Top end means having the cylinders bored to the next size needed to clean up any damage and iew pistons, rings adn gaskets. Bottom endo would be crankshaft and seals.

Depending on where you are lean your plugs could still be dark. Hesitation and bogging are indications of carb issues.

See, that’s just the thing tho... the engine wasn’t bogging, hesitating, or backfiring, or popping. It sounds really great.

I have a question about lean mixtures. I was told that my mixture was lean and I need a carb rebuild. But my plugs are nice and black. That doesn’t indicate a lean mixture... am I right??
Btw I’m gonna do the compression test tonight after work and I’ll report back the readings.
You can have oil foiled plugs and still be running lean. You can also run lean in a specific throttle position and not in others...

They aren’t that fragile as long as the fuel system is in tip top shape! You’ll be just fine with them if you’re an A&P!

Thanks man, just graduated this last August. So I did a compression reading. seems pretty good, 145 in both cylinders. I ordered a carb rebuild kit, fuel filter, new little oil lines that run from the pump to the carb and crank case

Oh, and yeah… Something is definitely wrong with my dess post and/or lanyards. I have to push really hard on the lanyard for the starter to engage and to keep the engine running... if I let off any pressure on the lanyard, it dies
