Newbie here ,Got a 98 gtx rfi, that I bought a month ago, PO had it sitting for like years. To make a long story short it’s my 1st jet ski so have no clue about them, the ski starts outside the water with a little bit of difficulty but it’s starts, and revs up just fine but as soon as I put it in the water it won’t rev up, so far this is what I’ve done : new starter, new regulator, top end done, new battery, cleaned injector, don’t know what else to do, I’m going crazy here, even out it for sale, but still have high hopes of getting it running , please any suggestions will be appreciated.

Could be a number of issues, but I'd start by checking running fuel pressure, assuring the filters are clean, check cylinder compression, fresh spark plugs properly gaped. Some people have had to resort to resetting the TPS or sending the injectors out for a through cleaning and testing.

Those RFI's can be a pain to get right, the longer it sat the more problems it could have developed. All you can do is go down the list.. Running on the trailer and not in the water means the fuel system is not up to handling the load, so I'd focus in that area.

As Gene alluded to...the longer they sit, the more issues that start creeping in. Your problem definately feels like/sounds like a fuel delivery issue (doesn't really matter anymore if it's carbs or FI)....if these skis don't get good fuel delivery.....game delayed......rebuild carbs and / or injector service....it's all the same type of issue.....Spark + Fuel + Compression = ski goes boom (in the cylinders) and away you go.

Running in air (on the trailer) is not a real test either.....the ski needs the water resistance to let you know if she's ready to rumble.......MANY a shade tree mechanic gets really excited about getting a ski running in the air ONLY to be deflated when the ski falls flat on the water.....you just gotta keep at 'er.......takes a little pain and suffering but you'll get there eventually....we have all been there......HIGH Hopes, dashed dreams.....grumble, grumble, grumble, ahhhhhhhhh....success! Enjoy the journey, you will learn many things along the way.

A'int it the truth....if everything goes according to plan, no hiccups, no extra parts left over.....I start second guessing myself....WHERE did I eff it up.....What have I forgotten to do....the curse of doing it yourself.

thanks so much for the response, I’m gonna look into all my fuel line, like I said I am very new at this. It’s my first ski . And right now I have such a brain fart that don’t even know where to start looking. Do you ave any suggestions on where I should begin

Yes, start with the fuel system......clean fuel, new injectors. You said she starts and runs but won't rev up on the water......to me, that's a fuel delivery problem to the cylinders.....thus the injectors IMHO.

She revs up on the trailer though - right? If not, make sure your throttle cable attachments are all good as well.
