Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will be parting it out as it does have the E box and the wiring harness and a functional VTS with gauge. The other gauges are toast. The steering is good so I guess I will try to sell it as well. The fuel baffle and oil level sensors also work. What else can I realistically expect to be able to sell?

Thanks again,

Robert

thats pretty much it, unless you want to get carried away, generally speaking anything that can be taken off with tools can be sold, waterbox, sponsons, steering, etc, but imo most of that stuff isn't worth the trouble, you'll spend more time selling and shipping than the return in $ is worth.
vts, ebox are probably the two most valuable items.

ughhhhhh, I'm so sick of these seadoos, ok i want to offer a barter

can someone fix my two non running 1996 spi and 1997 gsx, and I will give you the other gsx, has some body damage, has title, has engine, btw, I found the carbs inside the ski, I'll put up pictures shortly

Whats wrong?
We should be able to fix what ever is wrong if engine has compression. Its either fuel-->air--->spark
We just have to narrow down gremlins one at a time.

the gsx, the previous owner said it was "running" when it was parked, i know it's been 2 years, and prob not the smartest thing to do, but I put my good battery in it, changed the spark plugs, and tried to fire it up. I got the beep beep, and the display reads, it will try to crank, but won't turn over. I checked compression, 150 and 155, so I think that is good, still has the tempo lines, I'm too frustrated with my other ski to even work on this one. My 1996 spi, starts up good, sounds beautiful on land, but smokes a lot, once I put it in the water, it'll run for maybe like 30 feet then start to die down. it has new spark plugs, new oil, new gas, carbs rebuilt by me (not sure how good it is), new fuel lines, bypassed fuel selector switch, compression between 145 and 150 in both.

Have you checked RV clearance?
Usually reason for no start in water.
The SPI is a 587 single carb right?

Whats the jetting?
It has numbers on the rim of jet.
http://www.seadoosource.com/carbreference.html

The smokey is excess oil that should burn off. Don't worry about that right now.

For the GSX you need someone more 787 friendly but start with basics.

Poor starting can be caused by comprised cables.
Check cables to starter.
I had bad positive. Was being held by a few strands.

hey ocod, thanks for your help,

no, I have not checked Rotary valve clearance, not even sure where to start with that,
yea 96 spi is single carb 587
no idea on the jetting, I looked at the link you sent, but the adjustments and stuff don't mean much to me :(

I'm just so frustrated with them, I just want someone to fix them for me :) if somebody is interested in cash instead i'll even pay for it, but i can't afford the shop prices, or if somebody is interested in these projects they can be for sale as well

too late, i'd rather work on my truck, that way I can see mods that work, if anybody would like to come take a look at them, i prefer offering the parts gsx, but would be willing to pay 200-300 to get them running, or if someone would like them, they can be for sale too.

i've taken my spi to the ramp 4 times now, and always the same result. the ramp is only 3 miles away from me, but i've concluded that going back and forth is such a hassle, i even drove it to the jet ski shop a couple miles from me today around 1 and they were closed, who the h is closed on wednesday at 1?

Your just frustrated, you don't have to bail. That SPI should be first. That is a simple, bullet proof runner. Fix it and enjoy a good ride so you don't loose the bug.

yea i wanted to get it running first, but kinda stuck with what to do with it, just need someone who knows what they're doing to take a look at them

Heres a suggestion on checking clearance. You have a manual right.
I'll have to see if there is a section on how to?
http://www.shopsbt.com/forum/t19940/

You can send carb out to Drhonda for 65 bucks. Eliminate carb as variable.
I'm sure other local peeps can even help on that.

The rest checks out if compression good.

It's either a timing issue or woodruff key on crank went south are reasons for no start when all else checks out

nam, i'll send you an email on this tomorrow or later tonight, I know the right guy,
but your looking at an 80 mile tow, but bottom line, maybe its time to get somebody with the right experience to get his fingers in there, that isn't out to screw ya ! Standard shop prices can get real pricey real fast, what you need is a $25 an hour guy that can make the hours count. There are probably 15 of them within 20 miles of you, you just don't know who they are. but trust me they are there, but your average shop has to build in overhead, its a simple fact.

I gladly make a 40 minute drive to my mechanic. Once you get them running right, with luck you'll just a little simple maintenance now and then and the rest of the time you'll be out on the water instead of staring at your engine bay and asking us bozo's a bunch of questions. I gave up a long time ago and have conceded to the professionals the moment I feel i'm over my head, they key is to find a professional that doesn't have a dam $65 hr shop charge.

and ps... clean up those engine bay's ! I see all that dirt and I cringe ! You've got a pile of dirty parts :) There's easily a good 2 hours of washing needed

i think this idea has a lot of promise, if this guy doesn't work out, i'll just move on down the list, it's funny the guy who owns the repair shop that I stopped by today and was closed at 1 pm in the afternoon actually emailed me

I just wanted to post a special Thanks to member FLKustom for a hot tip on an add on CL. Owner had it advertised as a 1991 seadoo with no model, turned out to be a 1998 GTXL in pretty dam good shape and I got a real fair price on it. After some hassles with a flat trailer tire in the owners driveway, i picked up a $35 tire this morning and over lunch, swapped it out and its now in my garage !

Now I have 6 ski's, 3 of them 951's so now I know what I'm going to be doing on my nights and weekends till Mid September.

Great Thread !!!
