After being parked for a year and collecting cobwebs, our son, the now 20 year old who was burned in earlier parts if this thread, took the initiative to work on the XP yesterday. He is busy with school, just completing his second year of college, and car projects of his own, but after returning from a trip to Spain Wednesday night, he started working on the XP while I was working. It had been sitting on a stand in the garage and needed to carbs to be installed and the fuel lines hooked up. I had sent the carbs off to Dr. Honda about a year ago. They were still in the plastic packaging he returned them in. So after installing them, hooking up the fuel lines, draining the old fuel, putting in fresh non-ethanol fuel and swapping out for a charged battery, it was time to fire it up. Cranked it a while to draw fuel in the system and got a good pop/backfire out of it, which made it puke out what seemed to be a cup of a nasty black fuel/oil mix, it started up!!!! Late in the afternoon we put it on a single trailer, and headed off to the lake. He went out for a spin when I parked the car/trailer, but returned quicker than I thought he would, but he had a smile in his face. Said it was quick and ran great, but he wanted to be sure that after a quick run, everything looked good in the hull. So off with the seat..... Everything was tight and dry!!! He went out again with a GPS. Completely stock, it topped out at 53.5 MPH (but gets there in an instant). Is that about the right top speed for this? We don't have a tach, so I have no idea what the RPM's were.
Now that it is running I will have to finish cleaning it up, install the new traction mats (probably purchased on the Black Friday sale in 2012), the new graphics (Black Friday 2013) and get some photos posted in this thread. At the rate I get things done, I should have an update for you in early 2016.
