2001 GTX DI piston problem

Hi,,wondering if any body has problem with the PTO side piston getting scorded after running for 10 or 15 minutes. long story-- I bought this from a flipper-Jimmy Roberts from Wisc, beware of this guy and his wife on marketplace ,,he claimed he had recently rebuilt the motor and gave me a short warranty. back in 2021. him and him wife took the Facebook page down after I tried calling him. so I took it to EJR in Belivede Il. he said I needed to rebuild top and bottom. so I said go ahead ,that I just bought it and what else can I do, he took all summer , gave it back in Oct and said I ll have to bring it back for him to dial in the EMC for codes. I took it back the next spring, it then took him all summer again and said it was it needed a fuel pump, , he did it, for another 500.00. once again I got it back in Oct again and couldn't ride it, too cold again, then this May I tried to start it on a hose before I took it to the river, again, it wouldn't start good and if it did , would dye out in a few seconds, I called EJR, he said to bring it back again to see what's going on,, EJR called me again and said the back piston[PTO] side is 'galled' and needs another set of Wazzen pistons and clean cylinders AGAIN! he told me he sees oil in the cylinders and even added some Klotz oil to fuel. he said he's a engine builder and says everything he did is by the book.. he said he would not warranty or change the pistons again if it happens again and said I need to part it out with the rebuilt motor or buy all new electrical harness, ecm, sensors,ect.... and its an expensive electrical problem that's causing piston overheating and scoring.. so I wanted another option, cuz this sounds crazy to me. EJR said he went through all and cleaned fuel injectors, fuel lines, it has fuel and air pressure.. he says it has to be electrical problem. I then took it to another Sea-Doo pwc mechanic . Fox valley power sports in Lake in hills Il. he said it looks good/ok visually but noticed the fuel pump was a cheaper one and probably going out with low fuel pressure to the motor. so he changed the fuel pump again with a better one[like oem one? he said] another 500.00 bucks, they said this should do it, so he and I took it to the Fox, put it in the water, it took off about a minute and dyed out again. we got it idled back to the trailer. Fox Valley power sports , says he thinks the pistons and cylinders are not bored to proper specs with these new pistons.i don't know who to believe, and I'm over 6500.00 in a 3000.00 sea Doo. this has been going on from the day I back 3 years ago and have never riden it ...now way over budget and I cant spend anymore money on it, its a shame its in pretty good condition, anybody have any idea what it can be , ? or what I can try ..thanks for any thing that may help..

Cut your losses and walk away. There is no reasonable solution to this and do not throw any more money at it.

If it’s eating pistons it’s fuel and or oil related. Or idiot isn’t fitting or boring the cylinders correctly. Sounds like a scam artist.

And the guy is an idiot, you can’t premix or run klotz in a DI. I love klotz but not in a Seadoo.

ya, Fox valley told me the same thing about adding oil as a premix. oh man, not really what I wanted to hear, lol, but I appreciate your honest input.thanks!

If it is in fact Peter Rucinski at Gox Valley Powersports I’ve seen his name brought up maybe 50 times and every time it had been positive. Really to bad you hadn’t found him in the first place because he would have gotten you all fixed up properly the first time. From what I’ve heard he’s a real stand up guy, great reputation, really knows his stuff. Yea, that first guy you went to sounds like he really doesn’t know what he’s doing. What is he, an auto mechanic??

yes, i do know his name is Peter.i wish I had him look at it first too, the sad thing is I did go to Fox valley originaly when this first happened 3 years ago when I found out this machine was fried. so I was driving past Fox valley one day and stopped to ask them about this Sea-Doo situation, and I told him I probably schedule in ,but I needed to figure out what I should do,and scammer-Jimmy Roberts never got back to me. so the next day I called my brother in law who knows a little bit about different motors.diesel, sleds, ects... he said it I could check out his guy,EJR, he's his engine guy that does all his kids dirt bike engine rebuilds. and also he told me he does engine machine work for 2 or 3 sea Doo and snowmobile, pwc, dirt bikes,, on whatever they sell,,Dealers in Rockford areas. they sounded like the ideal shop at the time. ya, I totally regret not going back to Peter,, he is a stand up guy, he even went as far to call EJR after his test ride at the river. he believes EJR misdiagnosed and didnt do the correct repairs even after rebuilding the motor 3 years old. another funny thing is, EJR told me multiple times that he used to train people in Bombadier engine repairs!! ya , burtshaver, I'm totally bummed, this nightmare continues. I really don't know what more I can do without dumping a lot more money in...thanks for the info on Peter

Yes, I feel for you. If it makes you feel any better I bought a piece of crap 4x4 for 1400.00 that’s probably worth 700.00. EJR won’t accept any responsibility at all?

nope, he sticks with his story, the motors fine , but something electrical causing the piston frying. when its not showing any codes in ecm.?and he's done with it.. I totally regret using him.. sorry to hear about your truck , I guess there's A LOT of shady people out there waiting for their next victim ..

I'm so sorry to hear this, truly...

Just for conversation about burning up one cylinder - what about a bad injector? Say the injector is clogged, leans the fuel, cylinder runs hot and that's the end of it.

Sure, wiring can fail, but odds are equally good to purchase a winning lottery ticket.

ya, EJR said he had the whole fuel system apart and cleaned the injecters multiple times.. he says a lot of things, like he knows it was used in salt water,ect.. to deflect the problem causing this whole thing, and blaming electrical system, he said he had his other dealer mechanic swap the ecm, the dealer said the swap didn't help or change anything. sonot the bad ecm? I don't know what to think, he changed the tps, 2 fuel pumps, cleaned fuel rail/injecters and fuel lines.and has good air and fuel pressures.i think your right, its probably not a harness. he says he doesn't know where to start checking because there's no codes coming up. which I would then think, no codes?, then all should be operating properly. so that's why Fox valley PS, thinks they didn't bore it correctly.so confused now and out of money to spend on it to have to start all over checking the cylinders/piston clearances.

Anything can be fixed. I'd check the inlet port for the oil pump on that cylinder. It is a check valve and that is one of my first checks when I get rebuilt engines back from SES. :D If that valve is not working (plugged or not holding a bit if pressure) the cylinder won't get the proper amount of oil. Also a vacuum leak on the crank seal will do a nice job of melting a piston. I complain but I love identifying the root cause. :D I've had some doozies !! These skis are sneaky.
