I loved seeing the Aussie ads. "Twin Carby" :D And notice the trailers. I'm used to seeing the same few brands around here. It's a regional thing mostly and it gets repetitive.

haha yeah our adds need to sound exotic, special and rare to make a sale at the prices being charged lol we have some good trailers over here we need them with all the pot holes in our city roads :lols:

So I did indeed turn around that $350 boat this weekend and send it right back with my Dad. It wasn't easy. There was a whole host of "red-necked" repairs to undo.

Fri. evening- The story on the boat was that it ran but wouldn't move in the water so I went right to the carbon seal first. This was a 96 so it was the first year for that seal and they used an O-ring to hold it instead of the C-clip. Sure enough it had come loose and I thought "yeah got it". I pulled the pump anyway but found a new impeller and wear ring so I hit it with the new synthetic gear oil and neoprene seal and threw it back together. A wet test the next morning and it won't go very well. The rear cylinder wasn't helping and a new plug didn't help.

Sat. evening- I got a break from the family visiting and went outside to pull the carbs. The manifold had a huge chunk broken out of it and had been JB welded to no avail. I talked my parents into staying half a day Sun. to give me a little more time.

Sun. morning- I noticed more JB-weld attempts on the motor mounts! I just yanked the engine out, replaced 3 out of 4 mounts, put on a used intake manifold(with new oil injection lines), replaced all the clamps with stainless, a used oil injection cable(that I found mis routed and incorrectly connected), cleaned the plugged carbs in the ultrasonic cleaner, new fuel lines where they were grey, bolts everywhere replaced where they were stripped from people not using metric allen wrenches, new exhaust gasket with pipe I had that had been professionally welded over the welch plug that blows out, clipped the plug wires and screwed them back tight with Di-electric grease, drained the stale fuel, replaced the O-ring in the filter/water collection bowl(that was bad), and fired it up. It still didn't sound like some sweet heart but I was out of time. They towed it home, hope he gets a ride.

Sorry about the book but I just wanted to touch on the other side for once. I'm always taunting the "great deals" but you get what you pay for(usually). :patriot:

i for one like to hear the story, gives me a lil better sense of what kind of work goes into one of these, and makes me feel better that u guys bought it instead of me :)

do u think the rings could be stuck to the piston? possibly melted piston? from the air leak/cracked manifold

Yes gazza the rear cylinder was not done any favors with the broken manifold and plugged carb. With the other problems they were just not able to even use the boat. The guy just seemed to mix up some JB weld no matter what broke.

bugger mate JB weld is cheap but parts over there arnt much more than a couple tubes of JB weld

lol, he's probably got some JB weld in his teeth fillings...

They're 16.5 feet, that is a crazy sick deal, I wouldn't let mine go for triple that, but that is me. I've seen them go for as little as $4,500 on Ebay. They're classified as a 160 I guess, I never liked the numerical classification.

Was going to look at it today, but when I asked for better pics before the drive, they said they don't have any. She said she is selling it for a friend, her husband said it was theirs, etc. It is a killer deal, but after all the time I've wasted looking at junk that people said was good, if I drive 2 hours and it is a complete POS, I'm gonna have to be institutionalized lol.

Sounds like it needs a motor, they said it needs interior done, that's $1500-$2k right there, add in all the other BS that pops up with these and I'm not sure if I want to bother. I was thinking of buying, fixing and keeping this and selling my 08 Speedster 150 SCIC, but really don't know if I want to deal with it :(.

Sorry Tim, I wasn't very clear in that- the $1500-$2k is for the motor and interior, not just interior. I am really interested in it, but don't feel like wasting a 2 hour trip if it's junk and not sure if I want another project right now.

mate over here "selling for a friend" rings alarm bells im not sure how u guys go about registration and titles but over here we need a sales receipt from the actual owner so if a friend is selling it and u buy it u have no rights at all pretty much theft unless the friend has written a full letter saying they are giving the seller all rights to sell it on there behalf

ive been down this road and bent over on a seadoo over here we have yearly registration but the jetskis dont need yearly registration inspections u just pay the fee and its all good to go so this seadoo was passed on to a guy without changing over the registration into the buyers name than this buyer sold me the jetski i had a hard time trying to get the registration put into my name i eventually sold the seadoo on to recover my money once burnt twice shy i now ask for all paper work in the actual persons name who im handing the cash over to

Just got a call from Nammer, he's checking that 99 Speedster out, if I wasn't running through cash so fast I'd be cutting a deal. 1600 miles away and he's trying to hook a brotha up. Watch out FLA, you might be exporting! Just kidding.

Thanks for thinking of me Nammer!

Sweet! Keep me posted on how it is! I'm sure it is fine, but I'm feeling tired of projects and tired of wasting my time looking at junk on CL that people think is gold! There is some straight up junk out there and when someone says they can't get me better pics, it has always turned out to be a waste of time for me :(. Hopefully it will be a good score for someone and if you don't want it and I get word from a member that it is worth it, I'll take the ride then :).

Nam said he will post up, but the seats need covers and no one makes them, so that's a one off. The one engine runs and the other didn't, I didn't ask for specfics but I THINK it was turning over but wouldn't fire?.? These can be a bear to fire up sometimes especially the longer they sit. They are like hens teeth up here, I have only seen 1 other 99 near me, knew a guy with a 98, saw a 2000 at a dealer back in the day and another 2000 on CL recently. I scour Ebay to see what they are going for now and again.

Let us know Nam.

When I spoke with the guy today, he said one engine was fine, the other would run but made a horrible grinding noise.

I do like the boat, I like the more traditional layout of the seats better than my 08 and I like the simplicity of the 2 strokes- my 4 Tec SCIC is nowhere near as simple! I also like the fact that I can sell my 08 for ~$9,000-$10,000, pocket the difference and still have a similar boat. Just, like I said, I am really tired of wasting my time with craigslist ads!

If Nammer posts pics and it is worth it and nobody else beats me to it, I'll take the ride tomorrow and pick it up :). I actually have the cash in my wallet because I was planning on going today and stopped at the bank, but just could not motivate myself to drive 2 hours each way with my 4 year old for a big "if" :(. Doesn't help that I got smacked upside the head with some nasty bug shortly after waking up today- ugh...

Yeah Nam called me too. I didn't realize that it was the nicer style and had 787's in it. He was excited, I think the boat was much cleaner in real life when he got there. He offered it to me too but I was overstocked and busted. Then I had to take a stab at talking him out of buying it.

Ah, ok. If he didn't take it but posts up that it is worth it, I will take a ride out first thing in the morning to pick it up :). Cash is in my wallet ready to go!

In my market I wouldn't even haggle! Cleaned up and running I could probaly get 4k on a quick sale.

Not to toot my own horn but, it's the BEST LOOKING 16 footer Seadoo ever made, and only in yellow, the other color combo's do nothing for me.

If it was a Merc, I wouldn't even talk about it, that was when they became boat anchors to me!

Haggling wasn't my concern, wasting my day for it to be a total POS was :D. If it is still there, I'm taking a drive tomorrow!

hey guys, yea I had to run over to sbt to get my neoprene ring for the pump that took me like 5 days to try to get off, and it looks like it's almost done, matt, it was $3.75, so I was glad when they told me the price :) and yea i drove on up to crystal beach where it was at to take a look at it, I had cash in the car, but was 70% sure I wasn't going to buy it, (no space and no skill) but it looks real solid, the hull looked great, the top just needed some compound and wax, the I think one of the exhaust was a different color, the pics I got are kinda dark, so not sure how much we can see, I'll post em up in the next hour or 2, I'm gonna go downstairs and try to finish my wear ring, so the was/or is in the military, very very nice guy, he's selling it for his neighbor who is up in NY, and the boat still has NY stickers, we walked across the street to the neighbors house, the one motor fires right up, I forgot my compression gauge, so wasn't able to check anything, he said there is title for it, yea I called matt cause I know matt loves deals, and luckily he did kinda talk me out of it, it just looked too good to pass up, and I called racerxxx, cause you're up just near my sister and I go there frequently (not sure how that exporting would work otherwise :)) I'll post pics soon when i get back in, he said someone was supposed to come after me, cause when I said I was on my way, he let me have dibs, again, real nice guy, and he was showing pics to my buddies of explosions in afghanistan

I hope the pics are good, a short while back there was one on Ebay. I vaguely want to say it was from NY. I might be able to tell from the pics, were the stock air boxes on it for the carbs?

That boat in a POS condition, I'd still take it. Like I said it is the most desirable to me. I searched from Vermont to North Carolina in August of 99 for mine. Found it at this shady dealer an hour from me. They are a refrigeration/Seadoo dealer, very cool guys to deal with, it was almost like going to their house to buy it.
