RESTO 1997 Seadoo Spx Restore/ Rebuild

Status
Not open for further replies.
Well last night I tore into the Carbs, there was no way of just testing them since I haven't had an engine in it yet, so I just decided to rebuild them and save me the headache later (if I get'em right the first time haha) Heres a quick pic of everything as they sit at the moment just tore them all down and sprayed some carb cleaner through all the passages and jets and everything is clear with no blockages. I'll get some more pics during the rebuild, feel free to shoot any pointers and tips my way!

Ok, so while I'm getting the carbs done and everything, I still have to remove some more of the internal components from my hull so I can clean in on the inside...... When I bought it, it was totally clean and dry on the inside, no oil or anything on the bottom, well all that changed when i started pulling the lines, exhaust, and engine out. The entire exhaust was filled with water and emptied itself all over when I pulled it out. Along with that, there was oil in the oil tank and when i pulled the lines off, I wasn't as prepared as I should have been, and all that oil gladly found its way down to chill out in the water.:svengo: So i want the inside to look and be as clean as possible before reassembly. Heres my mess......

Yea, oily messes suck. Get some simple green and a pressure washer and you should be back to spick/span in no time.

Thats a greater than sign. Superclean is better and I agree.

Oops! I was thinking it was like a process indicator arrow, Like used superclean then use simple green with a result being better or 110% haha Well Ill get my hands on some either way! I've got a pretty ambitious goal of getting it running by this upcoming wednesday, we'll see how many setbacks will try to stop me

Yup I have used simple green on my first ski and it didn't hardly take any stains away and then tried super clean because everyone recommended it and it was night and day better than simple green, although its probably not as Eco friendly lol. Also be sure to wear gloves when working with super clean it will mess your hands up like bleach does its some stong stuff. Buy the concentrate not the prediluted stuff

Thanks for the advice!! I'll make sure I get some super clean in the concentrated form. Hopefully it hasn't stained to bad already, I used an oil suction pump to remove as much as I could so it would reduce splashing as much as possible when I trasported it.

Ok well, I didnt snap any pictures today but I've removed all of the electrical from the hull today to prep it for pressure washing. Also while I was in there, I installed a new fuel-cock as well as all new fuel lines to replace the old grey ones. As soon as the pressure washing is done I will be good to go and start installing everything

Well spent 2 hours at the car wash with some quarters and a gallon of superclean! Found a local car wash that has a super hot water and soap option and that worked miracles on the outside and inside, what it couldn't handle the super clean did! Heres some before and after shots:cheers: There was some minor debris in the clean photos, but I got that out too!

More continued.....the color was brought back from the hot water/soap from the car wash, it did loose a little of the color when it cooled, but I was very happy with the results!

Superclean on the yellow hatch brought back the color??

No, actually the color was brought back by the hot water at the carwash, it also removed all that crap that was on it......once it dried it doesn't look as good as it does in the pic, some of the white wash came back, but it looks soo much better than it did.

Looking good, you can use a heat gun to remelt the plastic on the hood to bring back the color, Jetskigoodies buffs them back, and Minnetonka4me uses a scotch brite pad IIRC.

racerxxx is right I use this method found in this link

http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?48028-How-to-clean-your-sun-faded-hood-cover-w-pictures

And Minnetonka4me uses a scrothbrite and softscrub with bleach.

For the exterior I would usually just say to buff it but the white is a PITA to get clean so I wetsand it and then buff it out as seen in these links

This thread has a few tips on wetsanding

Hey stove just scrub the front yellow hood with some scotchbright green pads and soft scrub spray with bleach! It will make it look like new, trust me a cheap fix... The pads and spray sells at any supermarket. Do one half and then step back and admire the results!;)

And as of today everything is up to date with accordance to tx parks and wildlife, I've payed all my legal dues to the state and she's completely legal to take to the lake!! Maybe ill take it for a celebratory floating (since the engine isnt in yet haha) Thanks for the advice and comments so far! Ill keep you updated as soon as more progress is made!

+1. I use to be a big simple green guy.

I love the build threads with before and after pics, keep them coming.

I used soft scrub with bleach and steel wool on a yellow hood and it came out great.

I'm too excited at work today, I'm buggin outta the shop for a lunch today (usually i just work straight through) just to go pick up some cleaning supplies for the hull and the hood! Thanks again for all the great info! Y'all have no idea how much I appreciate it!!:hurray::hurray:
