The PO was an unfriendly with the Armor All and some kind of acid wash to the gelcoat, yikes!!!

For some reason acid wash has become common place at the lake in my area. Any marina will do it for you, I don't get it.....

I do need to have it professionally detailed. I`m not skilled nor have the patience to properly prep/wax the boat...

I used to think the same thing about myself. However, I found that with Chemical Guys foam pads on a DA buffer, it is a pretty quick and easy job. Hardest part for me is to resist putting too much pressure on the buffer. Heck, my 8 year old is even pretty good at it. :)

If your buffer can take it, LAY INTO IT, it's not like paint Gelcoat is very forgiving, I use a wool pad, and use the foams for polish and wax only.

I've found that if I put a lot of pressure with a wool or foam cutting pad, that it makes the surface slightly irregular. I'm not talking about gouges or swirls, but rather, that the gel doesn't seem to erode perfectly uniformly... which means that more time is needed to smooth it out with polishing and buffing. And I'm talking about very, very slight irregularity that you can't really see unless you look at it from a foot away or less, and at an angle.

Lookin good. Im jealous...i got about 40 hours of working on the boat before im water ready. I dont have the patience to buff out a car either but it really is easy on the boats. The gel can take a beating and you can do a fairly good job buffing it out even a a novice.

Great Job Andy!! The engines seem to run really smooth.
I'm still 2 weeks out from the first 2013 boat test.

I don't know if it's the same down there with Insurance , but there have been a huge
amount of people displaced from their homes in Northern , Ontario , because of flooding !!
I have been told Insurance is not covering these homes , if it is the same down there ,
you may not see a lot of docks for a while !!

Guest_User, quick question, I received the OEM "thick"gaskets. Is there a right or wrong way to put them on? I assumed green side towards the carb, but you put green side towards the rotary valve cover. What was your logic for doing that? I did not see anything in the service manual.
Thanks
