Solid Motor Mounts?

After taking my GTI out wave jumping offshore, I noticed I had a couple broke motor mounts. I have been out there several times and it is a blast even on the heavy GTI. So, I was thinking why not make some solid motor mounts? Ok, there would be some vibration, but am talking about a ski that I will primarily be used to jump waves off shore...... Has anyone tried that? Surely on racing ski's they use solid mounts???

I'd be hesitant, those cylinders create quite a shock when they hit and I bet the shock transfer would be hard on fiberglass mounts. Solid mounts on engine blocks are generally not a good idea b/c it can cause block cracking in some cases as well, depending on the harmonics that occur at different engine speeds.

I agree, the urethane or rubber mounts would be the way to go. With solid motor mounts the shock from the motor would be transferred directly to the hull, think about what damage has been done to the motor mounts, it would eventually rip a hole in the hull.

I feel the same way. Even though the mounts have give, it really isn't that much. But I bet irbid enough to protect the hull and mounting pad/holes of the block.

I LOVE big waves and jump often with my RTX as well as with my GTX. I have hit so hard a few times I was worried about the integrity of my hull and if the engine mounts were still doing their job.

I would be very concerned if I had solid mounts. More so when in rough water and jumping and what not.

Some give is a good thing. Even when it comes at the cost if a mount and the labor to replace it. Much cheaper then doing hull work.

If you hard bolt the engine in the exhaust manifold will be the next weakest link and the bolts will break and you will leak coolant. Also since you broke three of the four mounts please align the engine with the proper tool.... trust me on this.
