SES Engines - My Experience

I have not been to the shop, but he's 100% legit.
I installed 2 of the engines he's rebuilt for me, and they both run amazing! (3rd is my spare as I have 3 951 skis)

I only have good things to say about my rebuilt engine. Paint could be a tad thicker, but that's just my OCD.

Both run great. One was having some hesitation issues I traced to a pin hole leak in a fuel line off the accelerator pump.

So, in recap, I will without hesitation use them again. However, (no offense!) I hope I don't have to. (as I prefer a working engine)

But if I pickup another project, they are #1 on my list to send it to.

I'm also getting SES to rebuild my 717 after my crank went bad, I'm sending it to Tom tomorrow. I've looked at both fullbore and SES, both seem real similar and legit, but SES had the fastest turnaround time.

I've read plenty of posts on here from people that seem to be real pleased with SES, so I feel like they're a good choice for my rebuild. Sabr you seem really pleased with you engines Tom has rebuilt for ya, and I was wondering if you had a chance to ride your skis yet?

I will also take any thoughts or sugestions on what I can do while the engine is out. Cleaning the hull and tanks out is on the agenda, but open to ideas anyone else has.

I've had my seadoo since '98 and have had 12 straight summers of riding, here's hoping I get another 12 years out of the rebuild.

I'm sure everyone will suggest replacing all the fuel lines if you still have the gray ones, and be sure to replace the oil lines especially the small lines off the injection pump. Filter changes are cheap insurance and the addittion of a automotive style clear fuel filter is a great idea. A great time to inspect and repair your pump assembly if necessary too. I had Tom do a 717 for me last fall and so far am very pleased with the engine, he was more than helpfull and made many suggestions about the SeaDoo in general. Good luck!

Just got mine back from them last Friday. Looks real good, hope to get it running soon. So far can't say anything negative about SES, other than the turnaround was over 4 weeks, but I was told that ahead of time.

So, is everyone still happy with SES motors if you don't consider turnaround time which isn't too important to me this late in the season. Looking for feedback on engine run quality and any problems folks are having. Thanks.

Turn around time is rather long.... that's my ONLY negative.

The 3 engines they have done for me all run 7k WOT (951s), start easy, and go like a stabbed rat.

Rebuilt engine runs dead on with a 951 with a factory 30 hours on it.

Anyone know when SES discounts their rebuild service for the "off season".
I'm waiting for the off season discount to send my 951 DI for rebuild.

dammmmm, whats the price on a DI rebuild ? i thought those dam near cost as much as the ski itself, aren't they like $1500 ?

I have one to send in as well for a rebuild, just waiting until they drop their prices for the off-season.

I just emailed SES. I emailed them in July and never got a response... so hoping they actually reply this time. I know that I could call, but I prefer to have conversations with service providers in writing so that nothing can be disputed later.

SES replied rather quickly this time. Here is what they said:
"we do not discount our prices actually the prices will be going up soon, because of the increases in our venders prices. we do shipping discounts and offer free shipping occasionally. right now the engine you are in need of has free round trip shipping a savings of $160.00 its over fri 10-12-2012 at 5:00 pm
Let me Know if you have anymore questions and feel free to call we prefer talking in person. 267-432-3169"

I must have been thinking of FullboreOnline.com, as they posted their offseason pricing effective Oct. 1 ($1499 for the 951DI)

I think there will be other discounts as well during the off season. When I bought my last motor it was free return shipping as well. Will wait til December or January and may send it in then.

In case anyone is interested... I called and talked to Tom @ SES this morning.
Decided to go with the Premium rebuild and placed my order.
I'll get the engine packed and shipped within the next week or two.
Hoping it will be 3-4 weeks turn around, but not knowing what kind of damage may be hiding in my lower case, it could be longer.
I'll report back in this tread as things progress... figure it will make it easier for folks searching for info on SES to have it all in this thread vs me starting my own.

Just thought I would chime in here I sent out my motor to him back in august and it took about a month to get it back. He had contacted me several times via phone to let me know the status. It took about a month or so to get it back but DAM! it looks fresh and was well worth the money. I had time today to get it in the ski today and it fired right up! then as i was moving things around I managed to brake the "T" fitting on the carb for the fuel inlet line so now I have to figure out what I am going to do to fix that before i go any farther. But i did run the engine for a couple mins prior to breaking this line

Great motor xp 951
Took about 4 weeks turnaround time
I bought the motor through ebay
He did contact me 3 times all of which by phone

Those t fittings come as a whole part for around $100. Or I can sell you a used one for $55 free ship. Send me a PM.

Update: My engine went to SES via UPS on Monday, Oct. 22. In an email from Tom 3 days ago he said "we are going to ship this one next week." If it is sent next week, then my turn-around will have been 7-8 weeks, depending on when in the week it goes out.

I guess I had better start cleaning out the engine bay, ordering new hoses, etc. :)

Hate to say it but their turnaround can be a bit long. But during winter it is not that big of an issue. Summer different story. I have 2 engines with Tom right now, been there for just about 3 weeks.

My 787 RFI engine arrived at SES on August 17. I was told 2 weeks ago that it was nearly done just waiting on some gaskets. Yours arrived over 2 Months later and it is shipping next week after 8 weeks???? WTF
If mine ships next week the turnaround will be about 16 weeks!

LOL man they are all over the board. At least their communication seems to be a little better.

Just FYI which may be part of the issue is WSM has a large warehouse in NJ that saw considerable damage from the storm. Not sure where SES is but they might have lost a few days of power.

They did lose power. They are in Pennsylvania.

And they prob use WSM parts...I had ordered some WSM parts around that time and it took two weeks when it usually takes two days.
