Circus claims vodka saves elephants in Siberia

MOSCOW — Circus trainers claim two of their elephants were saved from the deadly Siberian cold by vodka.

Emergency ministry spokesman Alexander Davydov said Friday that the elephants were in a trailer that caught fire Thursday outside the city of Novosibirsk, forcing trainers to take them out into the bitter cold before another truck arrived to deliver them to a warm gym at a local community college.

The Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reported that trainer Leonid Labo had the animals, aged 45 and 48, drink 10 liters (2.6 gallons) of vodka diluted in warm water — and a veterinarian said later that only the tips of their ears were frostbitten.

Although scientists say that alcohol can make humans feel warmer but actually lowers their core body temperature, Novosibisk zoo director Rostislav Shilo told the daily that the vodka saved the animals from frostbite and pneumonia, without harming or even intoxicating them.

Maybe the secret is to drink booze mixed with warm water......of course i wouldn't recommend drinking 10 liters of it..... :)

Roommate Killed over Pork Chop Preparation

The roommate killed over pork chop preparation has been identified as 35-year-old Robert Gray of May Avenue in Holly Hill, Fla.

Florida resident Thomas Matthew Hahn, Jr., 55, allegedly shot and killed his roommate over pork chop cooking methods. Hahn and two other roommates were reportedly in the home when Gray arrived at approximately 10 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2012. Hahn was in the process of cooking dinner.

Inexplicably, Gray and Hahn began to argue over how to cook pork chops. Hahn retreated to his bedroom and returned with a .22-caliber Ruger rifle. He fired three rounds, shooting Gray in the head twice. Gray died instantly from the gunfire.

WFTV reported that when police officers responded to the scene following a 911 call, they discovered the lifeless body of Robert Gray in the living room with the suspect Thomas Matthew Hahn, Jr. sitting in a chair near the roommate killed over pork chop preparation. Police arrested the suspect who was charged with one count of second-degree murder, Hahn is being held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail. He may face additional charges.

Police in Holly Hill, where the incident took place, have not yet determined whether alcohol was a factor in the senseless death. WESH reported that the suspect claimed he acted ". . . in self-defense, but police said the evidence suggests otherwise."

GM recalls Colorado and Canyon pickup trucks to fix problem with hoods

DETROIT — General Motors is recalling more than 145,000 pickup trucks because the hoods can fly open unexpectedly and block the driver's vision.
The recall affects Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks from the 2010 through 2012 model years. Most of the trucks were sold in North America.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says some of the trucks may not have a secondary hood latch. If the main latch isn't fastened, the hoods can open while the trucks are in motion.
GM said Thursday that it doesn't know of any crashes or injuries caused by the problem. The automaker traced the problem to a parts supplier after getting four reports of trucks with missing secondary latches.

Owners will have the option of checking the hoods for the secondary latch or taking it to a dealer. If there's no secondary latch, GM will replace the hoods free of charge.
The recall includes 118,800 trucks in the U.S., 15,264 in Canada, 7,492 in Mexico and just over 4,000 in other countries, GM said in a statement. Owners are expected to get recall notices in the mail starting next month.

Man accused of regifting stolen Christmas presents
Stolen fan also found installed in man's home, police say
Published On: Dec 28 2012 11:06:52 AM EST

An Illinois man is accused of doing his Christmas shopping in other people's homes.

Gregory G. Cook of Cicero, Ill., stole Christmas gifts when he burglarized two homes, and police found several of those gifts rewrapped in Cook's home when they arrested him, police told the Chicago Tribune.

Police told the paper they also found a stolen ceiling fan installed in Cook's bedroom.

Not all of the stolen gifts were worthy of regifting, though. Police said video surveillance showed Cook returning some of the stolen merchandise at stores and purchasing other items with stolen credit cards, according to the Sun-Times Media Wire.

Cook was charged with two counts of burglary. He has eight prior burglary convictions, according to the Chicago Tribune and the Sun-Times Media Wire

Back in the day I was a Courier and I was just buzzing along on a 30mph road when I looked over; there was a e-mom or whatever with the full face mask covering everything. She looked over at me and at that moment the hood flipped up on her POS accord and shattered the windshield. I am proud to admit I slightly wet myself laughing.

That's serious stuff. Do you think she was prepared for it or just plain ugly?....OK sorry for that comment. :)

SDB, I need your help

SDB,
This is your friend Jake. I need your help. I was using my RIGID drill that I got for Xmas to install a fireplace insert and I got a terrible burn on my hand. I took a few swigs of vodka to kill the pain and then jumped in my truck and raced off toward the hospital but the hood flew open on the truck and I wrecked. Turns out that the wife stole the drill from under the neighbors tree and got arrested while I was at the hospital. I need $500 to post her bail. I really need your help on this so please wire $500 to my paypal account.

Ketchup on cheesesteak request causes ruckus

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A customer's request to put ketchup on a Philly cheese steak caused a ruckus in an Orlando Subway shop.
Sandwich maker Lawrence Ordone told customer Luis Martinez that Subway doesn't have ketchup when the order was placed on New Year's night. There are differing accounts on what happened next, but Orlando television station WFTV (http://bit.ly/10YezGf ) reports Ordone lost his job.
Ordone says he told the customer he's "never put ketchup on anybody's sandwich." He says Martinez got "mouthy." Martinez denies that, but Ordone admits he flew off the handle at that point.

WFTV reports Ordone shoved a chair to the side and told Martinez "fight me like a man."
Martinez called 911. Ordone left the building. No one was arrested. But now Ordone is looking for a new job.

Utah city renames street due to sexual connotation

LEHI, Utah — The Lehi City Council has renamed Morning Glory Road after a technology company planning to relocate to the street raised concerns about the name's sexual connotation.
Council members in the city about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City voted unanimously last month to change the name to Morning Vista Road.

Minutes from the meeting show that Xactware Solutions Inc., which provides software for the insurance industry, asked for the name change so that the road would fit with its "international corporate image."

"Morning glory" is the name of a flower and part of the title of a popular 1990s song from British rock band Oasis. But the term is sometimes used to describe male arousal.
Councilman Johnny Revill, who moved to approve the resolution at the Dec. 11 meeting, told the Salt Lake Tribune that he didn't know about the term's slang meaning previously but was happy to appease Xactware officials.
"That name has a negative meaning for some reason," Revill said. "When you use the word, there is a different meaning that can be taken from that."
Councilor Mark Johnson told the Daily Herald that he only knows of the noxious weed called Morning Glory that is difficult to control, but he also voted in favor of the resolution. Johnson said Lehi doesn't like to change street names, but it does in some cases to "honor people or organizations."
The street name was a red flag for Xactware officials when they began considering moving their company's headquarters from Orem to Lehi's Traverse Mountain, said Jonathan Gardner, commercial venture project director for the planned community.

The company was worried that the sexual connotation of morning glory would become too prominent in the minds of prospective clients, Gardner said. Morning Glory is far from an R-rated word in most of America. It is the name of a 2010 Hollywood film starring Rachel McAdams as an upbeat television producer trying to revive a struggling morning show. That movie is rated PG-13.

In the popular 1960s TV show "Bewitched," the family lived at 1164 Morning Glory Circle.

Morning Glory is also the name of a small community near El Paso, Texas.

Xactware went "a little overboard," in requesting the street name change, said Lehi resident Emily Scanlon. She said she has never thought of the sexual connotation in her four years driving past the road.
Lehi, with a population of about 48,000 people, is named after a prophet in the Book of Mormon and is the former home of the Brown family that stars in the reality TV series, "Sister Wives." Kody Brown moved his wives and 16 children from Lehi to the Las Vegas area in January 2011 after Utah authorities began a bigamy investigation.

I suppose that they want to change WOODY Woodpecker's name too......:)

When the shark entered the surf zone early Tuesday morning at Jacksonville Beach, about 200 yards offshore, the research group contacted Jacksonville Beach police and notified them of the shark's presence. There were no swimmers in the area at the time of the report.

At midday Tuesday, the shark was tracked about 15 miles offshore.
The group also advised police of another great white named Genie, which was tagged off of Cape Cod and has moved about 40 to 60 miles off the coast of Jacksonville.

For any tracking information regarding the sharks, go to OCEARCH's website or Facebook page.
Due to the size of the shark and the potential dangers, police are recommending that beachgoers stay out of the water until the shark leaves the area.

Fla. man arrested for giving people wedgies
Man recorded pranks for YouTube videos
Published On: Jan 15 2013 11:43:51 AM EST

BRADENTON, Fla. -

An 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly giving wedgies to people outside of a movie theater.

Bradenton Police arrested Charles Ross on Sunday. A police report says Ross likes to video pranks and is known for harassing and annoying people in Manatee County then putting the footage on YouTube, similar to a "Jackass"-style show. One of his recent videos -- of Ross kissing strangers -- has gotten nearly 400,000 views.

Police say Ross grabbed people by the back of the pants and pulled them up, hard. Several victims said they were too embarrassed to press charges.

Ross was booked into the Manatee County Jail on battery charges and was released Monday on a $750 bond. It is not yet known whether he has retained an attorney.

Giant goldfish caught in Lake St. Clair, Michigan

Mike Martin catches giant goldfish

Fisherman catches giant goldfish.
A giant goldfish was caught in Lake St. Clair last Friday.
Mike Martin loves to fish. He has been fishing for 20 years. "First one I've ever caught and I fish it religiously," said Martin.

"We see them all the time but, to actually catch them is rare," he said. "Everybody wants to just dump them off their seawall and let them be free and this is what they turn into."
The fish was over 3 pounds and nearly 15 inches long. Martin caught it while ice fishing for Perch.

He says he thought it was just a big perch on the line before he saw what it really was. "Definitely not a perch," he said.

Martin says he called his father after the catch "I didn't know what to do with it, what do you do with a goldfish?"

His father told him to put it in a bucket and take it home.

Martin says he called the DNR to see what the state record is, but hasn't heard back yet.

"This will probably be the only one I ever catch so he's going to go on the wall," said Martin.
