So I might buy a 96 sportster

Now that is a good link.

And that did not have the spacers either, I do not believe , although that could be made.

Yep, I think there is another place that sells a comparable tool set up but I couldn't find my bookmark. I spend copious amounts of time researching "projects" that I would like to tackle. There are probably so many little things you need to do the job that crank builders take for granted.

Cool. I want it now :P

Spoke to my only trustworthy engine shop and droped both cranks off.
Said it was no problem to transpose one lobe from one crank to the other and replace the only two bearings bearings on it.

The Good one that has black lobes has a date stamp on it. Something like 110712. Guessing 11 july 2012
It just feels really tight as well.

What about ballancing ? I mean is this web from one crank going be identical in ballance to the other?

2 gauges, that was an option that could be added on.
might be pricey and seriosly over valued.
Get a tiny tach and most phones have gps.

I found a guy locally that will actually give me the hood from a 97 speedster. I looks the same as the 96 XP. It has a tach, fuel and rpm gauge in it.
Just need to know if it will fit and then I'll do the wiring for it.
Maybe use the original center gauge for a phone holder with a suction cup :P

Here the rules on the lake are pretty lax, but I want the mirrors anyways.

It started for the first time :)

Daam thing tricked me a few times though!

First I couldn't get it to start, just 4 beeps ? wth ??

Well actually I was amazed it actually beeped !

Oh... neutral safety switch :D Yay it started.

Now It won't rev over 1500 >:() wth ?

Neutral switch again lol

Can't move the throttle.

Fwd reverse lever wasn't all the way :P

I have a feeling I might disable all of these restrictions.

I'd rather have the ability to start anytime in any position with the throttle in any position and be able to go to reverse with the engine at throttle. Thoughts ?

It seems to run and rev alright but still smoking like hell while the extra oil gets burned off.
Haven't had it on the hose yet, just running for two 10 second bursts with a few minute cool down's just so I could set the idle.

What can I use to replace the noise deadening foam around the bilge ? Mine is pretty oily and soggy.
How good is the charging system in this for running accessories ? I mean a radio or more lights.
What should I use to polish the hull with a 7 inch polisher ?
Does it matter if I use the upper or lower flush ports.
There is this fuel tank breather hose that vent's out the side and it looks like it has threads and there might be a cap that goes on it, What is that?

Also. Seabrite makes a product called hull cleaner. Freakin AMAZING stuff. Spray on, wait, go look for what you sprayed :P But really after 20 seconds you can hose everything off easily.

*I was tempted at first too, and still find it in forward sometimes when it won't crank. First jet boat I've had with the throttle interlock.

* Acoustical foam or egg cartons?

*Pretty good, like 150 watts or around there? More than a spotlight would need.

Does it matter if I use the upper or lower flush ports.
* I find it's easier to use the pump support connection.

So its just supposed to stay open like that ? I thought there might have been some sort of cap on it at some point because it had threads.

The foam is like a cushion you would use on a top of a mattress. But that stuff wouldn't be flame retardant.

Browsin the tube I found this:
Why you should never start water before engine :O

1. I'd rather the throttle interlock. All you "accidentally"need to do or someone else needs to do is bump the throttle and you start up in forward and BAM you hit someone else's boat. I know, it won't happen to you. I've already almost had to beat down a douchey old fisherman for tapping my boat with his excuse of a boat. I wouldn't do it for fear of someone over protective of their boat like myself, it's there for a reason--safety. You can still give it throttle and it will hit the rev limiter.

2. Charging--not sure

3. Check online for marine sound deadening foam

4.I prefer the upper port, too much crap for me to reach around, I carry hose quick disconnects in my storage bin.

5.Fuel tank breather--not to keep bugs out but it will. More importantly-------------WATER! And it should have a vented cap

Yes, mine has some kind of cap on the end, maybe yours broke off? Agree about keeping water out but I dunno if the cap will really do that. My eyes aren't so good and I didn't look closely but didn't see if the front edge is protected from splash.

All other types are tilted down and back (about 45* angle) to keep out rain and splash while moving forward.

They're "splash resistant" vents

Ah that makes sense. Definitely missing.

So I need one of those.

The little latch handle on the floor

foam

1 incert for grab handle

speed sensor

The only thing about the throttle interlock is that I want to be able to go from fwd to reverse without having to bring the throttle back in case I need to stop quickly. Or can I spin out well enough to stop ?

I know the seadoo's can spin out and stop pretty quickly but I've never driven this boat before.

Got one. ajebyveb.jpg

I got to strip another boat today with lots of goodies.
Also the boat runs better with fresh gas. I drained the tank and refilled with the breaking mix.

Including:

4 light info center (installed, Plug and play :)
Rpm gauge with lights :) (installed)
12v outlet, (working on location to install)
grab handles. (all painted and looking good.
extra wiring and random parts

Now All I need to do is pick up some more paint and start buffing.

What would you use with an angle buffer for polishing/de-oxidizing the fiberglass ?

It's not that nice right now but hopefully I can celan it back to this condition.

Whats the best for removing mildew and cleaning vinyl?
I was thinking majic errasor and spraynine or super clean for the harder stuff.

I had success with Tilex mold and mildew cleaner. Clean the mildew off some PFDs without any damage to the fabric unlike what using bleach would have done. I have also used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean the interior and exterior of the boat.

Yup already discovered the power of magic eraser.
That and spray nine are awesome.
Mildew is almost all gone now. I'm just wondering what to use with my polisher.

Spray Nine was the one our detailer recommended. It wouldn't get the staining out of my vinyl though it did remove some dirt from the surface. In my case the attwood mildew remover worked much better for some reason.

There are basically a cutting and also polishing compound they use here, if it takes more than that they won't take the time to wet sand.

I used 1500 grit and wet sanded with a sponge. Then I used meguires light polishing compound to buff it out to a shine using a blue pad. I then waxed it twice. Be careful of the decals. That compound will mess them up. Test a spot to get comfortable with the wet sandpaper. I used a drop of soap in a gallon of water(this was to dip the paper in, like a rinse). Helps lube the paper. I also used a spray bottle to keep my work zone wet.

Hmm I think I might give that a try :)

Well today was launch day, That didn't work out :(

Lake droped 15 inches !!! Now I have to go to a public launch and it closes early. I only have a few hours for test run's before they close it for the day. After break in though it can live in the water for another month.

Ok got it in the water today and almost done breakin.

Video's are uploading.....

I seem to have a left turn syndrome... Turn right at speed and rpm's stay the same. Turn left and the rpm's drop 500 and recover when I straighten up. Or i have to power up while turning left.
