if it is, it can't be much. they probably added a speedometer (depending on what model). I wish they offered a bigger fuel tank, but i know that would require more buoyancy from the hull (and before you know it, it's a GSX) I mean, even the 97 xp went up by only 70lbs from the X4 and they added A LOT! I walked up to one, and it was a beast next to my little X4.

I am new to this forum but have had a XP since about 1990 and have had one of my 96 XP's since it was new....

I have a quick question that I have always wondered.... is the black removable thingy under the seat some kinda muffer?
Can/do you run it without it?

Also, have any of you had problems with small spider cracks in your upperdeck gel coat?
On the one I've had since new, there are a few spots where it is cracking... The ski been rode and jumped hard but newer hit anything or slammed into a dock parking.
One spot is from my head but most of them are above the rub rail and toward the rear.

One more thing... im thinking about selling the other ski which is in excellent shape except for the seat and handle bar cover <-- is asking $2K with a trailer too low? I saw someone say that you could make 2K parting it out but I dont want that hassle.
I want to sell this quick but most people think a 96 seadoo for $2K is about twice what it should be -- is craigslist the best bet?

Thanks for all your help

hey doc how did shimming your tabs work out?

Hi guys,

I finally got out to the water today. ('bout dam time) Anyway... the UMI top loader, along with shimming the tabs down made a HUGE difference!!

As I said before... with my weight, I was not able to get above 45 mph without the ski bouncing out of control. (with the trim down) Today... I was able to hold it wide open, with the trim in the center position. The ski would run flat, and perfect. Even after hitting a few waves, it would settle back into a flat run on it's own. With the big tabs on my ski... it was easier to slide in a wide, power on turn... so I think they need to be trimmed back like the R&D tabs.

Anyway... I was getting about 57 mph on the stock speedo.

The only problem now, is since I can hold the throttle open... I can feel a surge at high RPM's. So... I guess I'm going to have to clean the carbs, and replace the fuel lines. (I thought I was going to be able to get the rest of the season without doing it)

Felt good blowing off the shop, and going out to ride. I burnt about 20 gallons of fuel between the XP and my Genesis.

had to work on the gs today got both running like a champ.. few more trips this week tinkering with the jets and getting the grey lines replaced(yes still have them but not for long) got the corrosion on a few connections cleaned and had both running like a champ today. honestly thought id have to pull the xp limited out and redo carbs and lines to get it running right.. in the end getting it out on the water getting the battery end and mpem ends all cleaned and adjusting the jets after the carb rebuild/clean i was surprised how well it ran. low 50's on chop and following the boat i did hit 57 first real day its been on the water.. i am loving my seadoo's especially my xp limited.. few pics from the dock today doing a little service and getting ready for a day on the water

happy 4th to all enjoy ur day

yes it is a sound dampener. you can run with out it. it will not hurt anything.
Also, have any of you had problems with small spider cracks in your upperdeck gel coat?

i've not had this issue, someone else cuold chime in on this.

if it is really clean and in tip top shape 2k is alright for my area, most of them go for 1500 ish

awsome tony i'm glad for yah. it has been raining here everyday. and then when i have to work, its 90 degrees and sunny all freaking day.

its ok brother simi-parab's (xpl-s) are fun it there own right.

so what is the 98xpl considered than?
i put $20 in it today and all i can say is i must have rode it pretty hard cause i only got a little over half a tank of fuel now. thirsty bugger.
i do like the fact i can buy non ethonal fuel near the house. just gotta pay a little more.

Hey Guys,

Lets not be too hard on sc_shark. He's really got a couple of nice ski's, and the 98XP got a 951, probably can run away from anything we've got. Can't we take him into the cult as kinda an honorary member?

4 as much i had to tiner with the xpl yesterday i need something lol
i played with the low speed jet for about 45 minutes till it stopped popping and while riding... thank god i was able to get it to flat water...
than started on the high speed jet for about 30 minutes making short blasts to 7k
we had the boat out their and would tie up make adjustments on the fly and go back and see how it rode.. ended up checking/changing plugs twice on the water.

i know a bit of my problem is the factory grey carb/fuel lines and the fact i had some corrosion on my mpem we scuffed it up and got the battery terminals all cleaned up..

it ran like a champ the rest of the day... even surprised my dad..(he was driving the boat) ran side by side with him @40mph in a semi chop on the way back.. the palm beach has a mercury 225efi saltwater.. i told him lets go back to the flat area on the river and let me walk away from you...(he had 6 people in the boat)

i do see a few mods id like to do to my 951.. a upgraded ignition system and possibly reprogram the mpem should get me a solid 60-65mph on the flats.

Dr. Honda,

Are you still doing the graphics? If so I would like to get 3 and the tag letters to match just let me know how much. Same color as yours would be good.

Hey guys, Getting ready to order my top end kit and need a question answered. On the SBT web site they only have 787 RFI/ 800 RFI parts shown. I assume that RFI stands for fuel injected but my 96 XP is carburated. is it the same parts? Thanks.

Kyle

it says 787/800-rfi/rfi 800.
you fall under the 787 the parts should fit.

Thanks Scott. Thats what I thought but wanted to make sure. Also, I measured my cylinder yesterday and it is 83 mm/ 3.25 inches. I don't think that is standard but want to know how much over it is. I read somewhere on the forum that I need to order my top end kit first and then get the cylinders honed to match but don't know what size to order. Thanks.

Kyle

If it's exactly 83mm and you trust that measurement, then you're 1mm oversized. When you order the pistons, they should be .011mm narrower than the bore. If you want to get them bored, you need to get 1.25mm oversized (which I don't think SBT has, I believe they go straight up to a 1.5mm)
