Well I was the high bidder on another 98 speedster at an auto auction to have some spare parts. Bid didn't meet reserve so they have till Monday to accept.

Well if this goes through one will get parted and dumped. Seats for these things go for 200 each seat half. It's nuts.

Well so much for the parts boat. The place relisted it for what will be about 2500 buy it now after fees. Not gonna happen, lol.

I'm not missing anything. The interior on this other one was mint while mine is just good. I figured if I got it cheap and mpem worked I'd end up with my boat for free.

I think our boats use the same mpem and they go for 1500+

Yours in a conduit box? It makes me want to part out 2 787 skis and then sell my mpem after a conversion because I absolutely hate the neutral safety switch but dont like the idea of 2 keys

Ah, looks like it's the 98-99 challenger that's the same. I think yours might be a Square D, lol.

I have never seen seat halves "SELL" for $200 for our boats. If they do, it's not on ebay. I always look for spares just in case. There are always red ones for sale, rarely and I mean rarely yellow ones. I used to save every auction on my pc for the seats.

I guess you car or truck doesn't have one? I'll never get why guys hate the NSS, it's been on boats forever.

This dude sold each seat half except for 2 bases for 200 shipped at the end of dec/early december.

They always went away on my stick vehicles and my work van has a switch and a button so I guess I could start it in drive but it is usualy in park anyways. I just perfer the ski style opperation, it would have to be the perfect storm for sombody to get injured by the boat starting in forward or reverse

Wow, that is ridiculous. I've seen tops and bottoms in nicer condition than that sell for the same money.
Yeah I guess it just takes one guy who wants them bad enough. They went within a day of listing too. That was supposed to read late november/early dec.

Safeties are in place to save the clueless if you know what I mean, we just have to deal with them. It only takes one these days and a lawyer.

I lived it back in the mid 80's when they banned 3 wheelers because people we're idiots and didn't know how to ride properly or wear a helmet. Yes, I still ride a trike to this day. The 4th wheel on a quad just seems out of place to me.

Hey RacerXXX, do u have the shop manual for the 98? It seems like everywhere has the 99 only but I'm sure it's basically the same.

Let me check, I downloaded one probably 15 years ago from some guys personal website who hosted it. I think it's a 98.

I've been in FL for a week and now will be in TX for work every other week so progress is slow. I did end up bidding on and winning the parts speedster Friday, so will be going to pick that up soon.

I'll likely keep the MPEM and at least 1 pump as spares. Then pick through the interior to make the best of the 2 and part the rest.

Today I played around with the port engine that was reading 130 psi before I pulled it. It turned over a little slowly in the boat so u swapped a different starter then pulled the head to check things out.

Surprisingly both cylinders looked really good other than some rust on a small area of each cyl that had built up. I got 90% of the rust off with a scotch pad then steel wool. There is absolutely no scoring on either cyl.

After throwing the head back on ingot to test out my new $70 snap on comp tester from ebay. The thing looks completely unused.

Results were approximately 132/148. I will say I don't like the 10psi intervals of the snap on gauge. The lower of the 2 cyls had the most leftover rust I couldn't get off.
