How much oil should a 587 burn on a 12 gal tank?

How can you tell if an engine is getting enough oil? Can you judge by how much oil it will burn to a 12 gallon tank on a 95 GTS?I have a Yamaha Waverunner and it seems to smoke more than the Seadoo. I am afraid it may not putting enough oil in the fuel. Last time I was at the lake I burned about 5 gallon of gas and the oil tank is still full. The oil tank may have been a little on the the too full side though.
Is it ok to add oil to the gas just to be sure?

yeah, throw some of those 1oz'er bottles from auto store/gas station....but if you can, double check the injection pump. Use a mirror to see, and check the "notches" for alignment, need to line up.
