Planning of the 2016 Two-Stroke Ride Weekend

Hey Guys and gals, I live on Norman and can offer a few things.
The lake is massive, about 13 miles just north to south. Plenty of small coves to ride in that are not rough but there are also multiple main channels that can be white capped in the summer time from 50ft+ boats. It really has about everything, many beach areas to pull up to, some sandy others kind of muddy depending on the time of year and lake levels. Multiple free launch access areas throughout the lake. Tons of hotels that are all within a mile or 2 of the water line. Many gas docks with ethanol free fuel and 4 really good restaurants and bars. They get pretty hopping at night for some fun. Best are Rusty Rudder at marker 28, Eddies, fantastic seafood here raw bar and at marker 33, the best though is Blu Parrot at marker 36. Decent beach area for the skis, docks also and great food. Can check out the steam plant at the north side of the lake and the nuke plant at the south end. Nowhere to park here though as security is no joke, we beached the boat one time and seriously dudes in black came out of the woods with ar's and told us to leave. LOl Sure thing officer, anyway the lake temp is usually low to mid 80s in May and by July is 90. Holiday weekends are very busy and can be hard on the smaller skis.
Know many fancy houses on the lake, I work in Nascar so familiar with most of the ridiculous houses. Governers Island is neat huge houses mostly big banking people. Also only 30 minutes from downtown CLT if anyone wanted to go. Lots of shopping, and everything in between including lots of traffic on the main interstate (i77) during the day so plan accordingly. Not LA traffic but it creeps along for quite a few miles as it goes over the water.
Try to answer any questions as I am in this area every day.

Any vrbo homes i can check out.
http://www.vrbo.com/709009 I can tell you now you dont want to stay at this one. A year or so ago the entire bottom level of this house was full of black mold. It was a forclosure and had extensive damage. My wife is a real estate agent on the lake, I have actually been in that house and saw it first hand.

Big boats give me a chubbie! LOL

That first house looks to have great water access. Couple beach carts and we can just wheel skis down. I dont see alot of parking though. No hot tub either. Nothing better than a nice big hot tub to beat the ache out of a hard day riding...IMO

I think we should try to find a house like this near the best camping or small cabin resort. That way guys that want their own little cabin or want to tent can, then just ride over to the main meeting point.

i like that idea, I would like to camp, thats kinda are thing in the summer...

Lake Norman state park is at the north end of the lake. Let me check on access, beach are etc. I know a bunch of guys that camp there in the summer

Thank you for this insight Kawi. It sounds like we need to sneak this in on a non holiday weekend. Your not the first one to say how crazy busy it gets. Assuming Norman is the choice of course.

I think we need a head count so we can figure out how many people are planning to make the trip. If we can get a group rate somewhere it could save us all a few bucks.

I'd recommend doing a midweek run if folks could swing it.

I like this lake Norman idea. Specifically going in on a multi room house. I could swing a mid week ride too, however it may cut back on the big boats on the water. Perhaps a ride that starts or ends on a weekend?

Weekdays are fine with me. School is out around here mid June. But we could do it earlier. I am only an hour and a half away so we are really flexible. I like the start Thursday and go into the weekend idea. We are in with three skis as long as it does not hit some forbidden date on our calendar. The wife says it sounds like fun.

Lake Norman is 1,000 miles from Montreal QC and 700 miles from NYC and northeast in general (NY, NJ, MA, NH, VT and the Great Lakes).

And also, please make sure you check with the towns around it. Many of them charge a premium for non residents to put they boats in the water. Here it is 150.00$ for one weekend (per boat).

Of course, if you are an owner, you can have all your boats for free (actually, I think it is two boats/skis per owner, after that there is a season fee. And an owner can have a visitor, very complicated and starting to be contested in courts). Problem here is that they don't like speed boats. And since the lake is very deep and long (like 12 miles long with a 1 mile large sandy beach with sand dunes), it would become very crowdy in summertime with Montreal and Ottawa regions close by (more than 5 millions people).

So before planning any gathering, just make sure people can actually put their skis in water for free (or for a small amount) and that there are no enforced speed limits on the water plan.

The purest the water and the beaches and the spot, the more expensive it gets (by experience).

LOL the ramps around here have a box that you put $3 in or buy like a season pass for 20$. I've never heard of anything remotely like $150 for a weekend of ramp use. That's crazy talk

I know, but some lakes attract more people than others. Think I will take a pic of our ramp with the prices, you will fall off your chair! This is why I am not inviting anyone even if I would have enough land to host 3 dozens tents and trailers where there are no trees and forest! Toilets would be an issue though...

Ain't nothing like that at the lakes here in North Carolina and sure as heck ain't no speed limits. Lake Norman is NASCAR country, all kinds of monster horsepower toys on the lake.

Lake Norman: water quality good? Anyways, it seems already a bit to far from me already although I have a friend going down in SC every year with his Airstream trailer from end-June to end-July.

How far is it from Myrtle Beach (miles and time)?

Sounds perfect. I was thinking Thursday-Sunday. I definitely like the idea of staying in a water front mansion

I'm down for Lake Norman. What month are we looking at doing this?

I'm out (again) unfortunately as of right now. Got another trip down range to go fight the bad guys, gonna miss yet another whole summer. Really sucks too because Lake Norman is only about an hour and half from my hometown...it's a great choice, you guys won't be disappointed. Lot of families, boaters, skiiers, and hotties partying it up on the lake in the summertime

I'll keep my eye on the thread just in case something changes

Do we have an around about time frame that we plan on doing this meet up?
