If everyone is cool with it, I would like to merge the two threads because I think they are the same question albeit the other one started as honing cylinders but progressed into sealing crank cases. I'll let this fester until tomorrow some time and if no one complains about the merge I'll do it. Just keep it cordial guys we're all here to help each other and preserve our passion.

Now to lighten the mood....................

I'm watching you Fockers . . :lols:

I am not sure who you are getting your information from but they do not know what they are talking about.
A rebuilt crank is $275 plus shipping for one from SBT out of florida but their shipping can be ridiculous. A rebuilt one from Seadoo is about $400 and most dealers like Pro Caliber offer free shipping on orders over $99. I only use ones from seadoo.

Ts seal the cases use Threebond 1194, Honda Bond 4, Yamabond or Permatex MotoSeal, they are all the same thing.

Got bad info from this guy at the Jet-Ski Shop!! Custom Built Engines!! (China grove, NC)

The SBT cranks appear to be ok. When they first started they had bearing issues but I think they resolved that. They do say that the parts are made in China but keep in mind not all stuff from China is junk. What got me was the crank was $275 but shipping of the crank to me then my core back to them from California to Florida was almost another $100. So for $400 I just bought an OEM crank from Pro Caliber in Oregon.

Another option is WSM cranks they have been the go to aftermarket company since the 90's and hfgreg here will give you a great deal. hfgreg

If it was a ski to flip I would go cheap for my personal skis that I am going to keep I only use OEM.

Has any one had any experience with the crank shafts from SBT?

Remember with SBT what you're buying is a welded crank, that's a matter of personal opinion for some but I won't use one. Also, you have to factor in $35.00 each way for shipping of the new one and core return so go talk to your local dealer and see what the out of pocket total is for a factory reman they use a much higher quality inner crank seal and bearings and you may not have any shipping charges involved if they can add it to their normal weekly order.

I've taken an oil bath no less than a 100 times cranking sbt (and others) reman engines just a few years into service from cheap inner crank seal leaks and that's no fun. You expect it from a 15 year old crank but not one on it's 2nd or third year of service.

I've never been charged a penny from my local dealer for parts I've had to order and get shipped in to them. I've never heard a dealer charge shipping for something you walked I and ordered. If they're doing that to anyone that's just plain robbery. The grocery store doesn't charge you shipping.

Not that I would use sbt but call them and ask what the final shipping charges would be.

Well sounds like no SBT for me. I would never put inferior parts in something just to sell it. IMHO its unethical

As far as SBT cranks and engines I would not say they are inferior and there have been a ton of people use them without issue.
My opinion is that their gasket kits and carb kits are inferior though.

Best is OEM Seadoo
Better is WSM or Hot Rods.
Good is SBT.

SBT does weld their cranks so if in the future you were to want another brand they will not take the welded cranks as a core.

Again all my opinion.

I have no clue where they are made but they are the best ones you can buy with the best OEM bearings and seals.

For all I know SBT could be making them to Seadoo specs. SBT is the largest re-builder in the world and even say they have OEM contracts so who knows.

OK just spoke with rep at PRO CALIBER and he said cant get OEM cranks anymore without buying motor??? referred mae to SBT but based on opinions here i would rather not use them, any other source for OEM cranks??

other dealer ? does any body Know of another source for Oem crankshafts so i can call them?

I used to get great deals on them from SHSpowersports, well that dried up as when they were discounting them they weren't making enough to cover shipping costs back to BRP and eating shipping to me for free. I'll wager these guys figured it out too.

It's for an RFI, not carbed, the front snout taper is different, you'd need an RFI flywheel.

ordered reman from WSM. ~$300 with tax, no shipping and sending me a prepaid return postage for core. Not bad

Who did you buy it thru? I didn't think you could go direct to wsm unless you're a reseller?
