I have a 1999 seadoo GTS that i just bought from a guy. i was out ridding around for 15-20 min and all of a sudden the ski died. i was able to get it restarted but would only go 15-20 feet and die again. at a certain point the start button would not do anything so i had to unplug the connection from the computer and replug it to get it to turn over again. any ideas on what would have caused this issue?

DESS post or the Key. I just had this similar issue with a GTI. The ski would randomly cut off like pulling the key off of the DESS post. Check the key for magnetism.

I first changed the DESS post with no change. I then got a new Seadoo key from the dealer and had it programmed to the MPEM (computer) and the problem is gone.

When I bought this ski, the owner disclosed that it was diagnosed by the "tech" that the dess post was bad. So going by that info I changed the dess post and same issue. I bought a new Seadoo key at the dealer and then had it programmed and now all is good.

I would go through and check all power connections and fuses for corrosion, before spending roughly $60+ programming for the new key.

I had checked everything on mine as I also had a non charging problem. It was a bad pin at the 4 pin connector to the stator.

Do you have anyone around you with abski with the same desspost,,,not sure if 2 pin or 3 pin,,,you could easily swap,,,actually,,,i did this couple weeks ago...i shuntted a working ski with same dess post (pins),,and started the ski with the dess post in question,,,just unplug the dess posts,,,,use extendable3 wire loom,,and tap it into the connector going to the mpem of the questionable post...,use the key from the questionable dess post,,,since the keys are not interchangeable as you know.,,this way uou do not have to remove a dess post for the swap.,,of course you can do resistance tests but that failed me once,,,and of course,,,you could use the questionable post to start a good ski post,,,
