so here is my crazy story if anyone cares. This is first experiment which ended up delaminating. When done this XPL weighed in at 397 lbs . Rossier single pipe total loss full blah blah SS . They dynoed at 187hp. A stock XPL floats in water with sponsons just penetrating water. I dumped this bad boy in water first run and shiz u not sponsons were 2 inches from touching water line. Later taught me to spot cheaters at starting line. Good news was ...idle starts were violent. Left more like an GSX or X4. Physically impossible to do a one handed start. the boat would run wide open ...turn 3g and never hear mtr change pitch. Zero loading affect. However.. going into a corner half throttle then wot in middle corner would lift nose so violently it wud go straight. Like a Banshee doing a wheelie in a corner. Rough water chop presented new challenges on straight aways. Did not blow through chop but skimmed tops like X4 in a semi outa control riding style. Burping throttle at end of straight away didnt settle boat nose dwn for a hard bite into corners. It became much easier to hop- slide in corners. Bottom line is at 575 lbs stock .. 475 is min weight. Unless u just wanna play bounce spin rec boat and have a seroius giggle factor. Imop. (;

Lol.. May have over built my riding level. Apparently beer drinking is a non sanctioned training event for WFinals racing! So lets add 75 more HP and convince my kid to ride it. I will continue my training .

Curious about something. Is that pump tunnel big enough for a 4tec? I also would have thought the through hull fitting would be in while you build the hull. But I know nothing of the work you do.

Hello Seadoodoc, Seeing that picture of the front motor mount reminds me of a repair I have been putting off and you appear to be just the guy I need for advice. Not to hijack but I aquired a 2001 XP that broke the front motor mount glass enough to push the threaded aluminum support all the way into the outer hull and cracked it. The foam and portion of the inner hull are gone because the genius kept riding it. Any tips on the repair?
My plan was to repair the outer hull with epoxy resin and woven cloth. Then set the engine in place and support it and align it with spacers on the bolts to set the aluminum plate the correct depth then pour 2 part expanding foam in the void to set the aluminum plate depth and provide structural support. Finally I wall reglass the inner hull with more epoxy resin and woven glass. I want to say I bought the 8 lb foam for support and I think they said it would be as hard as a soft wood like pine.

Thoughts?

Oh geez! One at time here guys! Thanks for looking. I like to share as much as I learn. You guys are great. So on pump tunnel. The calculated intake are of any pump intake radically excedes surface area of pump diameter. Pie r squared. Stock XpL is 155mm . Im putting in RXP 159mm. Minimal diference. Similar XpL just ran 84.7mph . With no " pump overstuffing" and no pressure releif valves. Complicated topic. See 4tec forums for education in " Im clueless at 80 mph" lol. The 951 x4 is a different critter. 140mm stock. Xpl 155 is an undertaking for failure. Good news is us 951 racers were stepping down to 148mm mag pumps for better top end. Really seemed 155m is too big at 135 hp 951! Explains why a 255hp 4tec is only slightly bigger. Rxp 159mm bolts to 155mm xpl. 140 mm to 148 mm on x4 is a mother f$!# to do.

it just works. 70 mph 951 x4. 85 mph xpl 4tec. You tube xpl 4tec Nico Russ.

On pipe paint finish. Thats called Silver Vein powder coating. Pretty cheap to do. Silver vein is one of few PCote that shoot gloss on after. Super super durable and never shows scratches. Give up on rattle can . Never hold up. The engine bay paint? Brace your self... Home depot. Epoxy garage floor paint. Roll on ...paint brush.. whatever. Super forgiving.. fuel and oil resistant. Works on my garage until damn kids did burnouts on pit bikes! (:

one of things I did on pipes was spent about two hours grinding every cast mark of pipe before PC. No " hot dont touch" casting. Pretty easy and fast. Pc is cheap.

Mikidymac.. here we go .. here is the bible of PWC repair. First of all bottom of SD are more of a SmC style. Sheet Molde Compound. Yama and,Kawi are same top bottom. Problem is there is a mold release agent built into resin. Grinding bottom stimulates mold release agent and inhibates fiberglass molecular bonding on a new layer. Try glassing a tuperwell bowel...then twist it. No bonding. Fix bottom with glass and your just buying time. Trust me on this.. 50 repairs on heavy river running and they alway fail. Lord Fusor rep came to my shop and and set me back on a dumbass level in 1999. Structual adhesive compound for car bumper repair was ticket

BOTTOM repair. Second on this is loose Epoxy Resin ideas. Mixing Epoxy and Polyester ( oem) resin is a group that dont play well together. Poly is cheap and fine. EPOXY is better for Carbon layups. ....the inside of SD is a whole nother story. They actually lay in a preformed foam tray...then shoot a chopper gun conventional fiberglass cloth to cover. It blends to outer shell well as long as there is no grinding ( releasing mold rel agent) look carefully at xsection on seadoo and bottom is notable different looking . I have a boat with aluminum insert collapsed. Inside of boat accepts standard poly resin adhesion well. Need to cut out front motor mount. Gimme rig foam blocks. Top with aluminum 3/8 ..glass over. Then buy drill bit tap combo ( all in one..really cool) ebay 15 bucks. Just my experience at 50 yrs old! (:

Correction.. you can put epoxy resin over polyester.. but cant lay poly over epoxy. So for safety using more expensive epoxy for small areas is fine.

Dug alot harder on original xpl 4 tec build. Looks like he cut a RXP shaft in half. Then threaded on a yamaha coupler.

No Adam, thats 3/8 laminated wood grain particle board. Especially fantastic simulated cherry wood grain. Hot glued in foam blocks for support,,, generously coated in Carbon fiber! And yes its 3.5 inches wide.. 2x4 stud grade spec.. and 500 .. I am making zero attempt at anything cosmetic on this build. This will be the gutted roll caged drag race car of Seadoos. This build is so expermental I am preparing for radical mods mid stream!

I wasn't trying to be an arse with the 2 x4 question, don't want you to think that.

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!
