Man stashed 44,900 pieces of mail at deceased mom's home, rented storage facilities

Postal worker sentenced for hiding mail

US Attorney's office
(CNN) -
Newman, Jerry Seinfeld's diabolical nemesis and United States postal worker, was denied his dream transfer to Hawaii when the Post Office discovered he hadn't been delivering a lot of the mail he was supposed to be.

Unfortunately for Brent Morse, life isn't a Hollywood sitcom.

The former Kentucky postal worker was sentenced to six months in federal prison for "destroying, hiding and delaying the delivery of at least 44,900 pieces of mail," according to David J. Hale, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

Morse, a mail carrier for five years, stored the nearly 45,000 pieces of undelivered mail at his deceased mother's home and, just like Newman, at rented storage facilities near his home and mail route in western Kentucky.

The majority of the mail was meant for around 250 homes in the community of Dawson Springs, and it was meant to be delivered between March 2011 and March 2013, Hale said.

Adel Valdes, a U.S. Postal Inspector in Louisville, said Morse's motive was: "He wanted to pick up his kids from school every day at a certain time."

Valdes said the owner of one of the storage centers noticed a large amount of mail and USPS equipment when Morse failed to properly shut his unit's door, so he called authorities.

Morse, 34, was not charged with stealing the contents of the undelivered mail, according to Hale, but he was ordered to pay nearly $15,000 in restitution for losses incurred by two businesses that mail commercial circulars.

The USPS has since delivered the recovered mail.

Man jumps fence at Tampa airport.

CNN) -Airport officials still don't know why a 27-year-old man jumped over a fence at Tampa International Airport Monday evening and ran towards an active runway.

The man was apprehended within three minutes, airport spokeswoman Janet Zink told CNN.

Zink said the man jumped a fence shortly after 5 p.m. and ran toward Runway 1 Right. He was observed by an employee of an airplane maintenance company, who called 911, she said.

Airport police arrested the man, Zink said. He was still being questions two hours after the incident.

Air traffic controllers, pilots and airport police were recorded talking about the event on LiveATC.net tapes.

"How about the guy over here walking on the runway," one pilot said.

"I have no knowledge of that, but I think I see something now," the controller responds, before instructing a Southwest flight taxiing to the runway to stop.

"He's got his arms up ... he's walking northbound on the runway."

A police officer then asks for clearance to enter the runway to apprehend the man.

"That's something you don't see every day, tower," another pilot radioed.

"No you don't," the controller responded.

The incident briefly delayed a Southwest flight from Tampa to Houston, and a United flight from Tampa to Chicago.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Two women were hospitalized after a jet ski exploded in Virginia Beach Friday evening.

Bat. Chief Amy Valdez told WAVY.com emergency crews were called to the single jet ski accident in the 800 block of Spigel Drive, which is near the Lynnhaven River. One person received “traumatic” injuries and the other victim went to the hospital with burn injuries, Valdez said.

Witnesses told WAVY’s Jason Marks the explosion happened as the two women were trying to start up the jet ski. Lance Shores, who lives nearby, was one of the first people down to the water to help.

“The explosion sounded like a bomb,” Shores said. “I got on the scene and there was a woman pulling my neighbor’s wife out of the water,” Shores said. “She was yelling for help. The flames on the jet ski were ten feet in the air.”

“First thing I did was drag both of them across the floating dock. [One woman] kept screaming about her back, but I had to get her away from that flame,” Shores said. “The other lady’s skin was actually peeled off her arm and her leg. She was in so much shock, she didn’t realize what she had on her arm.”

Austin Madden lives next door and heard the explosion from inside his house. He ran outside, looked down the canal and saw what he described as a huge gas fire coming from the jet ski. He ran down to help, and also mentioned the woman with the hurt back.

“We didn’t want to move her or anything. She was moving her hands and legs, which is a good sign, but I guess they were checking her back out when the EMS arrived,” he said.

Rescue crews arrived and rushed the women to a local hospital. Kathleen Winston watched from her deck as neighbors tried to put out the flames.

“It was very difficult to get out,” Winston added. “The men and women brought hoses from their homes to try to put it down.”

Fire investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the jet ski to explode. Stay with WAVY on air and online for updates.

How terribly sad.

Before starting for the first time of the day and following refueling of a gasoline-powered vessel, stick your nose in the bilge and vent if equipped.

From a Ft Meyers, Fl diner......

Over 10? No Ketchup for You, Restaurant Says
The Florida eatery won’t serve up ketchup to anyone over the age of 10. Salt is also off the menu.

Patrons at a Florida resident who prefer their fries swimming in ketchup are in for shock.

The motto at the Mad Fresh Bistro in Fort Myers is “No Ketsup for You,” unless you happen to be 10 or under.

“We know, we know,” the eatery’s website explains. “People love their ketsup. But honestly, be ready. If you’re over 10 years old, ketsup will NOT be served.”

The eatery also says salt doesn’t make an appearance at its tables either. Instead, it asks diners to “trust the chef, and not have preconceived notions of what your dish is going to need.”

With salads, flatbreads and burgers on the menu, the Mad Fresh Bistro adds a gourmet touch to these dishes. The Parisian burger, for example, features bacon, brie, caramelized onions and a tarragon sauce. The fries aren’t ordinary either. They’re truffle fries with a tarragon aioli, according to the menu.

Chef owner Xavier Duclos explained his strict no-ketchup stand to WFLAby saying all his burgers come with sauce already.

“There’s no point in adding a sweet sauce on top of that,” he told the station.

The Mad Fresh Bistro is located at 12995 Cleveland Ave. in Fort Myers.

If you are at a high end restaurant... there should be no reason to ever need to add anything to a meal.

So... I kind of agree.

A California woman stripped naked and tried to slide down her ex-boyfriend's chimney — but wound up getting stuck for two hours before firefighters rescued her.

CBS Los Angeles reported that Tony Hernandez was alarmed at 5 a.m. on Saturday when the 35-year-old mother of his children, whose name has not been released, attempted to get inside his house.

When no one answered the front door, the woman decided to take off all of her clothes, climb onto the roof and slide down the 12-by-12-inch chimney.

Hernandez went up to the roof and tried to free her, but was unable to and called 911, according to CBS.

The Riverside County Fire Department showed up was able to free the woman after a two-hour operation that involved busting the fireplace open.

The woman was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Hernandez said the entire chimney will have to be rebuilt.

Military loses ammo box twice from chopper over Miami....

http://www.bradenton.com/2015/02/05/5621424/box-of-live-ammo-falls-from-military.html

MIAMI — A box of live ammunition accidentally fell from a U.S. military helicopter during a training exercise over populous South Florida.

Miami-Dade police said the U.S. Army located it without incident Thursday in the northwest part of the county. The box was lost Wednesday night over the same area.

Earlier this week, police announced military exercises were planned for Miami-Dade and Broward counties as part of training for operations in urban settings and to prepare for potential overseas deployment.

That announcement said there would be simulated gunfire and widespread use of helicopters. The locations were chosen to minimize any disruption on local residents.
