Hello all. I recently assembled the bottom half of my 580 engine. And attachted the two pistons when I decided to check the rotary valve cavity to be sure it was sealed properly. It will go from 5 psi to 0 in about 20 seconds. So I want to split the case to see if I can see what's up but I have to remove and likely ruin 2 circlips. Does anyone know if OEM circlips are compatible with WSM pistons? They seem to be the only one I can get locally.

Cheers

New or old crank?

It's a SBT crank with 20-25 hours on it. And to be a bit more specific, it's the WSM platinum series piston installed

Mix up some soap and check your fittings (no more than 5psi air) I don't have a good leak test set up and generally it is my external connections (hoses) that are leaking. It doesn't take much. There is a chance that whoever assembled the engine did not put any sealant on the outside of the seals on the rotary valve chamber when they installed the crank. Some people don't do this but I had a problem with a leak there on my first engine. I will always use a small amount of sealant on those lip seals. Good Luck !!!

Thanks for the reply. I assembled the case myself and I did not put any sealant on the seals. And I have confirmed 100% it is leaking on the inside of the case so I have no doubt it is the seals. This is why I wanted to open it back up. But in order to do so I need to remove the pistons and now need more circlips. I cannot find any source for WSM circlips in Canada so I was wanting to know if anybody knows if OEM circlips will work since they are easy to get. Or if anyone knows of a WSM dealer in Canada that might be able to help me, please let me know. Thanks

The circlips should be the same as long as they are the wire ones. The ones you don’t want are the flat circlip ones.

I've installed the pistons the wrong way and reused the same circlips. As long as they are not all bent up. :D I'd like to buy extras though. I'm really careful not let one "BOING" and fly across the shop lost forever. :)

Take them off carefully and reuse them done this a bunch of times in a pinch at the test track trying different combos on our drag sleds and on skis also when cust supplied parts and they lost there clips

And make sure the gap is facing straight up or down.

As long as you don’t compress them too much or run them I wouldn’t be worried about reinstalling them once.
