Depending on the year.. the last weekend of April is similar conditions to the fall ride we just did.

Which was cold as shit. At least to me. LOL!

It's gotta be in the 80s during the day for me. Even if the high is just 80.

Water would definitely be colder in April than it is in October (or November more South) because the Sun heats the water all summer long, which is not the case in Winter. And in April, there is the cold lake effect: even if the day is warm, water at lower temperature will make you feel more cold because you are just above water on your ski.

If they generate power on the lake water temperature isn't necessarily an issue

I don't mind riding my couches in colder temps but I like warmer weather for X4 riding since I get soaking wet.

On Norman this year I didnt even get in the water till first of June. End of may is about 84 but by 3rd week of june it is 90. It gets down into the 30's in the winter. Although it is a power lake the warm outflow is on the other side of the dam. All the water from the mountains runs down the catawba basin from snow. If it is in April a wet suit will be a must, that and not near as much scenery to look at if you know what I mean.

And, what guys in black suits with AR's come out to patrol the beach front at a lake? Lol did "Securitas" upgrade their uniforms and carry permits?

Its not all about me, and it doesnt make alot of sense to be out there if theres big boats to be had!

Ive got Liquid Militia team weekend on memorial and then Dells the weekend after. I really need two weeks before or after....or maybe I fly and borrow a ski? Id rather not if were jumping wake though...

From what I hear lake Norman has some big boats on it. Killer wake

95 XP800!!!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

I ride evey year starting mid April. Cold or not I'm itching to ride. Last year wasn't all that cold imo

Dept of Homeland Security patrols the grounds around the Nuke plant. There were no trespassing signs but we didn't see them till it was too late. LOL

Late May, early June is good. The kids are not out of school yet around here until almost the third week in June. That way we can hit the water for a fun weekend without worrying about summer vacations in the way. I can come down early. I have splashed a week before Memorial day the last two years with good water and air temps up here (1 hour north of Norman).

We splash a few weeks before memorial up here, the ice has only been out 6-8 weeks! Lol

In our area it's not when we can ride, it's when the big boats are in and on the move.

Clearly you northerners have evolved to the point your nuts don't suck up into your stomach when they touch cold water. :D

true !

My primary Ride buddy is only 2 yrs transplanted from Rhode Island, he doesn't' even consider weather a "factor" when deciding if we're going to ride on the weekend. When I have 2 layers on he's still in a t-shirt. I told him that one more year will fix that. The blood thins out.

LOL nothing wrong with your junk stuffing its self up inside to your belly button....it comes back out eventually.

I guess it is almost impossible to organize a ride in Northern country before 3rd week of May. As I can see, somewhere in Georgia of a bit more North is almost the only choice beginning of May.

On the Northern lakes (such as mine), ice can linger as far as end of April and even beginning of May. Usually, even on the third week of May, you could suffer from hypothermia (it just seizes you) if you have no suit and falling in water.

Wherever you organize the ride, the El Nino phenomenon this year may actually help summer kicking in a bit earlier than usual.
