If I cared I wouldn't have posted it. It looks great and that's the bottom line. I tried to restore the original... I tried every product imaginable and scrubbed it plenty. It wasn't happening. I could see your point if I took a nice cover and painted it, but that was not the case. If you want to blame someone, blame the previous owner who buried it under a cover which bled it's covers onto the original cover. My ski doesn't sit in a museum so I didn't see the point of keeping on a ruined cover just because it's original.

Don't let them get to you. I went through the same thing. Looks good and way less $$$$, worst case is you have to buy a new cover

I'll leave the hump seats at this..............you guys don't have to worry about finding a needle in the hay stack when you're building a ski, you can choose from several MFG's and just recover it, those of us that restore them to original.....we can't. Those of us that do, don't like seeing a usable seat cover going to waste. I know it's cheaper to keep your cover or do what ever but to us guys who want the original like to keep the originals. I offered him a 1/3 of what he paid for the entire seat, not once did I get a PM saying how about $XX.XX for it instead.(see posts #4252 to #4275). I thought I was on the right path, he even said he'd keep us posted on what he was going to do. Then BAM.......rattle can! As well as your seat cover GLS, I mentioned I was interested in it, next thing I see you used the flap to help pull the seam in on your BT seat cover. A PM to me with your idea could have saved that cover and I would have copied the flap off of my NOS seat cover and mailed that to you. I don't care about a stain or discolorization on the covers, I really don't want to ride on my mint hump seat, his cover would have been perfect for me to use as a ride-able seat. In the end it is your seat and your ski so do as you please, just next time try and see the project from our perspective on finding a harder and harder piece to obtain.

In all honesty I see your point of view, and I'm sorry I didn't get back to you on the offer. I thought it was a little low just for the hassle of having to pull it off and get it shipped. On top of that I really wanted to paint it to see how it would turn out. It wasn't really about money for me. I actually like the look of a single solid color over the fancy after market covers, and you can't beat the fit of the oem cover. Plus, I like doing things myself and seeing how it will turn out. I can take some pride using this seat this summer knowing I took a pretty shitty looking seat and turned it into something cool looking. That's my point of view on it. And I did keep you posted on what I decided to do. If I wanted to I could have just disappeared and never mentioned anything about it.

wow what a bunch of $%#&@ in here, i will be sure to post some pics of my yellow hump seat before i put new cover on, but i will be sure to spray paint it before it gets the jet trim.

next time if you want the cover that bad, at least offer the guy a price he can replace it with, like give him a jet trim cover, he gives you a stock cover.

supply/demand usually means the things with more supply and less demand (jettrim) will be cheaper, things with lower supply and more demand (stock cover) will be more expensive

so don't kick him in the nuts offering $25 and then gang up on him after the fact. he saved over $100, should pat him on the back not kick him in the nuts

Yeah a bunch of %$^#@ that tell you what's wrong with your ski all for free to save you countless dollars. The nerve of some people.......

sorry but reading the replies to him, thats the way it comes off. sorry if i offend, i just was shocked to see him catch so much flack for it. the guy bought it with his money and didn't feel anyone made an offer worth his time, no reason to be upset with him

sorry i shouldnt have used ^%$#& , that was mean

now if someone offered to trade a a hump seat that needed recovered + covered shipping for him they would have probably got the seat i would venture to guess.

Well I know this is going to make me a hated man, but I went ahead and painted my seat. I know this may not be popular but it turned out great! It looks even better than I thought I would. This SEM paint is great stuff. Will it last? I don't know, but if it doesn't I can always throw a cover on it. Apologies to those who wanted me to keep it original, but I am really happy with how it turned out.

Ill put my flame suit on now... Lol.
Oh man, black seat. I think you will regret your choice of color in the summer heat.
On another note, I'm damn curious about sem paint too. I'm about to repaint the seats on my boat with it. Anyone have any experience with painting vinyl seats?

It's easy rj2, we are junkies in the most major sense of the word. Back in the day I would have had no problem tearing off oem decals and doing whatever to a mint original ski... But as time passed you see what's hard to find and the original stuff just starts looking better and better.

I have one that was painted black. When it starts flaking off from the stretch of the vinyl it will look like crap. Not mine so not my concern.

If someone wants to paint their seat, then go for it. It's not our seat so we don't have a say. I do know black gets hotter than hell in the summer sun though!

Lol, racer offered him a square deal really. He just wanted to save the seat cover from its date with the rattle can. It had a cover on it that could have been painted. Why paint the oem cover is my only question. Blacktip sells a decent looking hump seat cover if your trying to be cheap.

Lol, pride? You rattle can painted a seat. My 5 year old niece could most likely handle that.

It's not mine, I don't have to deal with burnt balls or shitty pealing paint. It's your seat to do as you want. We do get worked up seeing crap like this because us guys that actually restore oem skis search high and low for oem parts like said seat. These parts are getting harder and harder to find and we like to see them kept original. When these are gone they are gone, there will be no more. To see it painted is like a dagger to the heart. You have to understand our frustration on the issue.

We should add x4s to the endangered species list, give them protected status along with tax incentives

Don't do it. Just recover them.

But I already have the paint and everything. I don't have the money to buy the new vinyl right now...

like 10f500 said it'll flake and look worse. Only other option would be to dye them and that'd likely cost more than just buying a roll of marine grade vinyl.

Well, I am using new vinyl on the flat center cushions. Those I can just recover. But the stuff that's sown is a different story. Going to paint it with the same colors. So if it flakes it'll be same color underneath. Also I bought the sem shampoo and prep spray

Hey guys just picked up a umi for the x4, what are your favorite bars? Already have a billet throttle, umi button holder and drop nozzle lever
