Thanks guys. Really appreciate it. If no special tools required, I will use dramel tool with a sand paper roll head to taper the opening a little. That will be after my vacation. Or I will use sand paper and take my time to get it tapered.

OK, back from the real summer! Was an amazing trip. Everyone said will go back for sure.

managed to file the hole down and get the bearings back in, and tapped the impeller shaft through, installed the cone doing the leak test now. The shaft is tight but can still be turned by hand.

Using the thinner o-ring right now. The pressure is dropping from 11psi to 9psi in 10 minutes, but I don't know if it is the air compressor. I don't have a way to pinch the hose to isolate the air. I just run the compressor until the pressure reach 11 psi and shut off the power. Not sure if the air compressor is leaking a little.

I will test the air compressor alone to see if there is a leak. if there is no leak, I will switch to the fat O-ring and retest.

Well, there is still a little bit leak with the thinker O-Ring, dropped 0.5PSI in 20 minutes.
I am going to put everything back and water test for a couple of hours and check the oil again.

Use the smaller o-ring and some 518 on the flange to seal it up overnight and test it tomorrow, should be good to go.

Beach pics from Cuba!? The scenery had to be fantastic...

I must have reinstalled the cone at least 5 times tonight. Too much fun :-D

I put the gasket maker on, and did the final. Do a leak test in the morning, then fill the oil and do water test hopefully Wed or Thursday.

Now into Sept, getting busy quickly. There is potential customer wanted us to design toys for them, which is my dream project. They want something running on the desk and controlled by iPhone. It will be interesting.

I hope everything will back to normal after this pump fix, so that I can plan a couple of fishing trips in Sept to call the season.

Wow, those are stunning shots you posted of the vacation scenery. To bad it's still ruled by a Communist party, free enterprise and it's proximity to the States would inject a small fortune into that place.

We need to get out on the water here for a day or two this week before the cold get's to us, won't be long now before the anti-freeze comes out and we put them away till next spring.

China and Russia both are ruled by communist parties as well but last I checked we weren't banned from travel to these countries?

If they force an embargo on China, where will we get all our stuff? Wally Mart would go out of business, there will be no Eye phone, or eye pad. No cellular phones. No Made in China parts for our sport/hobby.

Corporate America would ruin it with big gambling resorts, not to mention all those water parks, entertainment centers like Universal Studio, Disney, etc, etc.

Pump is back on my boat. Started ok. Yeah. Waiting for good weather again :-D

I guess I would bump up cost for playing with boat: $1000 for normal fixes. Another $1000 for learning lessons:-D

You and I can go visit Cuba anytime these days, but the caveat is that we have to do it through a State Dept. approved travel program/agency that's designed with a firm itinerary of cultural "education and sharing" while we're there.

In other words while Mr. P here is on the beach with a cold one getting a foot massage were stuck on the back of a donkey cart touring some coffee bean grove on the side of mountain while our keeper watches over us and makes sure were having no fun at all while we sweat like slaves.

Both have the tube bump. I pointed difference in my screen shot.

Ok. Tested my teeth tonight. The original Venturi is really in a bad shape, fins are chipping away ...
So I "bit" the bump off and fit the nicer one in :-D

Tested water today. Just got back. 16Km @ 5500RPM. Everything was good. 2000 to 3000 still drops if I push slowly. I will take apart the jet pump tonight to do an inspection.

I was fogging the engine last night. But when I spray the oil into the carbs, I didn't see a lot of white smoke coming out. I don't think the oil went in. I only crack open the air silencer and put the plastic tube in the carb and sprayed for 5 sec on each.
But The engine sound did change when I was spraying (sounded run stronger). So oil did go in?

Another thing: the PTO piston has some brown burning mark under the both rings. MAG doesn't have the same mark. Is it normal, or PTO is too lean?
The spark plugs looked same. The RAVE's looked same.

Oil is blue smoke so you were looking for the wrong color (water vapor is white smoke). If you remove the plugs and they are wet with oil then it was well fogged.

The brown stain you see is likely decomposed oil caused from blowby gasses leaking past the rings, I can't say I've ever seen a 2-stroke that didn't have at least some of this but one thing that may hasten the oil deposits can happen if the rings are hanging on the sharp port edges if the chamfer is inadequate.

It might be interesting to see the inside of the cylinders by removing the head to see if there are signs of scoring above/below the ports.

I bet it spins free like a top now! :) I would probably just use a dip stick in the oil fill hole to look for contamination.

I always see white smoke when I test run engine before heading out. Never seen blue smoke.
I did remove the plugs to check oil, but it is same before and after fogging. So I guess, I didn't fog it right then, or not long enough, or not the right angle.

I will take the better story and be happy :-)

You are not suggesting a head opening, this year?? :-D

Ok I will just do the dipping first to see what is in there first. Or just syringe to suck some out?

I was going to take the impeller draft things apart again to check the oil, bearing location/condition.
But probably it is unnecessary as you would say :-)

Murphy's law seems to love your boat more than mine lately but I'd just dip a stick and see, maybe right after running 30 seconds to stir the oil.

Oil smoke is blue tinted, not actually white like water vapor, I think the white oil smoke you see is actually blue. The reason this is important is b/c sometimes water can enter the cylinder thus color identification is important and not a subjective subtlety.

Wet oily plugs means there definitely is oil throughout, dry plugs are not convincing.

Yes, preventative brain surgery! :)
