 times which was about 15-20 seconds. I can't explain it, I would guess it had something to do with presure building up in tank. If I loosened my gas cap it ran fine and would hit about 7k (if the tach is right).

Can sand/dirt get to this point through the water system? I don't know the water route inside the jugs.

well i think my problem is coil related. the skis ran great all year, but this past weekend it seemed sluggish up top. acceleration was the same. spark plugs are perfect, going to check compression this weekend. i was thinking it could have possibly been fuel related (maybe bad gas), but now that i think about it, the tach i have gets its signal from the spark plug wire and the wot rpms were a bit erratic; ranging from 6000 to 6800. does it make sense that the coil could be going bad? i'm going to test the coil this weekend to be sure, but i was just wondering since i've seen a lot of threads pertaining to bad coils.

I finally took my 96 XP out last weekend and got to ride it hard! Had a lot of fun and burned the entire tank of gas in about 1 3/4hrs. These things really drink gas! It didn't burn much oil though. Looks like I can get about 5-6 tanks of gas on each oil fill, does that sound about right? Also, the lakes around here are always pretty busy so it stays choppy. I spent about half my time in the air and the ski would lose it's hookup it seemed and killed my speed. Should an intake grate be my first upgrade? I still want to be able to jump, but not loose all my speed/power when I land.

get a worxs maxiloader, it makes all the differance. i actually gained 3 mph on my top end.

WOW... that's ugly.

Nope... water shouldn't be able to get in to the engine. BUT... since I see rust on the rings... and the piston crown is crushed... I would say it took a mouth of water at high speed, and then sat. THEN... when it was run again... it ate itself.

I have a UMI top loader, and it works well. My top speed right now is 56~57 MPH (GPS) SO... I didn't really loose any top speed. BUT... I did make sure all the pump parts were 100%... opened the nozzle 1mm... and I installed a 17/23 Swirl impeller too.

I know it's horrible, I understand about the pistons the sand/dirt I was refering too is above the piston on the pic. There is a chamber where the jugs were covering before taking them off. That brown spot is about half an ounce of sand and had same on other jug even though that piston was alot happier.

Does anyone happen to know if the balence shaft on a 787 has sealed bearings? I ask because on my 97 GSX that is what went out. If I am replaceing the top end I don't want to have to replace the bottom next summer cause I didn't check this. If the bearings are sealed then that 1 oz of oil doesn't lubercate them correct?

We went today to river had a blast! The 95 XP is running great so is wife's GTI. Got top end kit comming in this week for the 96. Already have engine out and cleaned up. The oil in the bottom was sludge. Cleaned it out with diesel fuel, put a coat of oil on it and have it ready. I do have a question, it has Ocean Pro flame arrestors on it. Should I up the carb stock settings some?

SPX800,
How did your coil test go?

the doo is at our camp and we never got out there this weekend, but hopefully i'll be out there this weekend coming.

1996 xp for sale in central alabama. saw it in local classifieds on single trailer, says good condition seller asking $1400. if anybody is interested, PM me and ill get you the guys number

Tygon is very good fuel line... but the USCG doesn't know that. SO... if you replace your fuel lines with colored stuff... you may get hassled. Your best bet for fuel is ASE automotive hose.

I use tygon for the small oil injection hoses.

I know I ask alot of questions.. but here is another one that I have been thinking on.

My wifes 97 GTI is 85 hp 717/720 engine single carb.
My son's 95 XP is 85 hp 717/720 engine duel carbs.

Can I get an intake from a GTI and run a single carb on the XP and not loose performance?
I assume the GTI has a bigger carb. The resoning behind it was less to mechanically go wrong and easyer to work on.

Yes... you can do that.

The single carb is a 40mm, and the twins are 38's. No performance should be lost.

Well finally decided to join in and post some pics of my X4 (1996 Seadoo Xp) Been working on it for a couple months now off an on getting it back in run ready state after sitting for 3 years, and spent the entire weekend on the canal, then it at the wear ring and broke the trailer axel great fun so it is back in the garage for a pump rebuild and new springs. But here it is, trying to get everything back to be able to enjoy the long weekend coming up:thumbsup:.
