As above....

The silicon is not factory. When you put it back together... you just want a little dab around the cooling, and bailing tubes. (and that's it) I always buy a gasket. Neoprene gasket material isn't easy to find... and they are only about $6 at the dealer. I always buy a few to keep around.

Also, as above... the silver washers are your shims. They need to stay there... and in the same position to keep your pump aligned.

The spark plugs are only around 25 Lb/ft of torque. BUT... we have plugs that have a crush seal on them. SO... a new set of plugs... you make contact, and then turn them 1/2 revolution. (that's it)

so been helped out by you guys with ideas and info so i thought i would share the video i made yesterday when my dad and i took the new to us 96 xp out for its first ride since we bought it. let me tell you having only ridden a 96 gts before today i actually got scared for the first couple of minutes. still got to get use to it to be comfortable but let me tell you im in love with going fast like that and the turning is unbeleivable... but i dont need to preach to you guys. so enjoy the simple video i threw together.

As always, Thank you Tony. I believe the NGK 8s im using does have that crush seal and thats probably where the weird sensation was coming from when turning them.

maiden voyage of my newly refurbished 96 xp today..... WOW WHAT A RUSH..... talk about cuttin corners. think i left a couple of brown logs floatin on the lake ....that was fun. couple bugs to work out but this is a fun ski....

I just did the pump on my 96 XP and mine did not have any washers to align the pump like the one above. Does it vary on each individual ski?

My xp has that black silicone stuff too and its making it extremely difficult to pull off. Any tips for making it easier to get it off?

I used a come along with rope tide evenly on the pump, mine was really on there. Next time i do it I'm going to do something similar to what kustomkarl says here http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?20587-how-to-change-WEAR-RING&highlight=change+WEAR+RING

yes it does.

Thanks for the peace of mind. I took it out today with the new wear ring and skat trak swirl. It felt like a completely different machine from the mid to high rpms but if you nail it from a stand still it feels like it has cavitation. I didn't replace the carbon ring when I pulled the pump so I'm going to check that tomorrow.

Whiskey if you increase tension on your accordion boot it will likely stop your slight cavitation. Loosen the rear clamp and move the boot forward about 1/2". Tighten the clamp back up and your seal will be pushed tighter into the SS drive shaft ring. Try this before you yank your pump off, It keeps working for me.

ok when i did my engine swap yesterday the carbon wear ring had some grooves in it, so i took it and sanded it flat with a piece of sand paper on a flat block of wood. still had a couple scratches in it. could that be letting air in still. im getting a small bit of cavitation out of the hole? gonna try moving the boot forward too. also are there supposed to be o-rings around the bailer lines where the pump meets the hull? or just silicone. i siliconed mine but am still getting water in the hull when it is just sitting in the water. gonna have to pull the pump and re seal it again

The bailer o-rings are between the pump and reduction nozzle. There should only be the right silicone on the thru-hull spot where the three holes are. You should have a neoprene ring (circle shaped, adhesive on one side) to seal the pump itself.

could someone tell me where the 7.5 amp fuse and 5 amp fuses are located (testing my vts).
Thanks Guys!

got the pump off, i took rope and ran it through the two top holes and tied it then took a prybar and pushed it against the rub rail and it came right off :D

Is that right in front of the battery? Since I took that that out and all I saw was the stator or coil (dont know whats its called) and then just ground wires and stuff. I didnt see any fuses.

there are two of them in there next to the coil. they got little water proof covers on them.

Epic ride this weekend....

Hey guys, does anyone have an MSD enhancer on their XP? I have one for a 95 XP 800, but I pulled out the wires from the 6-pin connector and forgot how they go back in. Could anyone take a picture of their connector so I can put mine back together correctly? THANKS!!!

NICE !
nice shots of great air nick ! very agressive riding, helps to show exactly what the x4's are capable of (and also why you have an extra 3" of padding on the handlebars !)

LOL yup thats my bros protection. I perfer to look good and keep my UMI exposed...my princess brother on the otherhand would rather save his face......lolol I'm visiting my bro in Austin and riding one of his. The one with the number plates is a superstock....crazy modded.

We dont just sell parts....we live, breath, and support the sport!

unfortuately Tim....thats the goodstuff out of that boat. We hit a few other boats but the camera didnt turn on. Those damn gopros...they should make a switch instead of a button so you know they are on by feel.

The pads are memory foam pillows secured with.....duct tape....lol We havent yet been able to talk Gary at Jet Trim into making covers for them.

Oh and take note of the seat on the 99 when I fall off ( and a passing boat is cheering...lol) its a sick one off seat my brother bought and brought back to life over the winter! It actually sucks air out of the engine compartment and passes it out of the back underside of the seat. Gary took it on as a personal project over the winter and although expensive...he is a master at his trade and it turned out amazing. No illegal mexicans making seat covers in his shop....lol

Also...he covered the air duct with frogskin to keep water from coming in when bobbering it underwater.

HELL YEAH man, looks like a fun time. I hope to take some vids this summer using my brother's gopro. Back in highschool my family had a '96XP and I have been wanting to get another X4 since.

I purchased my cherry '98spx off ebay at the end of march or $2k, pulled a 23hr round trip from Jersey shore to Charlotte NC with the pregnant wife and the dog for company :) 69hr freshwater ski, fairly mint. I had to fix the fuel sender 'fuse' to get the fuel gauge to work, torched the faded rub rails, and got a '94? XP tach off ebay and wired that to the unused center gauge location. Added one of those $15 ebay hour meters. Oh, also remachined/installed a Blowson trigger throttle. Went out for the first time last Sunday and to my dismay it was crazy rich over idle. Ended up being a mouse nest in my OEM airbox haha. I swear I checked everything, looked in all the electrical boxes (was in there anyway to do the tach install), vts housing, coil box, etc (and it all looked brand new!) but never took off that damn airbox! Anyway, all was well, ski rocks. I'm tickled pink as they say. Added another few hours to the total! Like porkroll and Speedbuggy, I ride mostly in the barneget bay, sometimes though in the delaware (I'm about 5 min from a ramp but there's always logs floating in it) and if I feel like a drive for some smooth water, the Mullica River.

What hood is that on the ski you are riding? I need all 3 gauge locations but want no mirrors...just like yours.

Oh, a pic from the ebay auction.
