What is your tow rig?

my 99 Eclipse GSX with a Class 1 Drawtite on it. I bought it with it already on there so I want to put it to use. The previous owner put it on there to haul bicycles. I just bought a 6x10 trailer to haul my snowmobile and now I'm looking for some waverunners.

I love those eclipses if I was going to buy one it would have to be the 99 and a gsx.. I tow my ski with a full size bronco.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but...

I got a 2000 Islandia(single 240EFI Mercury) last year and am currently fixing it up. I was originally looking at the Traverse because it has a towing capacity of 5200lbs. Manual says dry weight is 3100lbs+ trailer ~1000lbs + 55gal gas~440lbs(of course I won't generally drive full) + 3 gal oil~25lbs +20gal water160lbs + battery ~100lbs? My math adds up to 4825lbs, but that is before anchors, life jackets, etc. I think that would be pushing the upper limits of 5200lbs. I have also gotten mixed reviews on whether or not the V6 that it has would be capable of a long haul trip of which I will do occasionally. I will be towing less than 5% of the time with this vehicle, but when I do I want to know the vehicle can handle it.

It'll be my wife's vehicle and she wants to have a third row, so trucks are out, and we also need a roof rack because we don't plan on giving up our canoe trips.

The two questions I have are:

What towing capacity do I need?

and

Does anybody have any CUV/SUV suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeep Grand Cherokee has high towing...

For a mid-size SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (w/ Hemi) has about 8500lb towing...

I tow a Utopia 205 with trailer and 'stuff'...probably 4500 lbs and I don't even feel it.

Check out the Jeep!

Cherokee

We'll look into the Jeep Cherokee. That's quite a bit of towing capacity for a mid sized SUV. I like the sound of my vehicle not struggling.

LOL... I wish we had some of the cars you Aussie have here in America.

Holden Monaro and Ford Falcon to name a few. And i'm not talking about the land yacht from the 60's. The Aussie Ford Falcon with the GT-42r turbo that can be tuned up to 600HP with just a re-tune of the computer.

My Rig!

Hey guys i'm new on here. I usually pull our rig with a 2008 Mega cab Hemi or a 2007 Ford F-250 diesel with no problems! Bought this trailer for a $1000 dollars last year and have been fixing it up ever since.

Tow Rig!

Hey thanks! My brother and I have been working on it for awhile now. We wanted to do like a wakeboard rack theme on it. So we put the speakers on there and the boards go on the side. Also, there is a cd player in the red tool box which is water proof. Tell me what you think about that idea. Does it look good on there or just to much?

More Jet Ski Trailer Pics

Here is a picture of the trailer before we put the skis back on it

I'm using a 2009 Tacoma X-Runner.

Great truck for those like me who doesn't like trucks. This thing really drives like a sportscar, sticks in corner like you can't even imagine!

missing horsepower unfortunately. Dr. TRD has the solution but it costs 5000$

SC that thing and you have a truck that handles as good a a 350Z and much faster than any stock Z out there, truck is nice how does it do towing?

It does quite well actually. The engine has so much low-end torque it could pull a house. As far as the suspension, well, it's a sport truck with a sport suspension with low travel. When you tow something heavy and hit a big bump, it'll tell you. The truck is rated to tow 3500lbs and it can do it without any problems. For my job i have to pull a 5X8 closed trailer, that's why I bought this truck.

Yes the supercharger is a nice unit, but it costs 5000$ here (installed) and I find the gains are to low for the price. If you really want power on this truck, you need to go aftermarket.

I hope the next gen tacoma will have the 4.6 litre V8.
