I picked up another X4 last week. I needed it about like I need a hole in my head but I couldn't pass it up for the money. If the guy sends me the title like he said he was i'll put it together. If not i'll have to part it :( Good ole craigslist ad. "I have the title" and when I get there it was at his parents locked up.

Anyways a rave valve broke off and fell in the cylinder. Surprisingly it did not trash the head or the cylinder.... It chipped the edge of the piston some. That's just what I can see with the head off.

good ol raves... can always count on them to ruin a good day. I can't have a fleet of Rave-equipped vehicles anymore. Going to allow just ONE X4. The rest are goign to either be 4tec, or 720 and lower. I can't get these F'n things to NOT leak oil and melt those plastic pistons. YES, I replaced everything, YES I put them in correctly but after a few rides, you can guarantee problems. I think my jugs are worn out or something. What a dumb design... The X4 is the only one that's worth all the pain

I've only had 1 rave issue and that was on a GTX that my gf rode last year. The housing itself was wore out which let exhaust gas by and it melted the cap. Luckily I caught it before it broke off.

I can appreciate it...I feel the same way about 951 motors. Its not that you cant get it working correctly and last a long time, but all I see is cracked cases when I buy them.

But seriously...its really not that bad of an issue to resolve.

any one have any experience with big hub pumps on an x4 I picked up a big hub plastic pump with an 11/21 swirl how would it ride compared to my 16/23 solas ? or swapping impellers any thoughts

also my friend has a 2000 rfi 800 we have 2 brass pumps and 2 plastic big hub is ther any thing good about trying the brass one on his? we need to fix his up anyway.

Hi, I'm Bob. New to the forum, and except for a brief experience with a '92 XP 15 years ago (an expensive nightmare), fairly new to PWC ownership as well.

Since we moved out to the river a couple years ago, my oldest son (11) has been begging me for a jet ski. He had a little quad I bought him last year for Christmas that he never rode, so we decided to sell it and see if we could find a project ski with the proceeds. ($500).

I've been looking for a while and wasn't finding much in our budget that wasn't completely beat. This '96 SPX popped up on Craigslist a couple days ago, and I went and picked it up yesterday. It had sat for a while so the carbs need cleaned, and it basically needs the engine gone through. But it does have 150psi compression, and did fire on ether. It's in pretty good shape for the year. The gauges are clear and they work, as does the VTS. We came in under budget, and I've used the remainder to purchase new hoses, carb kits, etc.

I'll start the clean up this weekend. It looks like a good start.

This is an X4 hull, right?

I'm excited about getting this one cleaned up and reliable. I haven't ridden a ski since the old XP Blew up on me (twice) and swore I'd never own another. I'm a little more mechanically inclined now than I was back then, so hopefully will have better luck.

I've lots of reading to do here. So I'll just be over here in the corner.

that engine you have in there is a great 1. cheap and easy to maintain, should have just enough power for your kid. good find

Your kid is going to love you!! LOL Its a great ski and you stole it! That thing is in very nice shape. It is a X-4 hull, and the 720 is plenty of motor for a kid!

If you find you need anything for it let me know. I keep all the typical Resto parts in stock; carb kits, needle and seats, orings, VTS parts, etc.

You cannot interchange big hub and small hub impellers.

I have been told the stock GSX-RFI prop works good on the XP.

The only downfall is plastic pumps are not durable. One rock and they are usually toast.

No reason you cant put a brass pump on the RFI.

Your son is going to love you for this one!!! I love the 96 Spx. It has nice power, a blast to ride, and damn near bullet proof

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

I use to have a 95 xp, sold it for a gsx limited which was my favorite ski and upgraded to a RXP which is fast BUT gets boring after 20 mins. I am now selling that and hoping to find a 96xp or spx. The hull is so much fun and playful!
